Context:
It's early June 2025. In Ottawa, after missing the playoffs yet again, Brady Tkachuk has indicated to Steve Staios that he'd prefer to be moved to an American market. In Minnesota, Kirill Kaprizov has told the Wild the he's not ready to negotiate a long-term extension and wants to see how the year plays out. In New York, Chris Drury is under the gun to shake things up and add a new face of the franchise.

A guy on the internet suggests the following trade:

To Minnesota: Brady Tkachuk, Josh Norris, K'Andre Miller
To Ottawa: Alexis Lafreniere, Joel Eriksson-Ek
To NYR: Kirill Kaprizov

Breakdown:

Ottawa trades: Brady Tkachuk, Josh Norris ($16.1M)
Ottawa gets: Alexis Lafreniere, Joel Eriksson-Ek ($12.7M)
The Sens get a French-Canadian top 6 winger and a big, steady 2nd line C to insulate Stützle.

Minnesota trades: Joel Eriksson-Ek, Kirill Kaprizov ($14.25M)
Minnesota gets: Brady Tkachuk, Josh Norris, K'Andre Miller ($16.2M + will need to extend Miller)
Captain America Guerin gets 3 Americans.

NYR trade: Alexis Lafreniere, K'Andre Miller ($7.45M)
NYR get: Kirill Kaprizov ($9M))
The Rangers get Shesterkin another buddy.

Picks could be added to offset some valuable but I didn't want to get into that.

Who says no, who says yes?

Ottawa says no.

Minnesota says Hell No. Kaprizov is Untouchable and wild aren't trading their Franchise player even for Brady! Wild have no need for Brady without Kaprizov. Eriksson ek isn't getting traded so wild can take on a more expesnsive C. People need to stop Trading Kaprizov and Ek from wild

I really hope you aren't a Sens fan because what is this

I am, and in the event that Tkachuk wants out (which I specified as being the reason they'd be moving him), I think it'd be a good trade for Ottawa.

You'd get:
• A 23 year old winger who can replace some of Tkachuk's offense and is a name that fans will recognize. I think Lafreniere could be a 65-75 point guy in a new environment, and he's signed for 7 more seasons so you know what you'll be paying for a while.
• A 28 year old two-way centerman who can take the primary defensive assignments while still putting up ~60 points. He's a fairly sizeable upgrade on Norris (IMO) and makes $5.25M for 4 more years, which is a bargain.
• You free up ~$4M in cap space to address other needs.

It's the type of trade that reshapes the look of the team but keeps it competitive and allows you to make so other additions in the summer (you could, for example, also go after a guy like Ehlers in free-agency).

Rangers give up Lafreniere and Miller for a guy who's struggled to stay healthy over the last couple years and might walk in a year? He's the best player in the trade by a decent margin, but that's A LOT to give up for potentially a single year of Kaprizov. I'd pass personally unless he had expressed significant interest in signing with NYR.

Rangers never have problems with resigning Russians.

Its early June 2025, Brady Tkachuk is on the Jersey shore in his brand new built oceanfront house with his NJ wife and baby. He wants out and Newark is only and hour from the shore. No third parties needed, what is the ask from Jersey?
EDIT- Bradys cousin (our General Manager, Tommy Fitz is at the shorehouse visiting prior to the trade!)

The upgrade from Norris to JEE (and this IS an upgrade, JEE is a completely different class of defensive presence even if their offensive games grade out similarly over time…plus he’s on a beautiful contract) - still doesn’t make the downgrade of Brady to Laf even remotely palatable if I’m a Sens fan.

Kirill Kaprizov has told the Wild the he's not ready to negotiate a long-term extension and wants to see how the year plays out.
Of course he isn't ready. With the cap skyrocketing, waiting until next year will probably be worth at least a million/yr above what he'd be offered now on the new one (granted he's risking a major injury & no contract after this one but that's not likely to happen).

...what you've just posted is a CRIME against Ottawa...for shame!!... :biglaugh:

If Brady Tkachuk wants out, why is he going to Minnesota?
Feels like all 3 teams can deal with just 1 team instead of a 3 way trade. In your scenario, Brady wants to specifically go to the Wild and Kaprizov wants to specifically go to NYR.
