Needs a goal/game over his next 200 games to match the greatest goal scorer ever...

Yes, different eras. No, Gretzky didn't have the best shot of his Era... goal scoring is about more than the shot...

Ovie is one of the best. "The" best remains far out of reach imo
I said top 2 though, it's nigh impossible for any human being in our current lifetime to beat Gretzky's records. I believe he will reach 2nd; which is no small feat.

He’s the best goal scorer. His goals per game is above Gretzky’s, and era does count, sorry. Goalies didn’t even go down to stop shots in the 80s and had pads half the size.

He’s beating that record. 163 goals needed. That’s just 4 seasons of 40 goals which is doable for him. He’s 36 and he’ll likely just play until he beats it anyways.

I don’t understand how it’s impossible? Ovie scores 40-50 goals a season and he’s 36 years old. That record is going to be broken unless something really unforeseen happens.

That's what I was thinking. Ovechkin will play into his 40s in order to beat the goal scoring record. I think that's his only motivation to keep playing.

I find 8mill is an overpayment for the type of player Tkatchuk is, unless he develops some new aspect to his game this year which I don’t foresee
I know he’s much much younger and there’s potential for significant growth, but will be interesting to watch Anderson’s performance over his present contract compared to BTs.

Yeah exactly what I was thinking, people screamed overpayment for Anderson but they’re very similar players. Albeit, Tkachuk is younger with untapped potential but still.

I don’t think they are similar at all. Tkachuk is more well rounded offensively with better playmaking. A lot of his points are in the dirty areas. Anderson gets his points off the rush.

Still an overpayment though.

For sure it is. But you don't evaluate player X's contract based on player Y's contract evaluation or else all goalies contract would be awesome in comparison of Price. You evaluate a player's contract based on what he can bring to the team and what % of the cap you invested in him. Suzuki's contract is fair and Tkachuk' contract changes nothing to this evaluation.

People overvalue Anderson like crazy. I like the player and yeah off the rush he looks like a copy of Rick Nash at time. But he's a one trick pony.

These young players aren't worth these contract amounts.

I’d rather have a young player locked up through the prime of his career than a UFA locked up into their mid-thirties. Most of the vets in their late twenties who get long term deals aren’t worth the contract amounts.

After seeing these contracts, everyone needs to apologize to Dubas on how he handled Nylander. Guys like Suzuki and Tkachuk are getting more ins flat cap setting? Nylander contract looking better and better each year.

How so? Anderson is paid to be a 20-25G player who brings top end speed with big body physicality... that’s more than “one trick”

No Ovie is the best as of right now. Shorten seasons and a lockout has probably robbed him of ~70-80 goals. Scoring 90+ goals in today's NHL is impossible. Gretzky played in a setting were goals per game was about one goal higher than it is now. The fact that Ovie even has an outside chance of catching Gretzky is insane. Best goal scorer the game has ever seen.
