There is basically zero interest in minor league sports in the US. Unless the NFL partners and subsidizes the league, there is almost not chance for these leagues to survive. Especially when college football does it for the NFL... for free.

I'll never understand designed plays that just leave a DE, the best DE on the team, unblocked.
If you're talking about the play that I think you're talking about - I believe it was Trautman (#82) who completely failed to pick up the block and went for a jog instead. I don't think he knew what the play was at all.

Oh yeah and in the first half specifically, the texans' O-line got away with kansas city chiefs level of holding out there.

It's was something to behold... I wonder how much that costs?

So the USFL/XFL "merger" amounts to them essentially abandoning both brand names (in favor of the UFL, which also failed twice), folding half of their collective teams, and losing 1/3 of their collective broadcast partners (keeping Disney and Fox, lost NBC Universal).

Should just quit while they're behind and fold the whole thing.
Oh that’s f***ing lame. They should at least keep the USFL name, that was at least proven to be successful before Donald Trump stumbled in and ruined everything.

Whatever. I still feel like the US has an appetite for spring football but it’s gonna take a massive investment and it’s gonna have to be done right.

The USFL was never successful. It was going to die with or without Trump, because none of the teams except for one team in year 1 (the 1983 Denver Gold) completely abandoned their business model and spent way too much money. It's convenient to blame Trump because he had the idiotic idea to try to go head to head with the NFL, but the reason he wanted that was because the league as a whole was unstable and unsustainable.

Should the Broncos reach for a QB in the draft?
In the NFL, you basically have to have a QB to contend and Russ doesn't look like the answer... so yeah. With how it normally seems to go though, they probably have to move into the top 10 to grab their preference of Nix/Daniels/Penix.

Tankathon has Nix in the second round, and Penix in the 20s

Most years the 3rd-5th QB selected is right around that 10 spot. Every year like clockwork, QBs move up the charts the closer to the draft things get (except 2022). This is how Josh Rosen and Justin Fields end up selected high.

A's and Royals lost more than the Rockies this past year only to pick behind them in the draft

Would've been nice to get 1st and that draft pool

General rule is QBs either get taken way too early or way too late. If you need a QB then you give up too many assets to get one of the coveted options. If you don't need a QB then you don't take one for many rounds and only as it gets later in the draft do you pick one. The whole Love and Rodgers situation really illustrated this dynamic. If you pick someone 4th round then it's just camp body fighting to be a backup. If you pick the same guy in the 2nd round then everyone thinks the veteran is on borrowed time. So if someone like Nix isnt picked by pick 40, he could fall to 100 or later because round after round teams don't need him immediately and don't want to piss off the starter. Some good value will come if they wait, you just can't say for sure who will be there then. I think the Raiders would take him if he's there round one but good luck ever predicting how the Raiders will draft.

Walterfootballs got -
Williams Top 5
Maye rd 1
Sanders rd 1
Jayden Daniels 1-2
McCarthy 1-2
Rattler 2-3
Penix 2-3
Ewers 2-3
Nix 2-4

Williams and Maye are gonna go 1-2 and then things will get interesting. I know Sanders said his kids are comin back but I’ll still be shocked if his QB stays. Ewers is likely staying so he’s probably off this board. If Sanders didn’t leave he could probably be top 10 next year instead of top 30 this year.

Next years crop of QBs is pretty weak overall compared to this year. If they don’t grab one this year in the 2nd or 3rd round I’ll be pretty bummed.

As someone that follows soccer, I laughed when people said fans/players wouldn't give a shit about NBA's in-season tournament.

I thought it was a hell of an idea personally. Breaks up the monotony of the season. But I follow soccer, too.

The In-Season Tournament has been quite fascinating. Crazy how they managed to schedule it in like they did and have all the games (except one) count toward the regular season.

Also, the crrrrrrrazy court designs were quite fun.

This whole NCAA thing is crazy

Honestly at this point they should just remove the 4-5 years of eligibility requirements and let guys play 6-8 years while finishing their degrees. Might as well just turn it into the NFL and steal the best years of these guys careers, because that’s basically where it’s going.

Now that NCAA players are eligible for payments, shouldn't they also be eligible to go straight to the AHL if they choose after hitting 18 years of age? I mean at this point it's simply jumping from one professional league to another, right?

Yeah it is kinda nuts. I’m all for kids getting their money while they can, but this is unsustainable. The team I cheer for just put out 300k for a very good player to stay… insane.

All 18 year olds are eligible today as long as they are not out of the CHL. Euros and USHL guys can jump over right away.

Same feelings here - I can’t stand Matt Rhule but his presser a few weeks ago was amazing. Basically said that it costs 1-2 million to get a QB via the portal. And said some guys were making 6-7. If they’re gonna pay players, they might as well just wear it proudly and attempt to replace the NFL.

I'm almost embarrassed to ask, but when did that change? I thought it was still something like 20 or 21 before they could play in the AHL.
