If we can get Vandenberg and Krawczyk signed, this is what the roster would look like for 2026-27:

Amidovski - Whitehead - Ekberg
Yanni - Vandenberg - Kelly(OA)
Kingwell - Krawczyk - Perrier
Houben

Marrelli(OA) - Eshkawkogan
Dietsch - Brady(OA)
Bonomo

Nelson

We’d also have another Import, all the ‘09 and ‘10 draft picks to add to that lineup. We could also see a player or two added at the deadline. If Mews is dealt next season, there is the return for him as well. I slipped in the OA’s but we could see upgrades mixed in there as well.

Considering this is two seasons away, if we can get those two signings completed, we would look pretty solid.
Hate to look at the downside to your lineup BUT we have to be careful with the number of NCAA players that we carry in the lineup. For instance, 27-28 will not be a good year as we will lose Vandenberg Kelly Marelli Brady Ekberg

If the M Cup is a goal, we have to look at putting together a team that is going to be here for a while

You are assuming the NCAA guys leave as 18 year olds. I think that is the wrong assumption.

Does anyone have any theories as to why this ream can't kill a penalty?
Do we actually miss Derek Smyth? (this year is worse than last year when Smyth was the PK whipping boy...)

Kingwell didn’t look out of place at all.
Dog on bone mentality and was winning puck battles against veteran players that are much bigger than him.
He also made a couple nice plays in transition with some high IQ plays that I don’t think his linemates were expecting.
Imo he was a pleasant surprise.

Does Mews always slap his stick on the ice constantly for the puck all game long every game? Got kind of old quick watching that everytime his d partner would get the puck he’s tapping for it.

Vandenberg is signed to 27

Only time will tell but it is something that has to be kept inind

The commitment process int he NCAA is non-binding for both sides. There is no contract. Not only can a player make a commitment and change it at any time, the school can as well. The commitment process is somewhat helpful as it allows the player and the school to begin an alignment process but the reality is, it is meaningless.

In the OHL, you sign your Player Development Contract, you are bound by that contract. Your rights are owned by the CHL Team. In the NCAA, your scholarship is reviewed on an annual basis. You must maintain your eligibility to qualify for the next year BUT, the school also has to want you. If your performance slips and they have better options and are a competitive program, especially schools with limited full scholarships, they can strip your scholarship and give it to someone else. A player can also apply for transfer and leave the school if they don’t feel their best interests are taken into account.

Any commitment that was made prior to the rule change would need to be reconsidered (by both the player and the school). The schools will also have access to more mature players from the CHL. It is going to get progressively more difficult for younger players at 18 and 19 to nail down roster spots at the NCAA level when 20 and 21 year old CHL players are eligible.

The entire landscape is going to change. With it, the median age in the NCAA will change with it.

We may see some players bolt early but I can also see teams choose not to sign players that plan to only play one or two years. Why waste a roster spot and development energy on short team 16-17 year olds? I wouldn’t. Maybe if it were a blue chip player that would provide a top half of roster impact? Maybe if it was a player you were certain that you could entice them to delay their commitment? But, if a player was honest and stated their intention was to play NCAA at 18, I would not sign them as a 16 or 17 year old. I wouldn’t retain their rights on my 50 man protected list but that’s about it.

Hearing ALOT of rumblings that you will have Parker Vaughn in the new year.

That is my wish list player. Pinelli and someone else would need to be involved. Maybe Mayich? Maybe Foster?

Sounds like the NB deal fell through if that is the case.

EDIT: or if the deal with NB had VanSteensel/Romani, maybe Stonehouse is the comparable that makes that deal work? Stonehouse and Pinelli?

Is Musty really leaving? Ill believe it when i see it.

I guess Sudbury still holds the cards but would you want a player that doesn’t want to be there? As soon as their season is over, Musty plays in the AHL. If he prefers that over playing for the Wolves, do you want an uncommitted player like that? I think that is the real question.

I bet it’s Dever, 3rd line Centre

Dever wouldn’t be in their top 9. That is a really deep team. They have 9 guys that would play ahead of him. Add Pinelli to that mix makes it 10 guys. Maybe Dever could play a role on the 4th line replacing Vaughn as 4RW?

This is Barrie's Draft capital. Going to be hard to make a big swoop, no? Pinelli and Dever/Stonehouse deal would need to be more than Vaughn and what little picks they have?

Barrie is 9 deep up front and 4 deep on the back. Adding Pinelli makes them 10 deep up front. I cannot see Dever making a difference for them. If they add Stonehouse, they delete Wigle. Maybe Williamson sees Stonehouse as having intangibles that make a difference to his squad where swapping out Wigle makes sense but that’s a pretty big “if.”

Even Mayich would need to replace Wigle as an OA and then unseat one of Akey, Eliasson, Aitcheson, or Bertucci. I don’t’ think Mayich is enough of an upgrade on their defence to delete Wigle as an OA.

Foster may make some sense but, again, where does he fit in? He may end up on the 4th line or barely hanging on to the 3rd line. At what point do the returns start to diminish and additions become inconsequential?

This is looking more like Pinelli for Vaughn in some sort of deal where it’s either 1 for 1 or close to it. A 1 for 1 deal for Vaughn favours Ottawa IMO. A half season of Pinelli for 3.5 seasons of the 5th overall pick.

Yes agree that Kingwell looked good for a first game. Hopefully he'll be a good contributor next year. As for Mews he has been way more assertive the last 6-7 weeks or so which coincided with his huge turnaround. He basically went from a disinterested player and defensive liability, to playing a responsible defensive game and an elite offensive one. Don't know what happened. I have also noted he demands the puck way more...confidence?? Either way you can't argue with the results and I am fine with him having the puck on his stick right now.

Mews has never seen a puck that he hasn’t fallen in love with!
