Chris Barlas has really taken off lately, with 5 points and a +6 rating in his past five games, in a timeframe where the team has been average. The move to the wing has really boosted him.

On TSN1200 Kenny Walls said that his fight this weekend was the best he’s seen in the league all year. Does anybody have a link to it?
No link but there some bombs thrown by each, Barlas left for some repair (over the eye I think).
Barlas must be at his 3-fight limit?

I think he has 3 but one was an instigated upon. I believe both him and Sirman are sitting at two.

October 23 Chris Barlas VS Alex Pharand

November 9 Chris Barlas VS Maleek McGowan

November 27 Chris Barlas VS Nolan Collins
Nolan Collins had an instigating

December 9 Chris Barlas VS Alec Leonard

What is the fighting rule? 3 fights 4th one you have to miss the next game? Doesn’t count as a fight if the other side gets the instigating?

Looks like Barlas is at his 3. If you are instigated upon then it doesn’t count towards your total before missing games.

I think it doubles now. You get a one game followed by a 2 game then 4 game suspension etc.

Someone else can confirm.

North Bay just paid quite a bit for Zito out of Niagara. Two 2nds, one 3rd, a conditional 3rd and 5th plus Podolioukh. Podolioukh was a NB 4th rounder in 2020 so he’s an ‘04 Forward. Not a significant player by any means but Niagara probably needed a body back.

The good part about Zito for North Bay is he is likely to return for an OA season so that is probably the condition on the second 3rd round pick. So, if you look at it that way, it is a reasonable trade. But, Zito isn’t what anyone would consider an impact player. He’s a point per game type so solid but not wowzers.

He’d have been a good addition for Ottawa. Zito is an Ottawa born player that would be an OA next year on a team short at centre going into next season. If Ottawa were looking to add that 2nd forward, he’d have been a solid candidate.

North Bay is likely done. They have no more 2nds or 3rds available for trade. If they do anything else, it would be tweaking at the bottom of the lineup where deals would be in the range of a 5th/6th round pick as compensation.

NB just got even deeper while JB is selecting his WJ roster

Miss trades Zakary Lavoie to the dogs is this a sign of Missy selling or making room for someone time will tell

If that is true, we’d need to see what is going back to Mississauga first. Lavoie is a former 1st in 2020.

EDIT:

Mississauga receives:
two 2nds
two 3rds
one 4th

I don’t know what to think about this one. Mississauga was light on picks but not light enough to need to make this deal. At first glance, you have to think the Steelheads are throwing in the towel but we shall see.

Based on North Bay’s depth chart, Ottawa needs to add two forwards. Morrison would be a good add but I think the 2nd forward needs to be someone with some size that can play on the 3rd line with Tolnai and Beck but can compliment them with some offence, or at least doesn’t hurt them. That player would still need to be a good fit. Tyler Savard from SSM comes to mind…

Foster - Morrison - Stonehouse
Pinelli - Rohrer - Boucher
Savard - Tolnai - Beck
Barlas - Gardiner - Gerrior

I think as a forward group, it can stand up well against North Bay. There would be reasonable scoring through all four lines. Gardiner and Gerrior can both drill up the lineup if they have injuries. Each line has an agitator.

I don’t have any issues with the defence overall. Matier, Smyth, Mayich and Costantini all have good to reasonable size. Sirman plays bigger than his size. The other three have average size. All are mobile and can move the puck. I’d like to see maybe an addition here but I think I’m probably a little too greedy.

Two solid goalies to round out the roster.

Zito won’t be back as an oa. Where did you ever see zito play other than 1 game against Ottawa?

Not sure what Miss’ next move is after trading 2-2yr players in Enright & Lavoie, but Niagara is loading up on ‘04 born. A big solid defensive 3rd line centre and a much needed RW among their 4th - ‘04 born 1st! A good day for Niagara imo.

Zito is a point per game 6th rounder with average size. There is nothing about his game that stands out as NHL calibre.

He’s a good all around player but I question whether Detroit actually uses a contract on him.

At best it is 50/50.

Zito has speed, hits hard often and adds offense. He cans also fight with the best so adds many elements to NB. If he stays healthy, he compliments an already tough team to play against.

Zito is the battalion type.
He should have a real shot at being a gritty pro checking line centre. He really is good all around.

Agreed but Pro NHL or AHL? Is he better than 50/50 NHL contract guy or more likely to come back for an OA season?

There is no question he is a solid OHLer but there are lots of solid OHLers that don’t even sniff pro hockey let alone sign NHL contracts. This league is full of OAs that are good OHL players.

Pro player all day long. I’ve watched this kid in Windsor and he’s a stud. Gritty 200’ players. but, I’m guessing you look more at the stats than anything else.

Play him in NB in a 7 game series and you’ll realize what he adds to a an already deep lineup. You might get the chance.
