Damn, good for the kid to get Ovi’s stick. The kid was beaming with joy.

wow what a piece of history for that kid!

I collect game used sticks, I have Yzerman's first 60th goal stick and it (along with a Robert Lang stick which was the first I got) are by far my favorite pieces of memorabilia. It bothers me that hockey cards are worth more monetarily than these sorts of things (and yes I have/had some rare ones though I mostly sold when prices got crazy in the last couple of years).

would be another level to get an 800th goal stick

Mostly Wings players though I have a few of others (Lecavalier and Nash), think I'm gonna have to be on the hunt for an Ovechkin stick now though :)
Lecavalier and Nash - not too shabby.

Good luck with your hunt. Hopefully you land one.

Important to note all three goals in front of the net or banging away in the slot. Way too many people think he's just a left circle PP pony. Yes, that is an incredible strength since Adam Oates moved him there in 2013 but he won three Pearsons and two Harts not scoring that many left dot one-timers, and he's always been great in front of the net.

He has adapted very well to his new body that doesn't have the game breaking speed of his 20s.
he can slap, deke or gut it out physically - all at an all time elite level.

edit - ok, deking isnt alltime elite… but its still high

That's pretty awesome, Yzerman was one of my favorite players growing up

It's just insane to think that while highly unlikely, it really isn't just absolutely out of the question that he might score 1000 goals. Unreal. The probability and likelihood of that happening now feels like how it once felt to even suggest he had a shot at 894. No way. But here we are, so who knows?

When Gretzky was approaching his 802nd goal, Howe followed the Kings around for several games, in order to make sure he'd be there in person. By all accounts, Howe was magnanimous towards Gretzky after he tied and then surpassed him. If Howe were still alive, I'd like to imagine he'd also be cheering Ovechkin on.

I also hope that, if Ovechkin approaches #894 in two or three more years, Gretzky does what his idol did, and follows Ovechkin around in order to congratulate him in person right after the game.
itshard for me to even imagine Gretzky NOT being gracious.

In fact, I picture both of them being close to overly humble on that day.
