I don't think avoiding Sweden in the semis is really all that critical, because you'd still probably have to play them or the other North America team in the gold medal game.

Yes but then you are at least assured of a medal and as we have seen recently (ie last year) anything can happen in a final no matter how much better the one team is over the other.

I hope this outdoor game does move inside. there's just no need to play this game in those conditions. plus I just hate outdoor games.

The experience of an outdoor game is a cool thing. However, the games themselves become secondary, and are typically played out with all the feeling of an exhibition game. The concern is that the same thing will happen here and rob us of what is usually an epic tooth-and-nail duel to the death. However, considering how hard these two countries go at it, even in exhibition games, that fear is probably misplaced.

This time it's going to be a cold thing, though.

If they manage to **** up the ice in these conditions, that's on them, so the only real doubt with merit for me is quickly accumulating snowfall during the game, but that doesn't look to be in the forecast either.

If it gets too cold then the ice is not good to play on either. It cracks too easily, someone could get hurt. The outdoor games on Parliament Hill were cancelled last night due to -27C temps for that reason.

Outdoor games for an event like the World Junior is nothing more than greed and stupidity. I will not watch it.

I dont like the idea of playing this game outdoors but if it attracts viewers and helps the tourney grow, I'm in.

I've been trying to help push this tourney for a long time. This year I've had a few people comment about the outdoor game and say theyre excited to watch.

0% chance this game moves indoors, not even a possibility. The weather isn't even going to be a problem with less than an inch of snow

Yeah, I don't get it. It's a group stage game. They'll both move on anyway. I went to the Sabres-Penguins Winter Classic and it was amazing.

What was more amazing -- the high ticket prices, or sitting a lot farther away from the ice so the players are tiny specks and you cannot see the puck?

I went to a couple outdoor games here at Comerica Park (an Ontario Hockey League doubleheader the year the Wings and Leafs played at Michigan Stadium), and now that it's off my bucket list I never want to go to another one.

Jesus everybody is complaining as if this is going to be the worst game ever. Looks like its going to be around -8 with a bit of snow...not bad conditions. Both teams will have to deal with the same stuff...and I've never really seen an outdoor NHL game where some random bounce or something to do with the conditions decided the game. Apparently the ice is in great shape at the stadium I don't see it being an issue. It will honestly be a fun game to watch on tv.

Guaranty players are looking forward to this Outdoor Game and the Weather's gonna be just fine.

Bring it! :fight:

I'm sure that the players are looking forward to the game.

There is nothing more fun on a cold winters night than playing shinny on crazy fast ice with a bunch of folks. Some nights so bright in the moonlight that you could continue to play after the lights were turned off.

It's a 3:00 pm game... :D

Joking aside, it's dark by 4:20, so ya, half the game will be in the dark.

I don't think they made 70K tickets available though. I thought that was closer to 50K, so probably more like 40,000+ sold right now.

Its absolute asinine how they planned this. If they had made tickets cheap (meaning like a range of 15-50) they could have sold out the whole arena.
I was thinking of driving down (taking a day off work) if I could get tickets for like $20.

Problem was when I had to make a decision whether to take the day off or not, they were closer to double that. Once you factor in gas money, time and the fact that its Christmas, it made almost no sense.

Most people who despise outdoor games have never been to an outdoor game (probably never been to an NHL game). The draw to an outdoor game isn't for the viewer at home but to the 40k people at the stadium cheering for their team.

Was at the Leaf outdoor game at BMO.

It was ok.

The sight lines sucked.

The crowd volume was lost in the "open air" environment.

It felt like a exhibition game...at best.

So a difference of 20 dollars is what made the decision for you?

Seems like a pretty small price to pay to see an event like this.

Sorry you hate them so much. Don't go then.

During the winter classic I could see everything as well as during an indoor game. There was a perfect amount of snow falling. The experience was unlike anything else I've ever been to. The crowd was really into the game. The Sabres lost in a shootout and I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
