This guy is so f***ing far and away this teams best player its not even close.

He's so much btter than Matthews and Nylander right now, its embarrassing. Only guy that looks like. SUPERSTAR.

If you still think matthews is better, please watch the sport properly.

The gap is Clear. Obvious. And BIG.

In regards to contract, they signed two months apart, with Marner taking around 1.5 million more for the same length. They had essentially the same points per game, with Rantanen scoring more goals and doing better in the playoffs.
Through their pre-signing periods, Marner had a better points per game and primary points per game, and even that doesn't capture the true offensive gap, as Rantanen's production was a bit of a mirage driven by high EN points and being on a team that got a lot of PP time. Those aren't really things that are representative of the player, that teams would be paying for.
Why would you say Marner is superior offensively?
Because he produces at a higher rate in each game state and overall.
Because nothing else f***ing matters!
I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion, but there's more to a player's impact.

He is the teams best player and leading scorer this year.

Yes he is a superstar, unless you’re willfully ignorant, he is a runaway leader in the team in points.

What is actually wrong with you people, hating on the best player on the team you support?

I honestly do not get it.

It’d be something else if Mitch ends up going to open market and signs with Carolina. Ooof. Public Enemy no.1

That’s crazy

Still wouldn’t pay him over 12

Let’s not act totally clueless here

His criticism (and sometimes irrational hatred) stems from the playoffs where he becomes an invisible.

He could have 100 points right now and gunning for the art Ross and I’d still be skeptical if he can put it together in the playoffs. He hasn’t shown whether or not he can play at a good level in a tight checking atmosphere like the playoffs.

He is hated for the same reason people didnt like Chris Paul or James harden in the NBA. Players who can’t show up in the big moments and always fall short. He’s hated the same way Joe Thornton or Patrick marleau are, with chokers labeled and mentioned anytime the players are brought up. Winning matters, and Marner (+ rest of them) haven’t done it.

On another note, I saw your other post on people harassing him in public and that’s loser behaviour and that stuff should be kept at the rink, but when negotiations go like they did and results are not delivered, people act stupid and crazy.

He’s over $14M in Toronto with term.

Taxes considered.

But the fanbase is way too toxic so he’s going to leave anyway.

Dubas shouldn’t have given the NMC, we could have just got Rantanen had the last GM not caved to a player off an ELC.
That’s an awful deal

He gets 12M + ad revenue he could only dream of on any other team

Moreover he gets paid in USD as a Canadian, so his money is more valued here

If he wants to leave that’s fine, but it won’t be because 12M is too little

He played a pivotal role in Team Canadas win and the Mem in junior hockey.

He has a track record of winning.

I know everyone likes a scapegoat but this guy is an absolute stud on all sides of the puck, and in spite of playing wing probably plays an overall impact of some of the top centers in the league.

And gets harassed by fans walking his dog at a park by his house and a restaurant by his cottage.

What’s not to love with guys like you hounding him?

I honestly consider you Marner jockey boys like the Swifties of the hockey world.

You’re just so obsessed.

Sure. As fans we have rights too & won’t be extorted into compliance because someone feels slighted due to commentary on their performance.
No, there is/will be nothing for fans to comply with. Who feels slighted by your or anyone's commetary on performance?

See how you had to go back almost a decade to show a “track record of winning”

Just look at the numbers man, he’s sub ppg in the playoffs which are lower than any of his comparables, he wants money close to draisaitl and Mcdavid level, but gives us nearly half the production in the playoffs, but your rebuttal to this willl be “but he’s good and gets bullied so it’s not his fault”

If you think it’s just him being “picked on” clearly you haven’t been paying attention this season, Matthews has been under a ton of heat too. As has Rielly, and to a lesser extent tavares.

Firstly, i stated doing that stuff is not good human behaviour, but i guess you glossed over it

Please do go back and show me where I’ve “hounding him”, I said the team shouldn’t pay him more than 12M, he’s not a better player than rantanen and he’s definitely not getting more than Matthews, and taxes are a lame excuse.

Your rebuttal to anything I said was just saying “I’m obsessed” which doesn’t even address the points, I don’t even get what you are here to do tbh. Garner sympathy points for Marner?

It sounds like you are more obsessed with how others think of him.

The Leafs haven't won. The 4 nations was last month, but sure, the Mem Cup was like a decade ago.

I believe the highest level of Team Canada just won their most recent championship off the pass of Mitch Marner not two weeks ago.

You’re saying a decade.

Not sure what rock you’ve been under but we’re just one sentence into your post and you’re not getting basic fundamental facts correct.

I don’t believe that either of those players have been receiving the type of abuse Marner has.

I also know what kind of player Marner is and he’s a two way stud that puts up 100+ points every year (at least on the Leafs) and will always care about winning. It’s not like he doesn’t care and a lot of his issues are simply because he knows how important the moment is and he’s pressing too much. You can’t say other players haven’t squeezed their sticks either, their numbers probably don’t look that great either.

If Marner isn’t scoring i still like what he’s doing on the ice defensively at least.

I'm glad the Leafs leaked the news about Marner not waiving.

There would be no benefit for Marner's camp to do so. Which means the Leafs are seriously contemplating moving on from him. There's only two reasons they would want that.

Marner's greedy asking for too much or he's a locker room cancer.

It's either one or the other there is no other choice. Although I suppose it could be both. It's probably both.

Marner's a good player but he's not some untouchable god.

Even though he thinks he is. Treliving came in here preaching accountability and Marner is head of the snake. He has zero heart, zero passion, zero compete, and couldn't win a puck battle to save his life.

I can't wait til he's gone.

Makes me happy they're not 100% set on re-signing him no matter what and will most likely let him show what he does in the playoffs before committing to anything.

So when was the memorial cup? Surely you know as you brought it up, it’s like you are willingly ignoring that part.

Between the memorial cup and 4 nations what did he do?

He’s a 100pt regular season player and a 70 point playoff performer, but it’s ok you don’t mind his playoff production nosediving, and value his regular season points higher than them.

Marners biggest issue isn’t just “gripping his stick” it’s avoiding contact and going down low like the plague. He has always settled for the point shots and just playing F3. It hasn’t worked and he hasn’t adapted.

Funnily enough he actually started having success when he strayed away from it. He was pretty awful in the 2nd game at the 4 nations when he played his typical style, but in the finals he didn’t. He attacked open space on the Bennett goal, forcing the dman into a bad situation and made a nice pass. He also operated from the boards nicely, picking the puck up and finding Mcdavid open for the winner. If he played every playoff series like he played that finals, his stats would back up his “play” and contract. Instead we get a wannabe Quinn Hughes who doesn’t want to battle down low, or even go near the net.

I also never said he doesn’t cares, and infact probably does care too much. That doesn’t make it any better, it’s just an excuse being used here. Letting your emotions get the better of you is just as bad as not having any at all.

Marner is paid to score, no forward in the history of the nhl has, is or ever will be plaid as much as him to play defence. He needs to produce at a high level, especially in the playoffs

Ok. If fan interactions are causing him to want out…. Then leave.

No one is begging him to stay. I like the player. I’m happy if he signs. But if he wants out. Why not leave last year. Why not take an offer and work with Brad now?

Where do you want to go Mitch? Not Carolina. Ok. Where Vegas?

Sure. Instead of spending assets on Carlo and Laughton let’s try to get a c and rhd from Vegas.

Want to go to la. Ok let’s get Clarke and like fiala or something.

He has the NMC. He could ask out at any time. Why have a kid here when you could have been settled

He isn't a tier 1 star.

Mack McDavid Drai Crosby Ovi and even Kucherov etc pretty much any 130pts or better. Marner hasn't hit 100 or won any awards. Hard to sell him as a Drai comparable

Is it just me or did he seem emotional when answering those questions? Might be reading into it a little too much…

You can tell the pressure is clearly getting to him man. He probably loves it here, it’s not a nice feeling when eve try one wants you gone but you want to win here. I feel bad but he and his agent created this for themselves. It’s shitty to see cause at the end of the day Marner is still a human, seems like a nice guy, just played his cards wrong the last time around. Will not be surprised if he leaves now.
