And that's the thing, it wouldn't even be a major time committment on his part. He goes to a game or two a year, makes some promo videos for the team every few months, makes a social media post here and there, is a face of the franchise at a draft lottery or two yucking it up, and does the occassional media interview. Heck, I'm sure he'd even get to make a documentary series about the team akin to the Welsh soccer team that he co-owns, too, so more publicity for the team and league that way. Plus, he'd be feted as a hero that helped keep the team in Ottawa everytime he visited, and without any negative scorn if the team fares poorly as everyone would know he didn't have a majority stake giving him roster and staff authority.

What majority owner wouldn't want a partner like that?

yep, it's a gift for the new owners to bring him in. Heck, give the Gin contract (I don't much like gin or know if his is any good, so there's that). Give him a title like VP of Keeping it Real and just let him do his thing.

Flip side of that arguement is what majority owner does Reynolds want to be associated with? We have seen a couple of owners pressured into selling like Sarver, Sterling, Richardson and now Synder. Reynolds wants to avoid those kind of people.

Then there are those who business endeavours are not the cleanest like the aquilinis in Vancouver with their farming businesses and how they have treated their workers.

Reynolds has a good life with his wife, Kids, acting career and business investments. Be mindful of your reputation as it can be stained quickly with the wrong business partner.

An interesting development with Reynolds confirming interest in the team on Jimmy Fallon last night, is that he alluded to a big financial backer. We also know Jeff York is leading a bid apparently, with rumours of Alfie's involvement there.

As a Sens fan, if these are two separate bids, I don't know who you root for. Local entrepreneur with the most respected players in franchise history, or one of the most high profile and beloved Canadian celebrities, with a tremendous philanthropy record.

Either way you know the team isn't moving so who cares. really?

I’m a Bruins fan that definitely wants the Senators to stay In Ottawa for a few reasons.

There’s so much history there. In the Senators’ old life, there were Stanley Cup championships and a rich NHL history. I know the NHL doesn’t really care as much about that stuff as baseball or even football, but I, for one, don’t think it should be ignored. Embrace it. Toronto and Montreal do. Why not Ottawa?

Rivals. Ottawa has built-in rivalries with the Maple Leafs and the Canadiens. That generates buzz and interest. Dropping this franchise off in Atlanta; Houston; or Kansas City is a recipe for failure. It’s starting from scratch in new places where interest in hockey is NOT what it is in Ottawa.

Lastly, for my own selfish reasons, I want the Senators to thrive in Ottawa because the Leafs and Habs will have to devote time, money, and energy into competing with the Sens. Not just on the ice, but off as well. I welcome any thorn in the side of Montreal and Toronto. The enemy of my enemy…

Good luck, Ottawa. I really hope you get the buyer and arena you need.

PS: If the Bruins can’t win the Cup, I’d love to see Gary Bettman hand it to a small market Canadian team. That would make him and ESPN choke on their vomit, and I’d be very okay with that.

Lots of interest. Could result in bidding war if there are folks really want.

With the requirement to be vetted by the NCC for the LeBreton approvals and the league, I don't think anyone cold calling on this right now is that serious of a buyer. Anyone who's really in the mix here would need to have been doing the ground work over the last few months at least.

Andlauer currently owns 20% of the Habs. How does minority interest factor into conflict of interest rules?

If a majority owner I believe he would have to sell his stake. NHL hasn't had a majority owner in more than one market since the Wirtz family in Chicago and St. Louis I believe. Maybe Jacobs with Boston and Buffalo? But owning minority stakes in multiple franchises is something that Bell has done, in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa.

no he doesn't because he had control of the Canadiens AHL Affiliate.... that was in Hamilton.... Montreal still owns both now that it's in Laval, not Hamilton.... which he does own the OHL Version of the Bulldogs

He still owns a piece of the Habs. I'm not sure if it's 20% though, I had assumed smaller.
Opinion | Reports point to Bulldogs owner as front-runner to buy Ottawa Senators
...It’s not uncommon to have multiple investors involved in ownership. Right now he’s a part-owner of the Montreal Canadiens who’s said to be respected in the league offices. He might be able to pull together a consortium that would lower his personal share....

That’s what OKC owners said when they bought SuperSonics.

Not that Sens are going anywhere mind you but that kind of promise means very little.
Yeah but the OKC owners were the only people interested in buying the Sonics at that time. Same with the Memphis owners who bought the Grizzlies.

I wouldn't go that far.... in either case..... you forget the Seattle Storm had to be transferred to separate ownership before the Sonics became the Thunder
