Nonsense we haven't seen that dean leternaeu kid play yet he could be a stud.
I have watched him play. You see he plays for Boston College and you can actually watch those games.

In the couple games I watched him, the eye test matches the stats, which is 2a in 15 games - not an auspicious start.

That being said, even if he bust or booms the trade value of a draft pick is the value of the pick not the player taken. If I sell you my car for 10 dollars and then buy a winning lottery ticket with the money, the original deal is still shit.

The difference between Korpi + Kastelic and Ullmark is not a late first. Hell after last year Korpi + 1 for FC would be correct value.

Dean leternaeu is a foot 6 foot 7 project who is raw and young he could be a bust or the next tage thompson. We dont know yet. Right now as it stands korpi and kastelic have been wonderful surprises this year with the bruins.

Ullmark just got better recently I dont see vezina numbers they pretty close to korpi right now and korpi is a backup.
Yes he seems healthy now after missing time in camp/exhibition, for an injury, then came back, then missed some games in Season for injury.
You’re correct is health does seem better recently.

Like you were told initially, Kasty is very inconsistent, like we’ve seen with his 3 points in the last 6 weeks.

Korpi could go on to win the Vezina and it would not affect how I see this trade.

Was never going to be the guy and the team was never going to trust him in the third period.

Good for him, hope he does well but I rather see him do well somewhere else than watch his play with the senators for more years.
Exactly. There was absolutely no way they could bring Korpse back to camp after how bad he was last year (and most of his career really). Don't think players would have taken new management seriously if they'd rolled him out as the starter again. He's not an NHL starter. He's doing better imo in large part because of the reduced role and expectations as the clear backup, although Swayman struggling is a curveball to that situation. Better for Korpse is basically the .901 he's rocking now.

Ironically, him being as bad as he was last year was a blessing. If he weren't quite the train wreck, it might not have required the urgency SS felt to fix it with him saying that was priority 1 heading in to the offseason.

So far, he's having a bounce back year which happens with guys after a bad season. The Sens tried him as their number one and it did not work. He had to be replaced. So win win for both organizations.

Jesus, your definition of wonderful is pretty f***ing low.

10 points in 30 games is nice I guess for Kastelic but Korpi's numbers are replacement level ish.

By the way, if you read my post you might understand why you should not use the player selected to ascertain the trade value of a draft pick.

However, while Letourneau may defy all odds and become the next Tage Thompson, I'll point out that Tage was nearly a point per game in both his draft and D+1 years. 2 points in 15 games in the NCAA is a really bad start if want to be a NHL star.

You haven’t watched any BC games, that’s weird.
I said he could be. 6 for 7 127 points in his career

Only 18 6 foot 7 lots of talent will see. Kastelic has been a fan favorite btw and korpi has saved our bacon keeping us in the playoff race. Fact.

Don't let them get to you.

I've seen so much salt about Kastelic being let go. People keep bringing up how Alfredsson yelled at him one game. Imagine losing a player on pace for 400 hits because your mascot assistant coach didn't like how hard he went. From what I understand happened, Kastelic showed him what was up. If you do a redraft, Kastelic easily would go in the first of his draft year. So to get both him, Deaner, and Korpisalo who was previously traded for a 1st round pick, that's three firsts coming back to Boston for a goalie who I don't think has played more than 35 games in a season and is more interested in dog walking than hockey.

People in this thread have to exaggerate statistics and outright make things up to justify the great swindling of June 24th.

I do that trade blindfolded having scotch and eggs for breakfast.

Letourneau is playing very shitty and not putting up points in his D+1 year. Not many comparable who turned that around. He might but looking more and more like a bust.

Kastelic is a good guy and a nice 4th line centre but that is like a bottom 5 valued position. Being a fan favourite often has little to do with value. Also, lots of fans are dumb.

Korpi's running a .901 Sv%. While that is surprising, due to him not being a good goalie generally, it is not that amazing and slightly below average.

Facts and reason

.901 Sv% is not that high a bounce and Korpi has lots of time to let his true colors shine.

Korpisalo has been a wonderful surprise? He has a 0.901 save % and 0 GSAA even though he plays backup minutes and hasn't faced a playoff team since October.

Sure, but is he Joonas Korpisalo or Mark Kastelic tremendous?
I think he's better than Korpisalo. Not sure about Kastelic. I actually think its fitting that that Kastelic was traded to Boston, because I'm not sure we've seen this blend of offensive touch and physicality since Cam Neely was in his prime. Maybe prime Lindros. I'm actually really happy for Boston fans because Neely's career was cut short, and now they have a similar style of player to root for.

After educating myself through reading the wizard-mind takes on hfboards, I'd like to set a few things straight...

Linus Ullmark stinks, and his contract is brutal. The 8 games he struggled following an injury is the true sample size that shows what he is. Yeah, he was a good goalie for 7 years, but that doesn't matter. And his current insanely hot stretch of 7 games is a fluke, he'll soon revert to his usual self, which was the 8 games of struggle.

Korpisalo is one of the best goalies in the NHL. His good play for 1 month is the most important sample size. Ignore his 7 year career of inconsistency and mediocrity, that's what we call a small sample size. And his .901 is actually better than Ullmark's .910, because Ullmark is once again benefitting from a great defensive team, what the Ottawa Senators are known for.

Mark Kastelic may be on the 4th line, but he is an ascending star. Sure, he has 0 goals 3 assists in his last 20 games, but that's a small sample size. As is his inconsistent play with the Sens. He'll soon revert to his typical 7 points in 11 games form of October.

Conclusion: brutal trade by the Sens. Ullmark's luck will soon run out, and he'll be back to his usually crappy self. Kastelic and Korpisalo would have guaranteed a 100 point season from the Sens.

To be fair and unsarcastic for a moment, I still believe in Jeremy Swayman. He was outstanding for the last 2 years. The insane pressure after holding out and signing a huge contract is giving him problems. I guarantee he returns to form and has good seasons in most of his contract, whether he returns to form this year or next year.
