Can't really blame skinner when sans Mcdavid the oilers would pick higher than us in the draft. He was injured to start the year and they were bottom three.

The West is weak enough that a team that wouldn't make the playoffs in the east can be in the finals. It's weak enough that we won the West a few years ago.

Florida will not be beat. To come to the final last year and lose; their hunger must be enormous.
Well I'm sorry but they would have been beat yesterday. I don't understand why you guys are so impressed by the Panthers. They were dominated most of the game, gave up 2 or 3 breakaways in the first (we are in SCF ffs) plus gve up an incredible giveaway right at the start. Bob won the battle of the goalies yesterday by quite a margin and that was the story. If Panthers do not adjust, next game has a good chance to get a different result.

If anything, the Oilers know they can play w Fla vs all the prognostications

The road team just needs a split to grab home ice advantage

Sam Bennett is a helluva player.

Swiss Army knife.....can do it all. Great teams always have these types of guys

Bennett is a bonafide playoff warrior. Guy really found his game in Florida.

How Calgary can trade guys like Bennett and Tkatchuck ???? No wonder their ship is sinking year after year.

These types of posts should be stickied to every prospect & young player thread...

Posters around here are just as quick to write off players that, like Bennett, has uneven progression through their early 20's.

D8 before he got traded to a team where he found his groove. We've got plenty of posters writing off players like Mesar or Barron far sooner than that.

Patience and context are not readily accessible to some.

I wish we had traded for Bennett. I followed him a lot in Calgary and he was clearly a player being misused and ripe for a big leap in impact once he got a legit shot... Panthers pounced and it has paid off massively. Perfect buy-low move.

No choice on Tkachuk.
Self imposed...

They, like BargainBin, didn't want to commit early and show their long term commitment to the player, landing instead on a totally failed 3-year bridge.

By year 3 of that deal, he hit 100pts, has all the leverage despite 1 more year of RFA, and forced his way out. Had the flames made the long term commitment right after his ELC expired (like the sens did with Brady), he'd have signed.

Treliving guffed that one pretty bad by not believing in the player enough to go all in, Tkachuk took it personally and unlike PK, didn't love the city enough to sign long term after the bridge.

Meanwhile everyone is tripping over themselves to cheer for Edmonton because they are the 'Canadian' team...
Well at least it's a team mostly made of Canadian players i mean not sure how cheering for Edmonton equate to chanting USA while your team has only 2 Americans in the linenup (one of them being a useless player). Don't recall the Expos fans chanting "Canada, Canada, Canada" it would not have made any sense. But it's Florida i mean it would be foolish to expect better.

These same sources stressed that both the Capitals and CapFriendly wanted the site to be publicly available and independently operated through the 2024 NHL Draft and the start of free agency, so it is not expected the sale will be official until at least July 5.

You can definitely see why a team would want this infrastructure. After the transaction officially closes, the website will go dark.

Too bad, big loss for the community.

Surprised to hear that an NHL team doesn't have a better version of this internally though.

Both quotes in bold join together to make a great sentence. If Bennett stayed in Calgary he might never have realized his potential and Calgary fans would only make assessments based on what they saw from him while he played for them.

Barron might go elsewhere and play in a situation that helps him flourish and it has nothing to do with fans posting on a message board but rather a fault of the Habs for not realizing what he could have been.

Indeed.

Though for Barron, I doubt the Habs assessment of the player is as dissilusional as the general narrative about him here is...

He's doing quite well for a young dman thus far. Easily top 10 defenseman from the combined draft classes of his & the draft before his ('19 & '20). Unlike Bennett, he hasn't been misused imo, it just takes more time, on average, for dmen to establish themselves as everyday/reliable NHL regulars.

Ultimately, all orgs make mistakes. It’s the lot of drafting unfinished products at mostly only 18 years old and how development is not linear and can be protracted.
