Sadly when your senior leadership offers only selfish and/or undisciplined play, you have nothing any one is interested in. Maybe taking Savard at this point would give Cameron the complete set

It is sounding like that may get fixed soon….

This is a make the playoffs, play 4 -5 games, and go home team.

It is unfortunatley going to look that way next year.

If I am Kingston, I grab Donoso for free and shore up my net.

Finding 2 OA centers is going to be difficult.

Sell sell sell.

The 67s have some fantastic players, but also have several players that are massive negatives and who are dragging the team down with undisciplined and/or simply poor play. We dressed 8 defensemen tonight and half of them aren’t what I would consider to be OHL quality D-men (on second thought I’ll give Brady a break as he’s a rookie). It’s hard to believe that this is the same team that dominated possession on a nightly basis and outshot teams by significant margins only a year ago. We have no forecheck or possession game this season, that part of the offense is simply gone. The relentless puck pursuit is gone. It’s like we’re watching a completely different team with a completely new coaching staff.

If Boyd goes out and buys, which it sounds like he might be planning on doing, he has a significant workload ahead of him to turn this team around and into a contender. I feel this will turn out all for not and we’ll have squandered an opportunity to do a big sell this season. This team should be selling down to the studs, not buying.

I think if we take a couple steps back and look at the big picture, we would see the team is currently not constructed in a way that allows for competitiveness. Teams can key in on one line or one player (Pinelli), and attack half of the defence. We aren’t a deep enough team to be short.

If we add the first line centre, that removes Whitehead from the top 9. If we add a third line centre, that removes Lawrence from the top 9. It gives proper support in all areas of the ice. Allows for better puck management and control.

If we were to add a top pairing d-Man that can quarterback the PP, we gain percentage points on offence via special teams. Right now we have Mews who makes forced decisions and Ewles who is, well, struggling. They even had Sirman on the PP tonight. That is just silly.

Adding jsut those three pieces stretches out the roster, allows Cameron to reinstitute his system and once the new guys settle in and the liens form, we are back to swifter puck movement. We are better supported fromt he back end. We don‘t have guys playing above their station.

Now, is that enough? That addresses the immediate needs. But, what if we have an injury or two? Back to square one. That is why I believe we need another forward and another D-Man. They don’t need to be high production players. They need to be experienced and competent.

Five players is a tough ask, I know. But, it is doable. We have three underused OA spots right now. We have two underused Import spots as well. We have a handful of capable OHL players that can fill some depth holes on other teams and have years ahead of them to continue developing in an atmosphere where they will be allowed to make mistakes.

When we see a player like Loukus go for a 6th and 9th, clearly there are OA players out there that can help. We’d need to pay heavier for the first pairing D-Man and Front line centre. But the other three would come cheaper. Potentially more affordable.

The possibility exists with some savvy moves and some fortunate luck, Boyd could reshape the roster just enough to make a go of it.

He could reshape the roster, but will he? If his track record is any indication, he’ll add a few OAs and call it a day. I agree with you that that wouldn’t be enough; I think we need five additions as well - 3 forwards and 2 defensemen. And of course a healthy MacKenzie.

If Boyd can construct a defense corps that includes Sirman (who was pretty good last night imo) on the 3rd pairing, that would be a competitive group. As it stands right now, we have 4 capable OHL defensemen. Bring in two new players, and no harm in keeping Ewles and Brady around as #7/8 guys. Trade the remainder.

Up front, I actually liked what I saw from Gardiner-Stoney-Gerrior last night. That could be a competent middle 6 line for us in a bolstered lineup. However, the problem last night was Pinelli being centered by Lawrence and having Kelly on his other wing - that’s anything but ideal. As you say, that’s where we need that strong #1 centre that can optimize Pinelli’s skill set such that he doesn’t feel the need to try and dangle through the entire other team. Pinelli is an incredible player, his skill level jumps out as you, but as we often discuss he tries to do too much (because he has to, generally) and it’s easy for the opposition to key in on him. So we need a top line centre and likely a winger to complement that first line.

If the third forward addition is a centre, I certainly have no problem with Barlas and Foster on the wings. That would be a pretty decent third line. Then Whitehead and Dever form the core of the 4th line, with Korbler, Yanni, Kelly (if he’s not dealt). Pretty good.

Lots of work for Boyd to do!

Let's not panic people. We're going through a rough spot because of injuries. This was a good team before all the injuries and will be again. A great team as constructed no, a good team yes. We are simply too young and do not have the depth to deal with this situation. Heck just having Barlas helped. Foster and Dever will help even more whether they make moves or not.

It’s a rough spot due to the way the roster was constructed. At the beginning of the year they needed to add a veteran 1C and RD, almost everyone knew that. They needed these players to determine exactly what the group was capable of.
Operating without a full compliment of OA’s leaves the team vulnerable to this as it lacks leadership both on and off the ice. The immaturity of this team is exposed in the tough games and stretches in the schedule.
Bringing in a sub par OA like Lawrence filled a roster need but didn’t influence the culture or character of the team the way more elite OA’s are capable of providing. As a result it has turned into what would be expected, a young hockey team who gets slapped around by more veteran teams and when the full compliment of players isn’t available there is virtually no push back.

To add to that, having Donoso around as an OA BUG pretty much destroys any influence he might have. He needed to be traded or assigned the starters roll to maintain any credibility with his team mates.

This team is playing one OA short, and one import player short. The import we have is a replacement level player who can't help us much at least this year, and one of the OAs is a 1B goalie at best. This is not a recipe for success.

Here's a question - do we expect Uronen back next year? You never know with import players - Rohrer was coming back until suddenly he wasn't anymore - but you would think by this stage that Boyd has some indication of whether he is coming back or not. If he is waffling at all, I would try to replace him in that import slot for the remainder of the year. It is a free upgrade to a roster that dearly needs it. Similarly, we need to take a swing on an OA player to add some depth and experience to the roster. If it doesn't work out, so what - the player is gone at the end of the season anyway. Playing one OA short is ridiculous to me - you're competing with one hand tied behind your back and you are not giving your kids the best chance to win every night. GM needs to get busy and go fix the flawed roster he has on his hands - there are solutions out there if he works to find them.

Had hoped the past month was just a phase. Never thought we were serious contenders this year (and I think it’s a pipe dream to think next year is going to be a run based on precious little of substance to build around based on the current trajectory), but there was effort, enthusiasm and drive which only the occasional shoddy goaltending performance derailed, until the past month. Acknowledged there have been injuries (suspensions etc), but the current group is not only non-competitive, but increasingly unwatchable.

Until a month ago, even with the warts, the (relative) “Down” state of the “O” this year (and perhaps the CHL as a whole based on the WJHC performance), it did look like with a tweak or two they had a puncher’s chance to get to Rd2.

Without a serious change in attitude and on ice effort, they will be watching the 2nd Rd and we will be wishing we did not have to watch Rd1.

In 25yrs as a STH, the last month has been the closest the team has been as ugly as the one iced in Kanata during the Lansdowne renovations.

I really hope they have the turkey out of their system starting today against Kingston.

If, as OMG hints, there are moves coming will there be a couple of scratches this afternoon of certain players?

I see on the Flint page Ottawa has acquired Braeden Kressler from Flint. Looks like 4 or 5 draft picks going to Flint and a couple of picks coming back with Kressler

That is a lot of assets moving out for 3 months service of an OA for a team that isn’t that strong…

Likely the first of several moves.

Guelph was a mid pack team the year that they beat Ottawa a few years back. As long as they are making more moves, let’s make a run!
