Curiously, I don't think our offense if that bad. Our top 6 gonna be Laine, Suzuki, Caufield, Demidov, Slaf down the road and I think those 5 are sure lock

Our defensive needs to be better. I mean, Matheson is a 3rd:4rd dman on a contender. Same for Guhle. Hutson is maybe a first pairing dman but will need to be pairing with a stud defensively to keep a positive ratio. There is Reinbacher still young.
And Montembault is a 2nd goalie.

Hugues will need to adress our goalie situation and Defensive.
Hughes is proving to be as inexperianced as his coaching staff, were now regressing just about at every level :thumbu: boring bipolar hockey is pretty much what we can expect for the rest of the year, Again, glad i am not a season sucker/ticket holder.

Hutson is not a first pairing d-man. Jeeze, how many times do I have to hear this crap?
Bot right now, This is his first year. Tough to say what we should expect from him in the future. However, if he is able to get 50 pts and to keep a positive ratio, playing 25/26 minutes. This is first pairing material.

I think it would depend solely on who he'd be partnered with. Personally, I like how he's being utilized now, which is maximizing his strengths (offensive zone and power play).

The big question with Hutson is how he will do in the playoffs. He has overcome every obstacle so far, and he is playing well, but in a seven game series other teams may be able to wear him down and he is not going wear down other players.

Most of Hughes' acquisitions have a visible point, a nice contrast to some recent GMs who seemed to view trades in terms of value in and value out. It doesn't matter if you win all your trades if you only ever trade for scoring left wingers and you end up with twelve of them. Taking Slaf was pretty clearly aimed at getting some size in the forward group, Wright, Caufield Suzuki, and Gallagher, plus possibly Mesar and Roy, makes a pretty small group. Dach was a stab at a big second line center for the same reason. Newhook is less clear, but they are short on speed, so that could be it.

It's not so much that the habs can't succeed with Caufield and Hutson playing regularly, it is that they will have to balance them with others who are more physical and who can occupy more than one opposing player to counterbalance the opposition being able to push Montreal's little guys around. The rest of the team will always have to play a little harder on D to compensate.

They will need Guhle to put on some muscle and play more physically and Xhekaj to impose himself with hits more than fists. They already need to get some more righties, and they are going to need more big defensive specialists and fewer offensive guys. Quite the change from when they had mostly big guys on D who didn't handle the puck really well just a few years back. They are so lacking in defensive D that they can't afford to sit Savard. That's a major weakness.

I agree with all you said. Talking avout Hutson, I would like tonsee him pairing with a stud defensively. A kind of Eric Cernak or Brandon Carlo. Like Savard back in the days... he is too old anymore.

Does Vincent still look as good now that Laval lost seven of their last ten? I’m not sure there would be a benefit to bringing in a win now coach this year or next. By 2026 they should at least have most spots filled and be in a position to fill holes and try to make the playoffs.

A more competitive coach would probably get more from the vets, but would that help longer term? In the short term the team would still suck, just not enough to get a high pick.
He would help MSL in the structure and X and O

And yet Buffalo is also regressing despite bringing in a coach with 27 years of NHL head coaching experience. Maybe experience isn't all that it's cracked up to be.

It happens but having an entire rookie nhl coaching staff run a rebuild has never been done in the NHL, Again, how exactley do you build a coach and develop players and a team at the same time ? sorry but i’d rather take my chances with SOME NHL coaching experience behind the bench, Christ!! haven’t the fans suffered through enough mediocrity for the past thirty+ years.Molson doesn’t give a rats ass, the teams value has skyrocketed .

And wasn't done with us either. When MSL took over we had Richardson who was coaching since 2009-2010, Burrows since 2018-2019, and Letowski since 2010-2011. This is CHL/AHL/NHL timelines.

Richardson was gone before the paint was even dry on the overhaul,Letowski had no nhl coaching experience before Montreal . Burrows should’ve went with Ducharme. This was Marty’s show since the beginning.

Which isn't the same same thing as saying we went with an all rookie coaching staff. You can be unhappy with the coaching staff without resorting to lying/exaggerating.

Nick Suzuki is the only plus player on the team
You mean that dude with the hardest match ups.
He's making very smart line changes this season without cheating.
I jokingly referred to David Desharnais' penchant for getting off the ice a few games ago but Nick definitely does it properly.
