Holy shit is Bouchard completely clueless on the defensive side of the puck. He's laughably bad. Whole Oilers defensive play is trash. I thought Montreal is bad, but Oilers are on a whole nother level right now.
Hard to believe he's same guy as playoffs

The fact their issues have remained the same and clearly evident for years and nothing has changed is ridiculous to me. They need new leadership in management. I think the threat of McDavid walking will make it happen.
One of the big problem is actually McDavid. The Oilers management (and owners) have focused on trying to please him via what they perceive that he wants for years over just focusing on building a balanced team.

McDavid isnt the problem as all these Oiler issues predate him and have just continued on since him and Drai got there. They just masked the issues more than guys like Hall could

They hired the worst possible GMs. Either ones that just had ties to Edmonton or a guy like Holland who Detroit put out to pasture.

Currently, all you have to look at is Nurse and Campbell which were pure lunacy. Hell they are still paying James Neal

Holland did one actually trade in his tenure to make the Oilers good now and in the future and he only did that at the deadline last year.

Guy isn't going to make a panic trade because it takes him forever to realize he needs to make trades to improve the team as they can't draft.

Guy probably thinks there's still a chance Klefbom can come back healthy.

Hiring McDavid (ex-)agent as CEO of hockey operation, signing one of his buddy on the team and hiring his ex-junior coach a few days ago don't predate the Oilers drafting McDavid...

Holland has only been the Oilers GM for 4.5 years.

Those events dont have the Oiler where they are

The 15 million in burnt cap space has them where they are

Every thing is stemming from piss poor ownership leadership from the top and its been that way since the string of first overalls that failed at every turn

Oilers MO is to hire McDavid entourage so he dosen't leave. Building a strong team would help them more but that ship has sailed.

Meanwhile they milk their fans with overpriced tickets and food like 2 soda and 2 pop corn bags for $40.

That can't be real? Photoshopped right? I mean $36.50 for popcorn and sugar water? That must be the best popcorn in the history of popped kernels.

I wondered how long it would take before people would start saying McDavid is the problem in EDM.
I've been saying it for years, so your "how long" is negative. The Oilers management have only one goal: make sure McDavid never leave. Everything else is very secondary.

Why they turned to nepotism instead of icing a good team the last 2 years probably has some interesting stories behind it too...

So, following what you're saying, the problem is not McDavid but the management team that keeps making the wrong decisions.

They put McDavid over the team success in their decision making.

Is that on ownership or is it ultimately a function of the better executives having no appetite to relocate to Edmonton? Beggars can’t be choosers. The same way most players probably have Edmonton on their no-trade list.

Because if McDavid bail out the Oilers go straight back to be the team that draft first overall 4 years out of 5, except they can't do that anymore because the draft rules changed because of them.

The goal SHOULD be to keep McDavid forever, no issue here. The way the Oilers decided to make it happen is just terrible tho, the only thing they had to do was to build a decent support cast to surround him, Rutherford did it with the Pens but that seems too much for Chia/Holland so they hire his agent/coach/mom/whatever in hope to appease him.

I'm pretty sure the reasons is actually revenues and not draft rankings...

They are a business, the aim will always be to generate money.

Keeping McDavid happy isn't the wrong goal here, in fact it's in their best interest to do so, both hockey wise and money wise. The problem is the methods they used in hope to achieve that goal are just awful (and probably futile).

He has 4 points in 5 games in the last ten days ? 3 of those at ES, before we try to discredit on stupid basis.
In the month of November so far:

Cooley: 2 goals, 6 points in 10 games. 2 points at ES
Slaf: 2 goals, 4 points in 9 games. 3 points at ES

the anal accountant in me can't stop comparing combo 2 at $22 to Combo 5 at $55. combo 5 is essentially 2 no 2 combos plus 2 bags of chips. $11 for the 2 bags of chips.

I guess I flipped that no 2 is 2 no 5's plus chips

Yes, and? Why is it his fault? The guy purposely took less money on his deal so that the team would have more wiggle room to help build a contender, you think he's telling them to hire his buddies at all cost? Think.

Is that on ownership or is it ultimately a function of the better executives having no appetite to relocate to Edmonton? Beggars can’t be choosers. The same way most players probably have Edmonton on their no-trade list.
There's 32 jobs like this in the world. Qualified people are interested AND available.

And ? Is that supposed to make us feel better ?
Just providing more context to your defense of Cooley.

Btw, I made mistake, Cooley has 6 in his last 10, Slaf has 4 in his last 9. Slaf has more ES points.

Cooley has 4 in his last 5. Slaf 3 in his last 5.

If Cooley is performing well recently, so is Slaf.

If Slaf's production is a disappointing, then so is Cooley's.

:)

Cooley is performing good for a rookie, Slaf is performing okay for a sophomore player.
