Should I be pleased as an Ottawa fan? I don't really know what to think.
I don't think this is a clear win one way or the other. Norris is obviously more of an injury risk, but I, for one, am happy not to have to watch Cozens any more and hope he comes around. He's been pretty bad for 2 years now. I'm not sure he ever will figure it out, but if he does, you have a good player for a long time.

"Norris has been a reproductive player" lol did he mean to say "really productive"?
Listen, if the guy is injured, we can at least put him out to stud to breed new hockey players. That is value.

As for the potential trade, it will be very interesting to see Cozens in a new role. He is built like a really good hockey player and has a solid motor, but his hockey IQ is terrible. He has looked incredible in short bursts (World Championships), and he has performed well in certain roles (including a few games as a shutdown center), but those times have long since past.

A lot of people thought he would fair best on the wing, but we never tried that because of dogshit coaching. I think Buffalo had to trade him, as his value is going to keep diminishing in the blackhole that is this franchise. Get him a therapist and better coaching, see what happens.

There are reasons to trade Norris if you can get something of equivalent value: injury prone, high $8M salary for what he provides.
I get that, but even if Cozens plays at a slightly improved level to where he is now, I still would have rather explored options for a more defensive centre, if we NEEDED to trade Norris, and saved more cap for a better winger. I get that option might not have been available, but if that or a package for a clear upgrade couldn't get done, I would have kept Norris and revisited in the offseason. That being said, Cozens could really take off here so there is that angle, but looking at it today I'm neutral/slightly negative on this right now.

The reality of Cozens this year is that he's been outright bad: failing the eye test, failing the analytics test, removed from the top PP, removed from the PK altogether. Every player he plays with sees their numbers go down.

The concept of Cozens is a big, fast, competitive RH centre who can score 30 and match up against anybody.

Given the Sabres history, pretty likely the Sens will be getting the latter.

Dylan Cozens right now

Depending on what the + is, and depending on if Josh Norris can stay healthy this COULD be a step in the right direction going into next season for Buffalo.

If Norris is healthy Thompson and Norris is a GOOD 1/2 center combo.

If he's not healthy depending on what the + is this deal could be a disaster for Buffalo.

This is a HUGE risk for both teams because if Cozens doesn't work out and Norris does that's a disaster for Ottawa

Good riddance to Cozens. I wish him luck. He had a 1/2 of a good season playing with Quinn and Peterka, and they gave him that damn contract.

Hard to properly evaluate Cozens since Buffalo is top tier at making good players play like shit.

Doesn't mean Cozens will get much better in Ottawa, but players improving by getting out of the toxic hellhole that is Buffalo is in the cards.

I look at his stats everywhere else and they are excellent. A lot of Sabres players got traded and improved tremendously.
