Kakko is a worse gamble as he is older. Dach was only 21 i mean he was a gamble like any prospects but he was not labelled a bust yet and not even close. Newhook was a bit closer to bust status but still one year younger than Kakko is atm. Kakko is almost 24 he's getting close to Chad Kilger status the price would need to be lower than NYR wound want.

And this is precisely what the usual suspects will ignore when Kakko gets moved for less than Newhook or Dach and they proceed to hold that up as proof of the Habs "mistake" or "bad judgement"

Context is a bridge too far for most hot takes.

I hope we take a flyer on Kakko. Change of scenery might help the guy unlock some of that offense upside, but if not, he's trending to be a very reliable depth forward and would be a good replacement for Armia

Probably because nobody is advocating to give up 13th OA+mid round picks, or a 1st and very early 2nd for him.

Don’t think anyone would complain about Kakko if he could be had for cheap unlike Newhook and Dach.

Dach was a costly acquisition.

Newhook ? We traded something equivalent to Mesar / Kulich in term of draft capital and we got a middle 6 C/W.

For the record, I am not saying the habs should not kick tires on Kakko.

What I’m saying is that he will require the very patience most are no longer willing to give to Dach and Newhook.

I always laugh when I hear folks ragging on Dach, Newhook, but then are starry eyed on Kakko. He's having the same consistency issues and is the exact same type of gamble you aren't patient for with the players the habs have.
I would trade Newhook for Kakko immediatly if the trade was on table. I don't see newhook better offensively than kakko, and I think Kakko can become more complete player than Newhook. Physically and defensively

Interesting... Not sure if so that.

Newhook seems to have a higher offensive production ceiling this year's struggles notwithstanding (don't forget Kakko has played on a cup contending caliber roster surrounded by elite talent vs the Habs league basement roster Newhook has played with), and is signed 2 more years at 2.9M, then is an RFA with a relatively low QA.

Kakko's current deal is up this summer, and with the massive cap increase, will likely be getting a raise.

All things considered, even though I'd agree Kakko has a higher floor, I don't think I'd do that 1:1 at this point
