They're probably giving Babcock good money as well, he's always been one of the 2 or 3 highest paid coach. The Jackets are definitely looking to rebound.

Columbus decided their defense wouldn't suck this year and they didn't even bother waiting until the Stanley Cup final was done to pull the trigger.

... Severson would be/is/was horribly miscast on a first pairing. Though if he plays around 20-21 minutes a night on a second pairing, he could be worth it.

Why did he leave the Coyotes?

I'll ask him and let you know after I get off the phone with him. :sarcasm:

This is a promotion for him. In Arizona, he was the the "Chief Development Officer" where now he will be something like an Assistant GM. He also has a connection with Treliving because Brad used to work with the Coyotes before he became GM in Calgary.

Yea. Werenski should be back and healthy. Add Provorov and now Severson. They also have Boqvist (who was on a 40+ point pace this past year).

They could go with Werenski - Severson & Provorov - Boqvist as a top-4 in the back end.
So they will either have a good defense or it will be a spectacular fail.

I believe he left or was let go from Arizona a year ago. I was surprised at that. I thought he would be there for life. After all he stayed with that mediocre franchise his whole career instead of going to a contender AND they drafted his son.

I don't think he was let go a year ago. He's still listed on Arizona's hockey ops page. I just think Arizona gave permission to Toronto to speak with him and they ended up hiring him.

In fact, here is owner Meruelo and Doan making statements. If he was let go a year ago, they wouldn't be making these statements today:

Messi is probably the most iconic athlete of all-time. Millions of people literally adore him, in the religious sense. If you were dropped in a remote village in some desert you'd be almost guaranteed to see a kid with an Argentina Messi shirt just running around. I had a latino 8yo today in a class where i was substitute and he has a tourette kind of habit of saying messimessimessimessi. I see countless PSG shirts in elementary and secondary school, the most common by far with the Albiceleste.

Messi doesn't have a clothing line and shoes that are known and worn worldwide. He's the most known present player, but he's not the most iconic. People have been wearing Air Jordans worldwide for more than 30 years. Go in Asian countries and you'll see kids with Bulls shirts instead of Messi. Messi's fame is the result of soccer's worldwide notoriety, whereas Basketball's fame and growth were the result of Jordan's notoriety. MJ is still the most iconic athlete worldwide.
