So Ottawa beat Tampa 6-4 and lost to them in OT 3-4 so does not mean Tampa does not belong in first place or should they should fired the coach?
Dont confuse relative parity in the league - any team can beat any team on a given night - with a team that is winning in spite of their level of play.

The Jets have been outplayed for large stretches of games ALL season. They manage to turn it on for short periods of time and look fantastic and keep getting points but that is not how contenders win playoff series. If the coach cant figure out how to get this team to start at the opening faceoff and play a full 60 minutes they are in very real danger of getting bounced in the first round.

5 vs 5 they dont look good.

The PK is not good.

The PP is ice cold.

The captain and the best player stay on the ice too long and cheat on offense.

Our superstar goal scorer looks more and more like a fringe AHLer.

Team D is terrible. Bleeding high quality and high quantity shots against.

Some people have a short memory , Helly won a shit tonne of games last season , lots of games we had no business winning . For the first 2 months of this season the Jets won quite a few games in spite of Helly's play . Brossoit has definitely helped but if Helly gets back to last season's Vezina form we have as good a chance as any team to win a Cup.

That's funny, but not fitting at all when talking about Tanev. He's been great this season.
not denying he's been a surprise. last playoffs were also a surprise.
but that was in reference to a "jest" post declaring that he should be the C and paid a ridiculous contract.
Tanev's good at what he does and stays in his lane. anything else said about him is overstated.

I do think that the Jets are holding back a bit, a disinterest in the regular season.

Last game I mentioned that they don't match the intensity of emotion of other teams. Wheeler said the same thing, that Colorado was desperate and the Jets didn't match.

Part of being a contender is learning that you have to do it all over again every season. No picking up where you feel off. That's a hard lesson. I fully believe the Jets are capable of beating any team, but I also feel they are going to be vulnerable to desperate, emotional teams in the first round.

I don't want to rag on the leaders or the coach, but that's my observation.

I'm deciding to believe that our top players are playing below their level because none of them want to play well enough to entice being traded at deadline, and once the deadline passes they will be revived and Laine will score 10 goals in the first game.

It's supposed to make me feel better that Nashville has also sucked? It doesn't .

The Jets haven't been much fun to watch for awhile now. They are in a pretty big funk and not playing any kind of discernable game. Really disjointed, lacking discipline and commitment. I hope they turn it around but they're a downer right now.

Despite the record this team has t been much fun to watch. I was threat night and it was a real bore.

I agree with a few posters that we are looking like a first round knockout the way we playing.

I missed the game, but I sense a lot of disappointment and maybe panic on here. All that matters is that they can turn it on for the playoffs. No team goes all season without dips like the Jets seem to have now.

55 and 26 are our leaders and their d effort most nights is non existent. Listen to Maurices Post game.. Hes calling out 81 55 26 and others.. Team D.. Moving your legs.. Etc etc.
55 and 26 move their legs when they have the puck. But after 30 seconds into shifts they play like beer leaguers without the puck.

Niku does alot of things well, but he is certainly not good without the puck. You don't see him lose many puck battles because he doesn't engage in them, even purposely steers clear. He has much work to do yet, but I do enjoy his game.

Spikes vs trends I would say. The Jets have been outplayed by non-playoff teams with alarming regularity over the last month. Not just bad puck-luck, but being outworked for consecutive periods over several games. Tampa has blips on the radar; we have a giant elephanr in the room: the team is bad 5v5.

Bad 5v5?
Gave up 3 PP goals last night. So bad on PK.
Haven't scored a PP goal in, what, 18 chances now? So bad on PP.

Don't know why you single out 5v5.

I don't know if the PK was crap , we did score 2 shorthanded goals and killing off 2 double minors would be tough even for the #1 PK team in the league . Now the PP on the other hand just sucked last night and has struggled now for a while .

Sometimes it's not about the actual loss on the scoreboard/standings, but rather how you lose them. I don't watch the Nashville games so I can't tell how they are losing their games. I do watch every Jets game though and it's my opinion that they are playing at a very poor level right now, actual scores notwithstanding. A level not indicative of a league favorite/champion. Excuse.me.

There have been only a few games this year where I have really liked this team.

It has been most evident since we lost Ehlers.

True.

So the one good area has been the PK. Guess we need to take more penalties.
Does the situation, playing a man short bring on the sense of urgency that seems to be what they are missing?

They have struggled all season with teams that play an aggressive, forechecking game and pressure the puck intensely for 60 minutes.
Basically when the opposition team appears to be “trying really hard” the Jets can’t deal with it.

Funny, I thought that used to be our MO. Seemed to do quite a bit of that last year.

If the players are really "taking it easy" before the playoffs, they can't wait too long before turning things up again, because you can't just expect to flip a switch two weeks prior to playoffs and expect to match up well against teams that have been fighting for their lives for a few months.

Teams that have been fighting for their playoff lives for a few months tend to be burnt out by playoff time.
