Coming over from Northeast Ohio to US Canada. I know weather has been quite interesting the past few days and heard of the possibility of the game being played inside. Has anyone heard anything in regards to this? I heard they will make an announcement tomorrow at noon but was curious if some heard any chatter about chances. Wondering how seats would work moving inside. Thanks for any updates you have heard. Thank you

If it's going to be blizzarding throughout the game the commentators will be having a circle-jerk about how nostalgic it is and how this is old-time hockey, but it's going to absolutely ruin the best game of the tournament. Hopefully they move the game inside if that's the case. Can't see it happening though.

I agree outdoor games are terrible. That's what those idiots would deserve with those ticket prices.

How could they move it in? How could they honour the tickets? Even if they had enough seats the ticket information wouldn't match with the seats at the KeyBank Center.

Would truly be poetic justice if they had to move the game back in. The horror of having to watch a game where the players aren’t battling the elements while the fans watch a far superior product. Outdoor games as regular season cash grabs, sure, whatever. A game at the World Juniors that will most likely determine first place in the pool? That’s a strong no guy.

lol true.

I won't lie though, I feel like that would actually be pretty awesome.

Forecast for Friday in Orchard Park says: 19° /12° - cold with snow at times, 1-2" .. nothing that should be a problem in WNY .. heavy snow with quick accumulations looks like this there:

expected 40-45,000 people are going to the game, how are they going to move it inside to 19,000 capacity Keybank Center? 0% chance it gets moved inside, if the weather is truly so bad that the conditions are absolutely unplayable, they would try and postpone the game I would imagine

it might actually be really great conditions... it's been colder than normal here the past few days and will stay well under freezing temps, the ice should hopefully be really well done.

Its supposed to be one of the warmer days of the week. They're calling for 5 cm of snow. That's extremely manageable and not even close to blizzard like conditions. Anyways, snow forecasts almost ALWAYS get pushed back or less snow falls than what was called for.

It's actually a pretty easy answer. The tickets are numbered in order of date purchased. Whatever capacity is at Key Bank Center, the first X number of purchasers get moved inside and everyone else gets their money back.

Meh, if whatever team that loses that game can't beat the 3rd place team in the weaker pool they probably don't deserve to medal anyway, even if that team may be lining up to be Russia. Winner will probably line up with Finland in the semis(If USA beats Finland afterwards) while the loser lines up with Sweden. Maybe if Sweden is the best team the loser would end up with Bronze instead of Silver if they were the 2nd best team, and the winner of that game may get Silver instead of Bronze as the 3rd best team but in reality if you're the best team and expect to win Gold you'll expect to beat whoever is in your way and the SF draws wouldn't likely be drastically different.

oh man that would be awesome if that happened. Outdoor game at a WJC is totally pathetic... a huge meaningful game and they are doing the outdoor thing?... absolutely ridiculous

Man some of you guys really hate outdoor games
Yeah, kinda surprised by the hate. I actually think this one is pretty cool. The same NHL teams playing outdoor games gets old and stale, but this one actually sounds exciting.

You would think it's the gold medal game the way some people are reacting.

The experience of an outdoor game is a cool thing. However, the games themselves become secondary, and are typically played out with all the feeling of an exhibition game. The concern is that the same thing will happen here and rob us of what is usually an epic tooth-and-nail duel to the death. However, considering how hard these two countries go at it, even in exhibition games, that fear is probably misplaced.

If they manage to f*** up the ice in these conditions, that's on them, so the only real doubt with merit for me is quickly accumulating snowfall during the game, but that doesn't look to be in the forecast either.

That's a fair argument, and if they were holding the gold medal game outdoors its an argument I could get behind. It would obviously have a huge effect on who wins the tournament. If the team that loses this game finishes 2nd in the pool and loses to the 3rd place team in the weaker pool(which now it turns out could be Russia, but it's a weaker Russia) then they didn't really deserve the medal anyway, and probably wouldn't have won that 1 v. 2 game indoors either. What will likely happen is the winner will likely beat the Swiss/Belarus and play Finland in the semis. The loser will probably beat probably Russia and play Sweden. And then it's a game that didn't really have much affect on the result at all. These 1 v. 2 games rarely matter since the switch to remove the byes. If the teams are actually good enough to deserve those spots they're likely to be in the medal round with similar competition anyway.

And its still a hockey game, even if there are elements there that aren't actually in a normal hockey game. If they hosted one of these outdoor games every year like they do in the NHL 3 or 4 times per year I'd be all for not having it. But for the first time ever they've had an outdoor game at the world juniors, in a game that likely won't have a major impact on what happens by the end of the tournament anyway. I'm totally ok with it. I think people maybe more annoyed they're gimmicking up a game that doesn't need gimmicking up that people look forward to every year which is a fair argument. It will certainly make the hockey worse. But if it wasn't for gimmicking up this game then Canada/USA would have been in different pools and we wouldn't have had this game anyway, as they switched the pools to make it possible.

This game really isn't all that meaningful though. Both teams are going to likely finish 1-2 in their pool. I think this is a great opportunity to get this tournament more visibility - there can be little doubt that each team will come to play with full intensity.

Should be tons of fun.

If that is true then this game is huge as Sweden looks like the only decent team in other pool so avoiding them in the semi's would be huge and Russia looks to be tanking the pool stage again so a good chance you have to face them in the QF's if you finish 2nd. Russia-Sweden-1st in the group looks a lot tougher than Switzerland-Czech/Finland-Winner of the mess on the other side.

I don't think avoiding Sweden in the semis is really all that critical, because you'd still probably have to play them or the other North America team in the gold medal game.
