Confirmed Trade: [OTT/SJS] Fabian Zetterlund, Tristen Robins, and 4th round pick for Zack Ostapchuk, Noah Gregor, 2025 2nd round pick

A lot of San Jose's good players are smaller players.

Celebrini, Smith, Zetterlund, Eklund.

A player like Ostapchuk who can bring a lot outside of offense is a rarer player to find who brings that AND can play the game.
Celebrini isn’t small or soft, and Will Smith is only 19 and will get stronger. Plus theres no guarantee Ostapchuk is anything valuable at the NHL level.

Ostapchuk is a solid player.

His production is low but he’s been on the 4th line a lot of the time and he’s been asked to play more of a physical / energy game.

Celebrini is 6ft. He's going to be thick, but you don't want him constantly having to go against big centres and big shutdown dmen because he's the biggest you got.

They took a risk and it may not pan out.

Or maybe they didn't care much for what he was asking for his next contract and moved on for the best they could get, or the best to them

Only 1 point for Zetterlund in Ottawa so far in 11 games, is he not a good fit with this team or does the box score not tell the whole story here?
He’s been playing with Stutzle for the last few games and has been getting several point blank chances every game. He’s been extremely snakebitten, hopefully they start going in.

The first 4 games or so he was on the 4th line because Green didn’t want to mess with the chemistry from the winning streak so not much happened with him there.

While on the 4th line, he had little ice time and no help. On the 1st, he's looked reasonably good but has been snakebitten.

He played the first 6-7 games on the 4th line beside Gaudette and Highmore, two terrible players who wouldn't be in the NHL if not for the fact they previously played for Green in Vancouver and he plays favorites.

The team went on a big win streak when he was acquired so Green didn't want to change the lines and mess up the chemistry. He's only played the last 4-5 games in the top 9, and has looked pretty good. Has had a lot of scoring opportunities, just failed to finish them off.

As others have stated, he started on our trash 4th line through no fault of his own. Since moving into the top 9, he has looked quite good.

Heavy forechecker and strong on the puck, goes to the right areas to get chances.... I expect him to be our 5th highest-scoring forward next season, behind Stu, Tkachuk, Batherson and Cozens. Despite the stats, he has looked better than I expected. Not a passenger at all and while he isnt gonna score with AHLers in limited minutes, he doesn't look like a guy who is super reliant on others to create chances.

He could easily have 5 primary points if the bounces went a bit differently.

Who did he kick out of top 9,?

Amadio for now. Amadio has been really excellent for us, especially lately, but he is more able to play his game on the 4th line than Zetterlund (and not really a top 6 option. Tkachuk has replaced Amadio on his former line (with Pinto-Greig) while Zetterlund has slid into his place on line 1

I wouldn't be shocked to see the floodgates open before he end of the season and Zetterlund getting on a little run. As others have mentioned, the opportunities have been there the last few games, the Sens just have trouble scoring 5 on 5 and FZ hasn't cracked the top PP unit.

Somehow Ostapchuk is dragging down the Sharks 4th line. Can you imagine being 21 and already making Goodrow look worse than he is?

Honestly he shouldn't be anywhere near an NHL roster this year. He was doing the same in Ottawa.

San Jose might try and shoehorn him into the NHL to play a specific role, but imo that's going to stunt his growth. I think he needs at least a year+ in the AHL and should be fighting for a spot in 2026-27.

He only played in Ottawa because of a serious lack of depth, I'm not sure if that's what going on for the Sharks as well.

He wasn't quite ready for NHL duties in Ottawa, so it shouldn't surprise anyone he's not excelling on the 4th line in San Jose.

He got rushed to the league due to his size, speed and solid defensive game, as the Sens don't have a lot of good forward depth after years of wasting draft picks and prospects in dumb trades.

Needs to spend more time in the AHL working on his game with the puck, otherwise he's destined to be a 4th liner and nothing more.

If there’s one thing the sharks have in abundance it’s underwhelming 4th liners.

Use that to keep him in the top 6 in the AHL for the next 1+ season

After that you might have a solid #3C.
That's what Grier keeps telling us. For the most part the "grinders" he's brought in during his tenure have been... shall we say, less than stellar? Kunin, Goodrow, Giles, Osta, Lindblom, Dellandrea, Kostin, Kovalenko... it never ends.

I bet Zetterlund gets it going once he settles in. He disappointed most of last season but seemed to come into his own this season. Interesting to see him get time on the 1st line. He really is more of a quality 3rd liner who can play up and not look too out of place, but he was in a position above his actual ability in the Sharks due to the lack of depth. Someone above suggested he will be a 30/30 player in the future, but I think that is a bit optimistic (20/20 or 25/25 more likely).

Ostapchuk has shown some flashes of play that suggest a path to being a 3C, but it is so hard to gauge his game in isolation because the Sharks’ bottom 6 is unmitigated garbage. He has made a couple of nice passes off the rush or across the crease that would have ended up in the back of the net with competent linemates, showing a bit more IQ than most 4th liners possess.
