Minnesota
OTT Chris Tierney
MIN Victor Rask

Two guys who are struggling but both are similar age, size, production this year as well as contracts. Not really an upgrade for the wild but maybe Tierney can regain some production. On the other hand would Ottawa do this or are they purely looking for draft capital/younger players?

Struggling to think of a reason why to make this trade for either team.

Behind you, look out
what about adding a late round pick from MIN like a 6th or 7th

If you were just taking Tierney, a pick like a 4th could probably do it.

If you want Ottawa taking salary back, you need to upgrade the pick. Our owner is so broke the office workers have to clean the office themselves. We dont have hot water. One usher is responsible for 4 sections.

Ottawa and Minnesota have been scouting each other a lot lately and the Wild are in need for a bottom 6 center with no term left (UFA).
Minnesota needs centers as they are shallow at that position heading down the stretch and Ottawa is probably going to want picks in return and shouldn’t won’t be looking to add roster players as Dorian will probably want to give a few of the younger prospects a look towards the end of Ottawa’s season.

Victor Rask can be sent to the minors until after the deadline to give the Wild a little more cap space if needed as Rask recently cleared waivers.

Tierney would also help take the pressure off Minnesota’s PK as that has been an appealing part of Tierney’s game in the past and Chris was a decent faceoff player but hasn’t been good at the dot for the last season and a half with Ottawa, going to a contender could help turn around Tierney’s game as his ice time is way down this season.

A 4th or 5th round pick might get Tierney from Ottawa but if the Sens retain then the value could change.

Have they been scouting each other a lot? There was the Habs/Wild game that Dorion and McGuire were at, but beyond that I haven't heard anything about the teams scouting each other.

Minnesota's actually got plenty of bottom-6 centers: Gaudreau, Sturm, Rask and Dewar on the team right now; Bjugstad's hurt, but he'll be back in the mix eventually. They could use an upgrade on Gaudreau on the Fiala/Boldy line, but Tierney isn't that.

Dreger was the one that reported that the Sens and Wild have been scouting each other.

After Hartman and E Ek the depth kinda thins out, Gaudreau has spent most of his career in the minors and was somewhat of an unknown prior to last season with Pittsburgh, Rask probably won’t be on the roster if Minnesota acquires a roster player to gain more deadline cap space and is nothing more then a 4th line/13th forward, Sturm is relatively unproven with minimal ice time but does have a few playoff games under his belt and Bjugstad is currently injured and is frail at this stage of his career and has been used mostly as a RW.

Dewar only has 14 games in his career and is better suited as a LWer at this stage in his young career since he has been getting caved at the faceoff dot in January, I don’t see that getting any better for Dewar in May or June but I do like Dewar’s defensive prowess as he plays a good 2-way game for an inexperienced pro going thru short seasons prior to this season.

The Wild are going to need players down the middle as injuries due happen down the stretch and in the playoffs so losing any one or two of Minnesota centers really hurts there chances at making a deep run in the playoffs. Tierney also brings playoff experience as he went to the SC finals with San Jose.

I don't think it's impossible. It just doesn't make a lot of sense to throw picks away on Tierney when it doesn't really address the team's biggest needs. Seems more like Dreger connecting dots based on Ottawa's brass taking in a Wild game.

What is Minnesota’s biggest need?

It wouldn’t come as a surprise if Guerin acquired a bottom 6 center with little to no term for a playoff run as I believed that was one of Minnesota’s needs but don’t follow the Wild as a fan of theirs so I would refer to the Minnesota Wild fans as to their team needs as an outsider.

A center that compliments Fiala and Boldy better than Gaudreau does, which is to say a more skilled one.

This feels like a potential minefield. I can obviously see the desire to "upgrade" with a more skilled Center there. But at the same time...what they're doing is kind of working. If you were getting a bona fide, clear cut, all-around upgrade at Center, that would obviously be desirable. But when you start rummaging around the bargain bin for someone "more skilled" but still very cheaply available, they're going to come with warts and holes in their game. That kind of lateral shuffling attempt can really upset the applecart, and end up being an actual downgrade...even if it seems like an upgrade in skill.

Just seems to me like Minnesota are probably better off ponying up a little more, to get somebody that's a little more of a firm upgrade than Tierney. I do see the appeal of bargain bin shopping given Minnesota's overall situation, and there's at least some reason to believe Tierney could be a good "change of scenery" candidate who could rebound a bit. But it's a real caveat emptor situation when you start trying to plug holes for basically nothing, on a roster that seems to be working alright as is.

What is the deal with colin white? Out the rest of the seaseon?
Ottawa might get Colin White back from shoulder surgery in March but that’s not a player Minnesota should be targeting.

White has too much term left and is coming off surgery.

Victor Rask is a UFA after this season. Ottawa will trade Tierney most likely for a late round pick as Tierney is also UFA at seasons end.
