Yes and no.

Lots of teams have minority owners involved, but they still have one overall majority (or at least controlling) owner. A true consortium, with multiple minority owners becomes very unwieldy if there's no one person who can say "the buck stops here".
Predators did this for over a decade and had no issues.

Apparently Garrioch reported on TV last night that any potential buyers are pretty much required by the NHL to include Reynolds in the ownership group.

Lmfao well it's official. We're getting Deadpool (if Bettman has it his way - which he always does).

Report: NHL tells bidders it wants Reynolds as Sens' minority owner

Such huge news for the league and the Sens in particular.

On a personal level I’m all for it, but doesn’t it seem odd that the NHL can mandate the composition of the consortium that will buy the team from the Melnyks? What if for some reason the Melnyks did not want Reynolds to be an owner. Wouldn’t that be their right?

I that it’s a non issue because Reynolds is so wholesome and charismatic, but it just seems very odd

I'm not keeping up very well. Why are they requiring that, and what's a 'green lantern clause'?

I doubt it's a strict requirement to have Reynolds as part of the ownership group, but rather an encouragement for groups to look at including him. This is because Reynolds is a likeable guy who is pretty good at promoting his prohects through social media.

As for the Green Lantern clause, I think the poster was just calling it that because Reynolds played Green Lantern in the 2011 movie about the superhreo. He could have easily also called it the Deadpool clause.

More than a dozen parties have expressed an interest in buying the Ottawa Senators, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said Tuesday.

“There are more than a dozen parties that have I believe signed an NDA and expressed an interest in the process,” Bettman told reporters at the NHL board of governors meeting in Palm Beach, Fla

I like his optimism but I don't see them exploding globally.
With a Welcome To Wrexham style show linked to the Senators, absolutely they can. Why do you think Gary Bettman specifically wants Ryan Reynolds involved?

Soccer is infinitely more popular than hockey. Yea, having an A Lister like Reynolds will get them some extra attention but I doubt they become a global brand like the Leafs/Cowboys/Yankees etc.

A division 5 team did in soccer. An NHL team has the potential to do so with the right exposure. But I mean you are pretty negative about all things senators in every thread you post in. So I see why you would take this position.

Its division 5 man. These players barely get paid they literally need another job. No one said they would be a global brand like the Yankees or Cowboys. I also think its funny how you include the leafs in that group. Just another tell.

Friedman reports sale.process going slower than expected.

I wonder if the NHL's insistence of having Ryan Reynolds as part of the ownership group has anything to do with it. After all, owning a sports team has a lot to do with ego and I could see some bidders not being happy about someone else taking the spotlight.

The deal is going to be connected with the arena deal, so expect to see people coming from that industry as the key players.

I expect you'll see ownership groups step forward, with some people with local ties supported by individuals with deep pockets.

John Ruddy was the guy who was supposed to be Melnyks partner on the last arena deal before it fell through and both sides tried to sue each other into oblivion. His name may resurface, particularly since his lawsuit is still active.

The Greenberg family will likely be in the mix. Long time developer family and operate the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group, which operate the football and junior hockey teams locally.

I also think you may see some surprise names pop up. If there are any wealthy individuals that want the honor of owning a Canadian NHL franchise, there's not many options these days. It doesn't even take local ties.

We'll see how quickly it moves. I think things may take a while to sort out as prospective buyers due their due diligence. But, this sale has been rumored for a while, so, lots of people have probably started the groundwork.
John Ruddy

Is this the same John Riddy who produced the godfather movies?
