Don't make me laugh. McDavid's value goes far beyond what he brings to the ice (and if you haven't noticed, he's pretty good at that hockey thing). He was able to almost single handedly lure both Sekera and Lucic as free agents, with Lucic straight up coming out and saying it. Before I hear any of the "there are 42 million things that lured Lucic to Edmonton jokes", note that the Canadiens offered him more.

Bingo. McDavid is worth far FAR more to the franchise than just on the ice. No thanks, to any offers.

have to be pretty daft to think Edmonton would ever trade McDavid, it's just never going to happen

That's a good point. Considering they'd also be forced to protect Sekera, they'd likely either lose Klefbom/Larsson or go 4+4 and lose Eberle.

The Oiler are not going to lose any "star" players they can protect Eberle, Lucic, Drisaitl, Nugent Hopkins, Sekera, Larson, Klefbom and Talbot. Sorry before you guys make another piss poor attempt to justify why McDavid should be traded you should know at least how to look up expansion draft rules

This is pretty even. I'm a huge huge McDavid fan but Karlsson is the best defenceman in the league and already a solid Hall of Fame option at only 26

Hey, champ, if you'd read the post I quoted you'd realize I was discussing who they'd have to protect if they did make this trade. So I was pointing out a reason why they shouldn't do it. Nice try though.

McDavid's value goes beyond what he does on the ice. His name on the back of an Oilers jersey draws eyes from all over the hockey world to Edmonton.

He is entirely untouchable regardless of the return.

Chance Edmonton names McDavid captain? 100%.

Chance Edmonton trades McDavid? 0%.

Edmonton would never trade their greatest player. :sarcasm:

Which is why it would never happen again. Pocklington probably came the closest an NHL owner ever has to getting shot by his own fanbase.

If they traded McDavid, especially after 10 years of frustration, without giving Oilers fans any real chance to enjoy watching such a talent grow again, and given the still bitter history of the Gretzky trade ... Chiarelli/Katz would need the US Army to fly Black Ops in to get them out of the city alive.

Sens fan here to acknowledge that there are no trades to be made involving McDavid.

PS there are also no trades to be made involving EK and Stone, so please don't bother coming up with some other proposal involving RNH and Nurse.

McDavid is in the second year of his ELC. Karlsson has 3 years left before UFA. At a minimum, you are looking at 6 years of McDavid vs. 3 years of Karlsson. That's a big difference and more heavily tilts the value towards McDavid.

If Karlsson was 3-4 years younger I'd do it easily. Imo, McDavid and Karlsson are #1 and #2 in terms of value in the entire league. That being said, McDavid is too valuable to the Oilers off the ice, his drawing power can't be calculated and this trade won't happen

The OP is a Jets fan... so how about Trouba, Schiefele, Ehlers?

I don't think the Oilers would do it because they wouldn't be willing to part with McDavid, but the value clearly favors them.

Lucic-RNH-Stone
Puljujarvi-Drai-Eberle

Klefbom-Karlsson
Sekera-Larsson

Puljujarvi is a RW . it would be more likely

Lucic Draisaitl Stone
Pouliot RNH Puljujarvi
Maroon XXX Eberle .

I don't think Edmonton touches it but if the were to consider it I think they ask for another add . Like a C , Maybe Brown while Edmonton adds Nurse

In my opinion if we got Brown included for Nurse it would have to be consider as that would be a helluva a D and a pretty good looking forward group

D you have right on the money . But I don't think the Oilers could take the back lash from fans . Suffering for 10 years only to lose the one true number one pick we got

there are likely rational trade packages from NHL teams for Karlsson.
there are zero trade arguments for McDavid.
By the time McDavid is 26 he will have at least two cups. There's the difference. Karlsson won't carry a team like McDavid will

Maybe one cup, he can't become a UFA fast enough to get two.
