Stonehouse and Mayich.

Both are set to be OA’s next season. Stonehouse has an NHL contract. Mayich doesn’t.

Since Stonehouse has an NHL contract, it is unlikely he returns next season for an OA year. He now becomes a candidate for trade at the deadline. Mayich, on the other hand, does not have a contract. It is likely he returns next season. The Blues have the extra year to get him signed and since he was a late round pick, I think it is unlikely they will sign him early. I think his game needs to improve offensively and he would benefit from that extra season in the OHL.

That lines up MacK, Gerrior, and Mayich as the Plan “A” OA’s next season.

I guess that now means we start to consider what the projected value is for Stonehouse at the deadline. What is he? He’s a potential 40 goal scorer that is a pain in the arse to play against. HE is an agitator that draws penalties. The latter of those attributes are why Edmonton signed him. I’ve said many times he is the OHL version of Brad Marchand. For him to go undrafted and then sign an NHL contract right after camp, you gotta think the Oilers see something in him as a pro. How does that translate at the deadline? He isn’t the type of player to play for Team Canada and he isn’t high profile. Maybe Brett Harrison is a comparable? Is that too much? Stonehouse isn’t a centre. Tyler savard doesn’t score enough to be a comparable. Then there is Zhilkin. Again, another centre but Stonehouse is more productive with the puck and without it. Zhilkin and Harrison went for same trade value.

I think it will all depend on where the trade market is this deadline. Stonehouse won’t go for a 2023 1st but I think he is in that group of players that are one step below those guys. LAst season those guys went for two 2nds and three 3rds. Will the market be similar this year or depressed?
The "agitator" part is particularly intriguing I think as there aren't many with that blend of skill and shift disturber qualities. There aren't many of those around the league and in the right scenario you may end up in a bidding war. I think the return value could be surprising.

It was nice to see some net presence, rather than the "one and done" we saw last week.

The situation with Mayich in the third doesn't seem fair. He hit a Sudbury player and it seemed clean to me. Immediately, another player jumps in and instigates a fight. That happened last week with Hilton and I doubt he threw so much as one punch. Mayich sits 5, while the instigator gets two, ten, and five. It takes out a key Ottawa player for five of the last six minutes. If the League is serious about eliminating fighting, this kind of deliberate stupidity needs two, five, and a game misconduct, plus supplemental discipline, particularly in the last ten minutes of a game.

This will shine light on what edmonton saw in him

Nothing there that we don’t already know by watching him for the last couple years.

It is not often an undrafted 19 year old get an NHL Contract. We do see it with the 20 year olds now and then but this is a testament to the type of player we kno whe is. He is Brad MArchand and could potentially develop into the same pest for the Oilers that the Bruins have had for over a decade.

It was a very hard but clean hit, the Sudbury player stepped in and asked Mayich to go and Mayich was a willing participant. The instigator call was inappropriate in this situation imo as Mayich agreed to fight and had time to prepare himself. Nothing really wrong here, on the part of Mayich or the Sudbury player who stepped in for his teammate.

Ottawa played much better yesterday. Lawrence seems like he’ll be a solid addition. Ideally I’d still like a veteran D man to play with Mayich, but with the Stonehouse news this week it doesn’t feel like the right year to deplete assets.

Ottawa played 1 period today and the rest of the time they looked like a last place team. I can see them losing but the way it happened was hard to take.

Cameron you better get prepared for next weekend, otherwise our record could be 1 and 5 after our Sudbury game.

I wouldn’t say that. You guys played pretty good. But our offence with a days rest was clicking for the first time this year.

Vaccari made several good saves otherwise it would’ve been closer.

The 67s had very few real scoring chances in the last 2 periods. Lots of shots but all from the perimeter. You have to get in any goalie's face if you want to score.

Made it too easy for the Fronts. No sense of urgency even on the powerplay.

Nice scheduling. Looking forward to the rematch. Apparently some kid named Musty will be in the lineup.
Where do you guys see the 67’s finishing?

It is. Home schedules don’t get much better than the wolves, but the ‘67s have managed.

Ok bud. Not that I asked you. Not the time or place to do it, but let’s compare the three and threes with travel sometimes. I guess it would’ve killed you to admit the 67s had quite an advantage having only played one game while the Wolves were playing three in less than three. I see you’ve been pretty silent on our board, but you come here to shoot your mouth off right away. I don’t think you’re being particularly missed.

Every year there are posts about the hard done by wolves team from the north are victims of a brutal road trip east.
Kudos to (Kilrea?) for making Saturday & Sunday afternoon traditional home games for the ‘67s.
I’m sure that before the schedule is official teams get to voice a couple of concerns. Perhaps the wolves preferred 3 in 2.5 so the boys could be with their family for a couple of days over Thanksgiving and/or save on expenses incurred if the trip was extended to 3.5-4.5 days.
The wolves do well hosting teams on Fridays that played in Barrie or NB the night before. They also get their fair share of hosting teams at the tail end of 3 in 2.5-3.5 days on Sunday afternoons.

Said differently with a similar meaning, the ‘67s home schedule is even better than the wolves very favourable home schedule.

I don't know why Ottawa is waiting to get Mayer, this guy will bring size and experience

It probably is because the Petes are not trading Sam Mayer at this point in the season. If he is traded it will be at the trade deadline. The cost for him would be expensive likely either a 2nd and a 3rd or a defenceman and a high draft pick.

A lot of talk but not a lot of action yet. Stonehouse signed which means he is very unlikely to return next season. He’s now a trade target. Donoso played both games this weekend while MacK sat. Why? Korbler hasn’t played a game. Why? Cheap acquisition for Lawrence. Is it the market or are the 67’s trying to be as good as possible without moving anything of value? Probably not trying to move anything of value.

The sense I am getting is they are simply trying to be as good as possible without spending anything. They are likely trying to recoup assets which is why Stonehouse is a trade deadline asset on the market. So, what would be left?

Hypothetically, we have Stonehouse and Donoso on the market. Maybe Mayich as well, although I do think he is a strong OA candidate next season. The issue with that is the numbers. They have five returning D-Men next season without Mayich so are they heavily concerned about him returning? If this team is average through this season, what are the expectations for next seeason?

A lot of questions needing to be answered. Only time will tell.

There is not much available on the overage market at this point particularly at forward. The only overages being traded are team’s excess overages and the only forwards available were Kaleb Lawrence and Pasquale Zito. Zito is at home pondering his future so Lawrence was the only forward available to the 67s. The higher end overages will likely be available at the trade deadline for a much higher price than what overages are going for right now.

Nobody is waiting for Mayer. There is nothing to wait for because right now he is an important part of the Petes.

I guarantee that once the Petes decide to get rid of him it will be a very quick deal no waiting no standing around.

We have this year a good team. Not a team that is going to rock the world. Hell, we have been at the top for the past few years. It is time we came back to earth. Reset and get ready for another run. Even adding Mayer is not going to make this team as good as last year.

Boyd realized that and decided to do the smart thing and pressed the pause button. We are still going to be a good team to watch, but Cameron and the players are going to get a chance to develop this year.

We ended last year thinking this would be a year to replenish our supplies by trading Beck and Donoso. Well, we may get a chance to add even more by trading Beck, Donoso and Stonehouse. Stonehouse is probably going to get us the most, as he will be a deadline deal.

Is Mayich going or staying that is going to be up to the rest of the league. I'm sure that if Boyd gets an offer that blows him away Mayich will also be gone.

This team I think is building to 25/26 when we will have a heck of a team. Next year we will be good but I think we will be better then.
