Hard to believe could fall so far so fast. A year and half ago Bruins had one of best seasons ever in NHL.
They also had a HOF C who won the Selke in his last year in the NHL and a 2C who was a key Bruins - both of whom they’ve not been able to replace

They overachieved last season and unrealistic expectations set in..

When they say "relieved him of his duties as head coach" it almost sounds like they did him a favor. Coaches come and go but at least they are paid much more money than they used to be.

The bottom line in Boston is that they are a team headed for a rebuild. Sure they might get a boost from a new coach but overall, they are on the way down. One cup to show for all of those years near the top of the league.

Because Neely is seen as Bruins royalty and his buddy Sweeney is riding shotgun.

The truth is that Montgomery made the Bruins overachieve last year and they have simply come back to earth. I feel for him getting thrown under the bus before December.
He is a great coach and will get hired soon

Wow lol
Shocked for Jim
But not surprised Cam Neely impulse fires people
Oh well

Especially after Neely/Sweeney made such a mess of their goalie situation, turning their biggest strength into a hot mess.

Gotta love it. With their ugly cap situation and bottom 5 prospect group, Bs seem ripe for a long and ugly run to the bottom.

Only thing better would be if they hire Michou to put the final nail in the coffin lol

It would be hilarious if Sullivan is fired from Pittsburgh and returns to Boston. The Broons would become the Bergevin era Habs.

I wonder what the odds were going into the season that Montgomery was going to be the first coach fired.

Pretty shocking, and probably not very justifiable other than that it an easy thing to do in order to shake up the team.

This is why coaches sign don't sign 1 or 2 year deals.

If memory serves when the Bruins choked against the cats there were whispering winds of shit that he might be let go.

Some in the offseason, too.

So, for me not entirely surprising

That would have been a dumb move. They had a historic regular season and went into the playoffs banged up with a couple core guys on their last legs.

I think bruins held up pretty well under him, but they have been testing father time for a long while now and eventually, father time is going to win.

Ottawa has to forfeit a first round pick. Either this coming draft or the next one. Feel bad for them.

Actually no I don’t, f*** the Sens. Imagine having to forfeit a lottery pick :snide:
I hope they decide to forfeit in 2026 and that pick jumps to #1 and become Gavin McKenna.:devdance:

I don’t expect Neely & Sweeney will get the opportunity to execute a rebuild - it’ll be another management team
