Ottawa 67s 2024-25 Season Thread, Part II

Is the new defenseman playing for Ottawa?
Am finding it hard to get too excited about watching the game(s).
Such an underwhelming and disappointing day.

Jackson (acquired from Sudbury) and Avila are playing tonight.

Pinelli goes from playing with Catton and McKenna to…playing with Kimi Korbler.

Man, Foster. Gotta finish this...he had a lot of empty net in front of him but was probably shocked go get such a juicy rebound.

Really good game so far. The new kids are doing well.

Lol, Dever. What did he try to do there? That was pathetic. Coming from an 05 born veteran that's as horrible of a play as it gets. Against the Oshawa top line. Literally doesn't get any dumber.

MacKenzie is having a game and keeping the score as close as it is. This could be 4-1 or 5-1 right now

I was about to write that Avila has actually looked ok for a guy that has only played 6 Jr a hockey games when he had a sequence where he gave the puck away, missed a hit while trying to recover (hitting Korbler instead) and then got lost in front while they almost stuffed it in. Definitely a shift to forget, but I still think he is doing ok.

Jackson has been alright. I didn’t notice him in the first and I’m wondering if he arrived late? In the second he was noticeable and played well.

Our fourth line has barely seen the ice tonight. It is so frustrating to see Whitehead and Amidovski stapled to the bench.

Very good period. If not for the Dever brainfart game would still be tied. Maybe MacKenzie's best game of the season and he bailed them out on a couple of occasions but overall the 67's aren't allowing much. Defense is very solid. Dietsch/Brady holding their own despite a bigger role. I also like the Jackson/Avila pairing. Jackson very solid. You can tell Avila is very green and he was over aggressive at times, had some turnovers as well. Overall a very good game 1 so far though. I like him. Physical, active stick and trying to make plays.

He made a couple of key saves but overall the 67's are doing a good job boxing out. Oshawa with lots of possession but not a lot of quality chances, mostly volume shooting via perimeter shots. One of MacKenzie's best saves was actually off a fluke deflection. The Oshawa goal wasn't a chance they created either but came after a Dever brainfart.

67's had a few very good chances themselves. For example, Foster had an empty net in front of him on the shorthanded chance.

Yeah. Avila did make some mistakes but I like that he's trying things. He's trying to make plays, trying to be aggressive. And it's working for him more often than not. Plus he's playing with a very solid partner. They're playing very well considering it's their first game for the 67s.

Small sample size but looks solid, good hockey IQ, good size, reads the play well. Cameron even had him on the ice with Avila, the U18 puck from Greely seeing his fist action

Dever was top Center for a few mins but seems to have lost his gig already. Foster back between Pinelli and Körbler. Too bad because I actually think Dever could be doing well with Pinelli but he stupidly wasted his chance with that pathetic turnover that led to the Oshawa even strength goal. It's a shame because I liked Foster with Ekberg and Gerrior as well.

Have 37, 10 and 26 played a shift since the first period?

Even the 3rd line is hardly playing. Feels like Cameron is pretty much rotating Dever and Foster lines only. At least he played all 6 defensemen properly though I'm not sure I saw Avila much in the 3rd. Might have been benched as well.

Avila didn’t get another shift after hitting Korbler and having that tire fire of a shift.

Jackson got maybe a couple shifts in the third. Was mostly 2 forward lines with the odd shift for the Barlas line and 4 D the entire third.

I would add though that our top 4 D played well - maybe Brady’s best of the year.

That loss is on Dever. He wasted a very good team effort. Unfortunate outcome but a fun game.

Agree with what you are saying.
My point is, Boyd's bosses are super happy, this has been a good year $$$ in the old building they will soon replace. Why would they fire Boyd (even if some of us think he should be...)

The "failed deals" will only help bolster attendance until the rest of the 67s season is, and heck they will have two playoff games to boot.
I disagree about $$$ and fan interest.

I worked for or with two of the cheapest owners in OHL history. May God rest their souls, Howard and Earl.

There wasn't a penny that Earl did not pinch.

The philosophy was to put the most bums in the seats and keep the games enjoyable on the ice EVERY YEAR.

Off of that, I got to watch probably one of the best GM coaches in the OHL KIller work with that.

Killer knew that to get the most money for the team, he had to have the best players and the best product.

Even when the team was terrible , we still saw some great players playing.

They also knew that the heart of the machine was the STH. If you lose them you lose all that guaranteed money as well as ambassadors.

The first thing I can safely say EWarl would be harping about is getting rid of DC. This team has not performed how fans want it to and will drag the team down to probably the worst STH numbers ever. The team isnot icing any true stars and can not get them to sign here.

People here talk about money. OKAY, what player in next year's team is going to be a star? Is going to attrat the fans?

Even if Pineli is cut by CBJ and sent back he is not coming here.
Foster it would not surprise me to see him want out.

EKBERG is either going to be wanting a trade or will stay home.

The final point I will make is fans come to games to see the Future NHL stars at a lower price. If all you have are mid tier playes then fans will not be interested. If you coach mid-tier standard players, agents and thenHL will not be interested.

As per OMG^& I am out of here have better things sto do looks like Springer and Cooper are a better tandem than Larry Junior

This seems right, and I would agree that Jackson looked pretty solid in his first game for the 67s.

Fun game that the 67s were able to keep tight and give themselves an opportunity to win.

Really inexplicable that the younger players aren’t playing. This is a borderline playoff team; the kids should be playing 3-4 shifts a period at a minimum at this point in the team’s season and overall cycle. Otherwise they won’t develop and we’re left with 18/19 year olds who are inexperienced and under-developed for the roles they are expected to play at that point in their careers. Really bad stuff there by DC and exhibit #1 as to why he should be terminated at season’s end.

How did Riley look at the game was he having fun?

DC is doing the only ting DC knows how to do play kids tht understand what they are doing, let them do what they want and look good behind the bench.

He is now playing for 4th place and will only play the older players to hell with development.

He did nothing in Mississauga, and he will do nothing food here.

I am finished with Ottawa until Larry Junior and DC are gone.
