HF Habs: Out Of Town Thread: 2026 Play-off edition

Yup. I hate how several US-born star players are trying to form 'super teams' in attractive US destinations after years of these same franchises being kept alive by revenue made by Canadian teams.
Canada's fault for not protecting their rights.
It's the same story in every Industry or business you care to look at.
"We don't need anything from Canada" No fn kidding you've taken it all already.

I have to wonder how the Tkachuks are going to fit in in the Panthers dressing room. There's only 3 Americans on that team. The Tkachuk's & Jones. Everyone else is either European or Canadian. With their podcast, and other shit, they're doing, I just wonder how that's going to go over.

Favoritism & unaccountability generally doesn't go over well with hockey teams.

Steve Staos acted like a complete p***y in the Tkachuk trade. First they say that in his No Movement that Tkachuk had 4 teams he was willing to go to. But they only could trade him to Florida? WTF is that. If that was his stance, then I would have let him rot unless I get more options. Staos essentially surrendered.
Sens media doing damage control but it was a really pathetic move from Staois. He let fear of his pride getting hurt get in the way.

It pisses me off so much cause Tkachuk literally got what he wanted like a spoiled brat. Zero balls from Staois. And I'm not a Sens fan but they get nothing in return, no roster players. It's hard enough to be a Canadian franchise, we should at least get competent management. And really only the Habs have had that in recent years. But this was so brutal by the Sens. Wow.

It means Brady told him four teams he'd be interested in going to but when a deal with (I think Minnesota) got formulated, Brady declined to waive his NMC and said nah just Florida.

He got 3 1st rounders and a 2nd for him. This "let him rot" stuff is silly. So he rots plays like crap then walks for nothing. You sure won.

He had two years left on his deal. If he plays like crap he only sabotages himself and his family reputation.

The return they got for him was shite.

If Ottawa wanted to get the best return for Tkachuk they should have traded him before his NMC kicked in last season. After that Tkachuk held all the cards with his full NMC. So either the Senators held onto him now hoping his value went up (it probably doesn’t) with the risk being the Marner situation where he refused to get traded and had to get what they could for him or they trade him now for whatever they could get (being 3 1sts (including a top 10 pick and a 2nd).

Oh no then he signs to Florida even cheaper. Like is anyone even thinking this through? He sabotages his family reputation? His dad just got in the Hall. Matt will follow him. What would Brady care?

Too many of you have this silly fantasy of a player just sitting for years to prove a point when the best thing is always to rip the band aid off as soon as possible and move on. The damage was done the moment Ottawa ignored all the signs of him being a giant suck who by his own teammates admission can't take a chirp.

They are not in this position because Brady forced it on them. They are in this position for investing in a terrible leader and giant suck of a baby.

I mean Tkachuk kept saying he didn't want to be traded and that the constant rumours were a distraction for him & the team.

The attitude definitely changed after the Olympic Gold win.

Florida be back with a vengeance.
FLA - Back and rested, rejuvenated likely
TB - Fading but still dangerous
BUF - Expect them to be strong but tbf they need to string two good years together before we start to think of them differently
BOS - Always solid. Won't be an easy opponent but I don't know why they would be better than last year
TOR - They'll likely start hot but the jury is out as usual. So hard to trust anything with them
OTT - TBD but unless they add now using their assets, I can't see them being competitive after losing BT
DET - Forever Bubble Team but let's see what the price for Larkin is
MTL - Packed with talent but missing pieces

It's going to be clearer in a month or so when some deals are made, but I think the division will be as hard as last year, but we don't know who will be the ones at the top like MTL/TB/BUF were at the end of last season.

My guess is we are near the top along with FLA, TOR, BUF while BOS, DET, and Maybe OTT in the next rung. TB might finally crash out this coming season, but we'll see. I kind of expect them to lean into tanking if they fall behind.

I think Winnipeg with Chevy is very a competent front office. Chevy is definitely top 10 gm in the league if not higher
