What did he do that suggested his attitude was poor? Are you referring to the claim that he should have been drafted first overall or the glare in the Habs direction at the draft?
They passed on him for reasons that had little to do with his on ice performance.

The glare and the underwhelming post draft play are but additional data points that suggest the flags were well placed

He's just a kid and not all of them say or do the right things at 18 years old, they aren't machines.
Indeed. But there are certainly traits that point to better or worse odds of success as a pro. Not an exact science, and no team in any pro sport gets it right all the time... But some organizations are better than others at identifying, recognizing and prioritizing traits that are favorable to pro level success (including market specific variables)

Nick Suzuki played on the lower lines for us as a young player and look at him now.
?
Not sure I get the point.

Suzuki wasn't a top-of-class prospect, and both the knights & Habs saw that IF he was to succeed as a pro, it would take time.

Wright may well become a top line C, but to do so he's got a long way to go and he'll need to take a page from Suzuki's book when it comes to dedication to the craft... Questions about his commitment off-ice is a big part of why Wright fell the way he did. Wasn't just the Habs that looked past his junior on ice performance level and decided he wasn't worth investing a top pick on. Nothing he's shown thus far suggests they were wrong (though Nemec is certainly making the devils sweat)

That is wild. I didn't expect much from Pittsburgh but I certainly didn't think they would be a serious basement challenger either.

I'd hate to see crosby's final years wasting like that. It's almost as if things are coming full circle as the Pens were god awful in his rookie season too.
Crosby will be McKenna's Mario Lemieux.

They also develop well, rarely rushing young players.
60 games for Robertson 47 for Stankoven did Wyatt Johnston play any?
These players were fairly well developed coming in. Beck is on a similar trajectory development wise.
Xhekaj it's hard to tell if his skating is still holding him back because not much else is IMO.

It's kind of lining up that way isn't it. In the summer they could move Karlsson, Geno and whoever, go full trash mode and compete with San Jose and Chicago next year for McKenna
I think if they have a Crosby-level player on the team, they're unlikely to completely bottom out. Instead, they'll win a super sketchy draft lottery lol.

The Lindgren extension makes me wonder; in the last decade, how many "dump vet goalies to make room for young guy" actually worked out?

Pens would have been better off keeping Fleury for example. Sens dumped Bishop for Lehner. Sabres let Ullmark walk for Luukkonen/Levi presumably taking over the reigns in the near future. Obviously we let Lindgren go to make room for Primeau.

I can't think of any off the top of my head that actually worked out since Price over Halak.

I thought he'd be a good vet for the rebuild but I guess he just wanted money for what he did in the past. He's probably still a HOFer but he definitely hurt his case by leaving Kucherov's PP side.

Also Trotz is just ridiculous. I typed very loudly that Nashville's hot streak wasn't a real team or sustainable and was told you can't fake playoff appearances. Going in even deeper on a core of 35+ year olds was insane and aged like milk.

Who could have possibly predicted Nyquist, Josi, O'Reilly, Stamkos, Marchessault, and Schenn would all fall off at 33-35 years old? Oh, everyone with a brain. And the cherry is the one vet who aged like wine in McDonagh got sent packing and they let Lankinen walk for free, only to trade Askarov. Then they lost Fabbro and Tolvanen on waivers. And turned the mini-McDonagh in Carrier into Justin Barron. Now their roster is completely devoid of young talent and they have (almost) nothing in the system and a bunch of long contracts they just committed to. Hilariously bad management.

I think it shakes down to tactician vs. strategist. Typically leader types are either great at tactics or great at strategy but you rarely see someone who can do both. I would guess Trotz long career as a coach wired him to think tactically, and the evidence would suggest so too, because the moves don't seem to string together in any way that suggest a overarching vision/strategy for building a team.

Is it true that the Bell Centre is built on some sort of ancient burial grounds? I'm being serious and unsure at the same time. I think I read that here at one point, not really sure.

EDIT: I'd throw down a "like", amigo, but well...not in the cards for a few weeks... :biglaugh:
