I hear the Oilers might be looking this off-season if this keeps up ;)

Heh, I actually thought about that. With the cap going up around 4 million (at least that's expected) and if they send Jack Campbell back they could take Bob. Campbell has one extra year on his deal but would free up five million in cap space. He seems like a small market player and would probably be solid in a veteran, back-up role (like he was before).

Only thing is getting Bob to waive. Good luck with that lol.

Sure you can. NTC opens up, his actual salary drops to around $5.5 mil on average the last 2 years.

Retain $4 mil and some bubble team will take him for a prospect/mid round pick.
Zito can also pay a 3rd team to retain ($500k-1 mil) as well.

I'm not sure you can move him that cheap even if you retain half. Moving a player with a cap hit of five million with one year left has generally cost a 1st round pick and Bob has two years left on his deal. I don't think the actual dollars matter for most teams. Maybe for a budget team to reach the cap floor? Either way Bob can pretty much block any realistic destination if he wants with his NTC (16 teams).

Don't think he's viewed as a cap dump at $5 mil but we shall see.
Ya for sure, he can block some of the teams that have cap space and need for a 50 ish game 1A goalie but Bob knew Knight was always the long term solution.

If not Bob moved, it's likely Ekblad as I don't see Mikkola, ERod or Luostarinen getting dealt who each would free up $3 mil.

Zito likely operates on 4-5 hrs of sleep a night

If Bob keeps playing like he has, and he goes on another heater in the playoffs ?

Don’t think Zito will have a problem finding that dance partner IMO.

Then it’s easy !

I’ve always thought we could get Forsling and Montour at 6.5M long-term, then Reinhart at 7.5M long-term too… That may be a lil cheap but got the feeling Zito will pull this one out… Which doesn’t make those investments any less meaningful !

Those three guys are awesome but they will soon be over 30, they all look like gamble long-term, atleast one of them will regress and be an anchor ! You have to be sure you’re about to win the Cup in the next three years with them as vital cogs. I believe they can be…

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be surprised if Zito pulls another rabbit out of his hat. I just don't think Bob has positive value even at 50% due to his age and fairly mixed bag of performances. And other teams aren't doing any favors for you, rather squeeze you hard when they see you need something. What's the saying, they throw a boat anchor rather than a life vest when you are drowning :D Freeing up cap space is super expensive atm.

Moving Ek is more realistic IMO. Only problem is it creates another hole to fix on defense.

If Bob wins a cup this year or goes to finals, then you probably can move him pretty easily. But at that point do you even want to move him

If he wins, you have to keep him ! :D

If he performs like last year and falls short, you will find interest !!

I think unless Bob wills us to the Finals again and goes Timmay in the Finals/Knight just regresses, Bob is gone in the offseason.

~10mil or less in cap hit for Knight + Career backup + buyout or retained salary > 14mil cap hit.

Also have to wonder if Zito wants to hand out longer term deals to the big 3 UFA to lower cap hits or try to cap the term to 4-5 but possibly eat more in cap

Haven't watched any of his games but his defense looks pretty solid this year and would bring back a bit of the Gudas element of laying big time hits.

I'm down for either him or Tanev if CGY starts to sell.

Reaves was like a -2 in 4 minutes of ice time last night. 100% completely cooked and also a bad fit for Toronto (bad team defense and goaltending). Every time he goes out on the ice, it's like a power play for the opposing team.
