I missed the game, but I sense a lot of disappointment and maybe panic on here. All that matters is that they can turn it on for the playoffs. No team goes all season without dips like the Jets seem to have now.

I agree. All teams go through dips and sometimes several dips throughout the season. However, some of us have had concerns about their play all season. At least comparing it to last year‘s team.
For myself, I feel that the point in the standings are not reflective of the level of play.
If there’s panic it’s because we don’t see it as just a dip, we see it as a year-long struggle to dominate and to be that team that we used to call “relentless.” At this point I would be very happy to see just a few games from that relentless team just to know that it’s still there.
Then maybe I would be a little more willing to believe that they can turn it on when the time is appropriate.

I am starting to get worried about this team a bit. I've been playing it off as a team who is just waiting for the real season to start, but the level of effort, compete and execution you need to win in the playoffs isn't some switch you can just turn on and it's there. This team better start getting the engine fired up now, there only about a quarter of the season left.

We need to get a sports psychologist to Patrik Laine quick. This guy is so inside his head it's not funny.

Tyler Myers was our best player last night. 4th line was decent, Tanev a beast as usual. Brossoit was good (we sure left him to hang out to dry).

Niku I thought played pretty well. He still has work to do in his own zone but I think he can get there. I really wish we still had Toby to mentor him (as I think the things that Enstrom did in his zone would be very helpful to Sami's game).

Maybe the TD, getting Buff and Nik back will reinvigorate this team. We need something.

Funny, I thought that used to be our MO. Seemed to do quite a bit of that last year.

If the players are really "taking it easy" before the playoffs, they can't wait too long before turning things up again, because you can't just expect to flip a switch two weeks prior to playoffs and expect to match up well against teams that have been fighting for their lives for a few months.
Actually you can ... the good players elevate their game to the next level in the playoffs ... those are the players you want. Also in the past I have noticed the majority of the teams who are fighting for a playoff spot or first place and achieve their goal tend to relax and lose in the first round. Remember the Ducks series?

There are 1/2 dozen guys he doesn't even try to coach. His words, not mine.

Obviously Wheels and Scheif are 2 of them.
Like, 2 of the best players in the world.

Oh yeah, those guys.

Wheeler and Scheifele have had their off days, but every player does. They continue to produce at an elite level. There are MANY other players we should be looking at right now.

I won't rag on Little cause he is quietly one of our most effective players but he was ass last night. Couldn't make a pass to save his life.

This team needs a mini camp.

I’m guessing people are reacting with their emotions and not being rational at all in here? Such a wise and mature fan base.
Singling out the Jets fan base as being different than ANY OTHER FAN BASE IN ANY SPORT.

Also wise.

They have struggled all season with teams that play an aggressive, forechecking game and pressure the puck intensely for 60 minutes.
Basically when the opposition team appears to be “trying really hard” the Jets can’t deal with it.
Pretty much sums it up" Their passive style of play is going to be the end of them..

The Jets used to be the team that was aggressive on the fore check making other teams earn their ice.
There is no urgency in their game right now and the lack of discipline with weak penalties is hurting them.

The way Montreal owned us recently is how we used to play last season.

We also need to stop giving up 40 plus shots a night by all five players on the ice committing to playing proper defense.

Every decision Little made with the puck seemed to be the wrong one or he was in between on what to do and wild send the puck to no one. Was a terrible game. It was amazing we got to OT with our top 2 centers playing so bad.

Just in case anyone doesn’t want to jump off a cliff...

Washington was a bottom 10 team in both corsi and expected goals last season. The team that wins the cup is the team that gets hot and gets good goaltending over a ~25 game stretch. The Jets are certainly capable of that.

Speaking of Montreal ... they had not won since playing their best game of the season against the Jets which proves it's very hard to keep up that intensity every game.

I don't think there is a team that doesn't struggle against a 60 minute, relentless, high pressure forecheck. Those games never look good by any standard.

I hate to say it but I agree about Myers. That is just scary.

I would like to pass this game off as an aberration caused by the crazy start. We had 6 min of PK time in the first 5 minutes. That has to throw off a game plan even if you score 2 shorties. But this **** has been going on for a long time now. I remember hoping that we would reboot over the Christmas break, then again over the ASB.

If we had that aggressive forecheck, we wouldn't be giving up so many shots.

We miss Yo-el.

They do if you are the team with the "relentless, high pressure forecheck".

I have zero confidence in this team come playoffs. A winning season shouldn't feel this #####y. Find myself more interested in watching the Raptors these days.

What's scary?

Erasing unpleasant memories. Monkeying around with what makes you = you. Who knows what might happen?

I like to think of myself as an empathetic and compassionate person. Erase my memories of pain and maybe I become a real prick.
there, the door is open.

Is there a thread for Perrault? That man has lost a step or is he injured? Tanev and Lowry both looked much better offensively than he did. Tanev with sweet dish to Myers, Lowry with sweet dish to Connor that he failed to capitalize on. Perrault also gets more opportunities with better players like when he was bumped up to 2nd line. Those were the worst shifts for that line they got stuck in their own end. He also did nothing noteworthy on powerplay.

He's always been streaky.
