Cheaper than I thought it would be.

AGAIN, no bodies involved! How many do we need? Boyd better solve that issue. We don’t need 10 D-Men.
I have to say that we have one who has been here for two years, with little or no improvement. I don't like singling out players, but we need D that can cover the crease and move the puck.

Question, why am I hearing that you guys are potentially moving out Kaleb Lawrence? You already have Lawrence, Donoso, and Mayer. Am I missing something?

There’s a reason why we are upgrading. HE is a decent roster filler. He served his purpose for us for a couple months. Nothing special. Half a point per game player playing as a top 6 Centre.
Wish Flint would have scooped him in the Kressler deal if it was just you guys keeping that 9th. I think Lawrence would fit Flint’s roster well and they still should want to slide into 7th or 8th and maybe win a game. As far as Kressler goes? Watch. Face off wins. Effective in all 3 zones and ANY situation. Super responsible. My only complaint would be that with this roster THIS year he forced a few more shots than I would like but that’s nitpicking. He’ll be well liked in the locker room too.

Boyd referred to him as the top OA centre available and he was their #1 target.

Likely we are not done but as we just lost our third line center wondering who will play there. In the sun Cameron called Foster " our best center" before he got suspended, so
Pinelli/Kressler/Stoney
Gerrior/Foster/Dever
Barlas/Gardiner/Kelly
Yanni/Whitehead/Hilton
Korbler
Not bad but would much prefer adding another center and keep Gerrior/Gardiner/Foster together

I really like both moves. What's important now is to move some bodies out (and recoup some picks if possible) and then establish some consistent lines and defensive pairings. No more playing 9 defensemen and 9 or 10 forwards - and no more moving defensemen up and forwards back.

The addition of Kressler, along with the return of Barlas (and eventually Foster) should allow this team to roll four pretty solid lines. Defensively, Mews, Marelli, Mayich, Mayer, Sirman and Ewles are now your top six (and you keep one of Brady/Horner/Smyth around along with Dietsch). Not knowing the extent of Mackenzie's injury, I think you keep both him and Donoso.

The key to the second half of the season will be getting this group to play together consistently (barring any injuries, suspensions etc.) and to establish some chemistry and cohesion.

I’m pretty sure the plan is to move donoso and open the OA spot for another addition. Most likely another centre. Balance out the top 3 lines. We would then add a capable 19 year old backup goalie.

I’m not sold on Ewles. If I had to guess, I would say Smyth and Sirman as the 3rd pair. I know they are both lefties but they likely only play about 12 minutes per game when we are up against the stiffer competition anyway.

The only remaining question is whether we swap out one or two Imports. Uronen is out for the year and Korbler hasn’t really shown any production. Would Boyd walk from one or both of those guys for the right addition? That is the one part I have not heard anything about. The other stuff was on the table around a week ago. It is now just playing out. The fact I haven’t heard anything about the Imports suggests we will roll with what we have there but we shall see.

Send Brady (Ptbo kid) our way for Sztuska. Win win imo.

Edit - as I think of it, it probably really makes sense for the Petes to send a pick for him if he's going to be odd man out in Ottawa.

Edit2 - I guess if Oke wanted him, he could have been in today's trade.

Okay these deals make absolutely no friggin sense to me.

The idea at the beginning of the season was to gain picks for the future.
Then we say we are going to move one of the wings to center because we are short wings.
We trade for Lawrence to fill a center hole and he does.
We then cry that we need another center becsaue Foster and Barlas are not it.
We want Boyd to get another OA center with the open pick we have.
He does that and solves the issue this year for centers and leaves us with Foster playing the wing again. EVERYONE HAPPY
He then trades picks only for Mayer leaving us with way to many D and releases Lawrence
Now we have that same hole that we cried about
Foster is going to go back to being a center again
Donoso is still here
EVERYONE IS HAPPY.

Can someone take a picture of the team when it hits the ice for the next game? I swear I am listening and reading about the KINGSTON FRONTENACS WITH GM LARRY VARTY CIRCA, THE memorial Center.

We have a sub-500 team, but we still do not have any scoring power. We have a goalie who is injured. We are going to release a good goalie and go with a kid who has not seen any OHL ice time.

Just so we can say we tried

I do not see how any of these trades make us stronger than Kingston, Brantford or Sudbury.

With Robertson now in Niagara, I think Flores makes a lot of sense.

Deadline is Wednesday. How about you wait until Wednesday evening before you criticize. Let’s see what the roster looks like then. You’ve known for a few days now that we were likely flipping all the OA’s.

People are happy because he did more than the minimum. They know there is at least one more shoe to drop, probably 2 or 3 more. We likely add another centre and a backup goalie At the minimum.

We had everything we needed to be competitive, but now we are looking pathetic. What happens if we release Donoso and send him back only to have Mack injure his groin again?

I'd like to see a big, tough winger as well.
Yeah ok, let's give everyone what they want. We will trade for w inger with our picks for next year. We will get a backup goalie with the picks for 2026.

After all, next year, we can trade Mack Pinelli and Gardiner for picks to recoup.

OH crap, I am sorry that was the song last year. We can get our picks back with Beck, Rohrer, Stonehouse and Donoso. How is that working out again?

Again, I lived in Kingston when what we were doing was the plan. The only major difference was that Mav used the number 1 pick and draft picks every year.

Unless we are going to get a couple of high point producers, this team will still not be the best in the conference this year, next or the year after the way they are going.

You are mistaken. The song last year was we didn’t make enough trades. We added two pieces to fill two wide open holes in our lineup. If we had made the added moves and traded Mews like we should have, and maybe picked up DelMastro or Wright or Beck in addition to Mintyukov and Morrison, we’d be in a completely different situation right now. Boyd didn’t do enough last year. He left gas in the tank. That mistake cost us a trip to the Finals and potentially a Championship.

In fact, I think if we had offered up Marrelli and picks to Kingston for Wright and Mews and picks to Missy for Beck, we’d have had both those guys. We’d be having a completely different conversation today.

Again you make the assumption that we do not know

Did Boyd make the offer for Wright and Beck.

reember Wright had a select list of teams he would play for and If I remember correctly we were not on it.

Also, look at the defence you would have had if we traded Mews and Marelli last year. It would look a lot like this year
last year this year
Matier Mews
Mintykov Marelli
Constantini Brady
Sirman Sirman
Mayich Mayich
Smyth Smythe
Ewles Ewles
horner Horner

Big difference is

DONOSO MACK
mACK ?

Kingston wanted a D-Man. They’d have taken Marrelli as a 16 year old over Miedema as a 17 year old almost assuredly. Mississauga likely balances out their group taking a D-Man (Mews) in the Beck deal over JVV when they also got Martone and MacDonnell, both strong forwards in the other deals with Sarnia.

So, logic states the 67’s would only potentially had needed to sweeten those deals With an extra decent pick.

Who cares what this year’s roster would have looked like? The whole point was to sell If we had gone all in last year anyway.

I am not suggesting Ottawa should have done both of those deals plus the Morrison and Mintyukov deals but they easily could have done one of them. The point is to win a Championship, you need to make a bigger commitment than what they did. So, when you try to make an argument like, “Look what happened last year...” You cannot equate it. They didn’t go far enough.

We can make that argument if they stopped at just Kessler because they’d have repeated what they did last year. Even stopping now, they’d be repeating what they did last year.

If next year is a seller year, then you do everything possible this year. Let the chips fall where they may.

Anyway might not be happening as per OHL for life...is he really that bad defensively? It's fixable though but you can't teach to put the puck in the net. Anyhow I'd prefer a center over a winger at this point.

Trust me, if Peer came to Ottawa, you'd love him. The kid puts up a point-per-game pace, has impressive speed, and is one of the great characters you'll see today.
