Not eligible only first round 08s
pretty sure he meant one of ‘25-2nd picks
Not eligible only first round 08s
It is referred to as opportunity cost. Every decision made affects something else.
If the priority is $$$$ in the short term then he shouldn’t have even entertained trading anyone at all. Clearly that was not the goal. He was actively shopping players. So Inreally don’t think short term $$$ was a factor at all.
WRT the WJHC, I think the result has left a bad taste in the mouths of the casual fan. I really don’t think we can expect a significant boost there. I could understand if the team was successful and Pinelli made a huge contribution, there would undoubtedly be a boost but this result was worst case scenario. In fact, I could argue no firing Dave Cameron right now is costing the team money and reputation damage.
Seems to me Boyd didn't make all the moves he could have, exactly to save his job, because it seems his incentive / objectives from OSEG are revenue based. Why else is Pinelli still here? Mews wanted out and pushed the issue with the NCAA angle, so Boyd had no choice to take whatever he could. Pinnelli in the very least would have some loyalty to Cameron, so it made more sense to keep him.
WRT to the WJC, the worse possible scenario happened. What could have been a boost to the 67s if Canada had had a decent showing, turned into making Cameron look really bad. Not good for Boyd to attract player. Still, As far a a boost financially for OSEG, TD Place was filled with fans for pre-tournament Canada games, and then filled for secondary team games. Didn't matter to them how Canada fared...
We took a bag of pucks for Stonehouse, because the plan to move McKenzie also failed miserably when he didn't perform in a market already saturated with good OA players and goalies. Stonehouse ended being then the only option to move out.
1> Boyd was actively working on trading Pinelli. He had moved out of the Billet house. He did not play on Wednesday. As far as everyone knew, he was GONE. This talk of keeping him for revenue is not justified. They did not act like they were worried about short term $$$. Your justification is baseless.
2> The Ottawa 67’s get ZERO dollars for the WJC Games. That money all goes to Hockey Canada. OSEG gets whatever the rink rental agreement was for. I doubt they even get the concessions. They’d have had a concessions deal as part of the Hockey Canada deal. The 67’s are/were not relevant at all with respect to revenue/profits.
3> The plan was to package Pinelli and Mayich for an ‘08 player. THAT fell through. Boyd couldn’t get a deal done with Brantford in time so Brantford went with Budnick. No one was taking on MacKenzie and we didn’t have a backup option. Boyd did well finding a last minute landing spot for Stonehouse.
Sorry, but this is the last convo I will make on the deadline. I don’t really want to justify my stance on it. I am reasonably sure, with all the back alley info I have that I am accurate at least 90%. I am not sure what Boyd turned down but we should be reasonably certain that NTC’s played a significant hand in the failure both ways (67’s and opponent). Boyd’s inability to at least secure an earlier picks based deal is inexcusable. He rolled the dice and lost, big time. There is no excuse when a 48 goal scorer with a good attitude and hard worker hits the market that he is not worth at least 2x(2-3-4) picks. I refuse to believe teams with a solid picks cabinet weren’t willing to give that.
I was referring to this year’s draft- 2025. Sudbury has two second rounders and somehow Ottawa didn’t end up with either despite trading the leading D scorer in the league! Not eligible only first round 08s
Was this on the table? Would those players have agreed to go to Kingston?Exactly, gambled and lost; and imo, good for him for holding out for players as a seller when he has not shown a willingness to part with players as a buyer.
Does 20 Kingston picks for Mews & Pinelli seem like a lost opportunity now?
Well, this season is a write off. No chance NB passes Ottawa in the standings after the exodus they managed to strategically execute. So, Ottawa is pretty much cemented in 8th and will likely be good enough to finish ahead of four teams in the Western Conference and two teams in the eastern conference which means we likely pick around 7th. Considering the disaster this year ha snow turned into, a 7th overall pick has to be scored as a big loss.
What does the team look like next year?
Barlas (OA) - Foster (OA) - Ekberg
Amidovski - Dever (OA) - Kelly
Yanni - Whitehead - Kingwell
Houben - Bowes - Houben
Marrelli - Eshkawkogan
Jackson - Brady
Dietsch - Bonomo
Nelson
???
We can add:
1> Import player
2> NCAA commits like Vandenberg and Krawczyk
3> 2025 1st, 2nd, 3rd round picks.
4> Free agent players currently in NCAA or supposed to be in NCAA
5> Players from the 2025 U-18 draft
We could sub out one of the OA forwards and keep Horner and use him on RD.

So what is even the plan with this franchise now? Trading Mews sends an absolutely horrible message to both fans and to players around the league. The message is crystal clear - players don't want to play in Ottawa. Heck, even a local kid whose father has strong business ties here wanted out. It sends up a red flag to players, and it tells fans that this franchise isn't serious about winning. The most charitable look at what they are doing is that they are rebuilding with an eye to the opening of the new building in 2027, but that doesn't explain why Pinelli is still here. I don't care if it looks like a bad return - if you're burning it to the ground go all out. I have tried to be charitable to Boyd in the past, but this is a dumpster fire now. If I'm wrong, then he better get himself on TSN 1200 and give some answers...
Don't play the lottery todayTrades will still be annouced after 12:00. If say 10% chance Pinelli is still in OTT.

Boyd on Team 1200: Boyd: We felt the timing might be right to recoup some assetsNo shit. I thought your GM would have just taking the best offer possible. If that was 3 2nds and that’s it then still take it. Those 2nds are huge. Be really curious to see wha let he turned down to keep Pinelli and get knocked out round 1.

He suggests that Pinelli’s choice of destinations along with players refusing to come here both played a factor. He also said a bunch of nonsense I don’t believe, so take that as you will. I’m profoundly disappointed with how this deadline went. We needed to move Pinelli - a disappointing return is better than no return. We have a glut of prospective OAs for next year, got a completely tepid return for a star in Mews…I’ve been excited all year about this team and their future but this evening I’m headed to the rink feeling completely deflated.
