On Cozens, it's important to note that he'll have much more insulation at C with the Senators than he did in Buffalo.

Stützle will continue getting the prime minutes against the other team's top D pairings.
Pinto will take on the key defensive assignments.
Cozens will get the softer matchups where he can hopefully generate some secondary offense.

It's a much different setup for him, and hopefully he can do well in that role.

What support at C did he have over his career in Buffalo? Mittlestadt? Kulich? Krebs? Girgensons? That's not much.

I agree with this. I think Cozens will be in a better place and I do hope he turns it around. I still think he shouldn't be a Center because he just isn't great with the puck on his stick.

He still is young..I think he will turn it around.. Buffalo just can't really wait for all it's young talent to mature and develop.

I really liked Cozens. His recent activity or lack of it is the reason why they decided to trade him imo. It was not his poor statistics.

Skated right past several scrums so he would not need to get involved. Unacceptable. He really should be a rough and tumble mix it up and go to dirty areas kind of player

His strength is not in playmaking, it was in drawing the opponents to him so he could pass to open teammates. Or making the tough shot in a dirty area. Sabres not clicking despite the talent. And not playing as a team nor sticking up for each other. I guess Cozens is believed to be the poster child for that.

He should do well in ottawa

Have not followed Norris. Really hope he turns out to be a good add.

Just personally don’t feel like this is a move that will help the Sabres. I am not in the locker room however so maybe it is to address the team chemistry.

I like the senators to make the playoffs. Good luck and tell us what it’s like

Norris is the best player in the deal right now and jbd is better than Gilbert.
But this shake up should work out well for Ottawa.

Tkachuk-Cozens-Batherson
Zetterlund-Stutzle-Giroux
Perron-Pinto-Amadio
Greig-Gaudette-MacEwen
Cousins(injured)

Looks pretty good. If cozens needs to slide over to the wing that can work too with pinto moving up and giroux down.

stuzle Is the type of player that I expected Cozens to become.

I think playing Pinto with Cozens on the wing would work out pretty well for you guys. Cozens is at his best when not tasked with too much to do defensively. You can either shelter him on a scoring line, like Buffalo failed to do successfully, or put him on the wing with a defensively sound centerman, like Pinto.

Good luck guys. I used to love Cozens. If I end up liking Norris half as much, it’ll be a big win.

Well the good news for Ottawa, I guess, is that Norris also wasn’t good with the puck on his stick. That’s why he had to be stapled to Batherson, who was always the primary puck handler on the line.

I’d be surprised if the Sens don’t start with Zetterlund - Cozens - Batherson. You have a puck carrying playmaking winger, a big C who can skate to the net, and a guy who can shoot and muck it up.

Plus Cozens and Batherson played on a line at the WC and were dynamite together.

Yeah.. this is why I am totally apathetic to this deal. I don't think Norris is the type of Center we need. Buffalo forwards are basically all shooters.. just like Norris. We need playmakers in the Center position.
Rasmus Dahlin is our best playmaker.

Just another example of Kevyn Adams not knowing how to build a roster.

Hopefully I'm wrong.

If Norris stays healthy you'll like him. He's defensively responsible, can pill penalties and wins faceoffs. His shot is lethal and he knows how to get open for the one timer. Plus he seems like a genuinely good dude.

The shoulder is a big concern. Every time he took a bump or left the bench the whole fanbase would hold its breath. And he's probably a bit overpaid. He's likely to be a 60-70 point, 35ish goal guy if healthy.

Great second line centre, if not a little overpaid. Another shoulder injury though and he might be finished.

Really hope he keeps it together!

Cozens as a 1C

What could go wrong?

Seems logical, Cozens is a bruiser, he hits alot so the desire to try him with Tkachuk will be too much to bury for the coaching staff...loads of options really. I do recall the chemistry between Cozens and Batherson in the WC.

2C then. Or like I said in my original post he can slide over to wing no problem. Pinto can be/will be a 2C
na, you dont trade for a guy like Cozens and play him on the wing in favor of Pinto at 2c... Cozens can be a dynamic centre.

IMO he has never been utilized correctly in Buffalo...

This whole narrative is so dumb.

These players weren't struggling on a personal level in Buffalo. Team wise? Yes. But they were all good in Buffalo outside of Montour. And Montour popped off for one year in Florida and has since came back down to Earth. Montours struggles can probably be attributed to Buffalo using him on his off-hand.

Ryan O'Reilly time in Buffalo was consistent with his entire career except for one season in St Louis.

Eichel and Reinhart certainly didn't struggle here. Did they get better? Absolutely like most players do as they enter their prime.

Dumb narrative that was probably formed on Sabres HF Boards and Sabres Twitter.

It's one of the stupidest takes I've seen on this site and that says something.

As someone who's been pulling for the "find a center and move Cozens over" move, that seems ideal. His assets as a forechecker and volume shooter are so much easier to leverage if he's a wing.

I thought the Senators won this deal pretty handily. They acquired the better player, if Cozens can rediscover his form and got a 2nd round pick thrown in. Also the generally more durable seeming player.

However, upon learning that Cozens has been abusing "alot", hitting it frequently...i'm not so sure this doesn't upset the balance of the trade.

Poor alot.

Cozens is definitely not a bruiser. He has hit more this season, but they're more like check the box hits than aggressive hits. If you're expecting a fearless player who skates around and imposes himself physically all over the ice, you're going to be disappointed. He's more of a speed, transition puck carrier with a good, but inconsistent shot.

Could any sens fans give a brief synopsis of Norris' injury history?

And he is a glass body and Cozens isn't. Unless Cozens is a bad apple the Sabres lose.
