Cozens is definitely not a bruiser. He has hit more this season, but they're more like check the box hits than aggressive hits. If you're expecting a fearless player who skates around and imposes himself physically all over the ice, you're going to be disappointed. He's more of a speed, transition puck carrier with a good, but inconsistent shot.

Could any sens fans give a brief synopsis of Norris' injury history?
meh, I don't know, I suppose he is somewhere between bruiser and what you describe...perhaps bruiser was not the best term.

in any case those hits do matter even if they are just slight contact... or check box hits as you say, they can change the play.

I think he wants to play more physical however that really was not the sabres

Sure those checks matter, but look at the game today. He's got a ton of hits, but if you didn't know the stats you probably wouldn't say he's been a physical force. That is typical of him.

Norris is better, but has been hurt more than he's played.

However, this season he has been durable, great on the draw and physical. Lacks some 5 on 5 production, though.

Cozens is bigger, hes a good player in his own right. Wicked shot and he's got some wheels.

Why TSN kept talking like Cozens was going to take the load off of Brady from fighting is bizarre.

Like a week ago Cozens lost to Kotkaniemi. He's a big boy who can hold people from getting at someone, but if they acquired him to bring that toughness, they misjudged and I'm pretty sure that's just TSN's terrible analysts.

Gilbert is the guy who can do that, but will he even play every game ? Or just swap with another dman should they play a team that is tougher ?

Sens got some draft capital to add to their prospect pool, or for more team acquisitions.

Too long; didn't read i like it for both teams and looks like a win-win right now
cozens does NOT have a wicked shot. The most common play you see him make is blasting a high shot with no chance of a rebound, and missing the net by 3 feet

- Career high 9 hits.
- A primary assist on the 3-2 goal that brought the Sens back in the game.
- 55.6% in the faceoffs dot.
- On both the PP and PK.
- Engaged and dangerous all game. Did everything from net front presence to hard defensive zone back checks.

Not too shabby for a debut.

I like Cozens so far! Very good debut, set up an important goal in the 3rd, even strength point, which Norris struggles to get. Buzzing around with energy, 9 hits. Interesting that the Sens played him on the PP and PK.

Anyone that said Brady T would suck because his pal was traded is an idiot. 1st star, 2 goals, was nearly speechless with joy being interviewed on the bench after the game as the fans chanted his name. He's clearly fired up from being in a playoff race.

Buffalo got bent over on this trade. Lol
Buffalo fans just aren’t smart.
Don’t trust what they say. This has proven over years and years here. They don’t know hockey.
Buffalo has very knowledgeable fans for the most part. Fans on hfboards don't represent a fanbase, they are a tiny minority. Half of their fans live between Hamilton and Niagara Falls, ON, and played hockey growing up. And they are loyal as it gets.

I don’t understand this trade for buffalo. I like Norris a lot but the injury history and contract to me makes him less valuable than Cozens.

I thought the Senators won this deal pretty handily. They acquired the better player, if Cozens can rediscover his form and got a 2nd round pick thrown in. Also the generally more durable seeming player.

However, upon learning that Cozens has been abusing "alot", hitting it frequently...i'm not so sure this doesn't upset the balance of the trade.

Poor alot.

Was a huge Cozens fan in his draft year and first 2 years.Granato had them playing pond hockey which suited Cozens greatly. He was aggressive went hard to the net had a nice shot was captain material. The next year he did a 180 as Granato tried a structured system and Cozens was absolutely lost.It was tough to watch actually. Throw in the beat down he took and it went downhill from there.I actually never saw a player with his talent level and work ethic do such a 180.I know they talked about his low IQ which was evident in a structured system but it was almost like he was on heavy drugs or a severe concussion.I really felt for him it was so bad.Why the Sabres never threw him on the wing is a mystery. The last month however he seemed to pick it up especially 5 on 5 he looked like his old self not completely but was getting there.i think if Ottawa throws him on the wing he can and will get back to 30 goals.Buffalo got the better player by a long shot but Norris has his issues mainly with health.Norris doesn't get traded for Cozens if health wasn't a concern. Hopefully Norris stays healthy and Cozens continues his recently fine play and it's a win win for both teams.

Steve Bernier once scored 4 goals in his Sabres debut after being traded from the sharks. Maybe hold your horses a bit after 1 game… also even if cozens plays better up there none of the things that you’ve heard from Sabre fans are false. He has been horrible. The last two years and literally stood and watched our captain get his head beaten just last game.

If you don’t believe the fans on here… Go listen to a couple team podcasts where it’s pretty universal that folks understand why we gave you a second because everyone thinks that Norris is the better player

You can check out locked on Sabres, wgr, after the whistle etc….

Saying Norris is “the better player” is a little presumptive imo. Norris is definitely the player who requires less coaching, though. He is a very good systems player and if you pair him with a good playmaker and a good forechecker, he can take care of the rest. For a team like Buffalo that struggles with structure and consistency, I definitely see the appeal of Josh Norris. Plus he is well above average on both special teams.

They both bring very different things. I thini if Norris can stay healthy he can be a very important player for you guys.

I have no idea if he’s better or not as I haven’t watched him play at all but I can tell you that the local hockey media here who have watched both feel this way. They have framed it as cozens bring available but not playing up to par and Norris being the opposite with more consistent production and much better defense.

My whole point was the post I responded to was knocking Sabres fans as out to lunch and I think that narrative is false - and pointed to it’s not just fans who feel cozens has been extremely poor.

Yep. And I think Matt Moulson scored 2 goals in his Sabres debut after the trade deadline. Adrenaline is a hell of a thing.
