I'm almost embarrassed to ask, but when did that change? I thought it was still something like 20 or 21 before they could play in the AHL.
It has always been that way. There is an agreement between the CHL and AHL that limits those guys to 20. Since most stay in Europe, got to college or are CHL picks… we just don’t see it often. Avs do like their top Euros to play in the AHL early. Rants and Kaut both did in their +1.

Same feelings here - I can’t stand Matt Rhule but his presser a few weeks ago was amazing. Basically said that it costs 1-2 million to get a QB via the portal. And said some guys were making 6-7. If they’re gonna pay players, they might as well just wear it proudly and attempt to replace the NFL.
I think we will get there in a few years. I don’t believe there are many 6-7m guys… but 1-2m is certainly out there. Its insane.

Feels like the Nuggets only play the Clippers and the Rockets this year

Did not see that coming at all. Let's hope that he's just the first of many players that can come in and really get us back to what we were in the early '90s. A true powerhouse.

Meh, I'd rather the money go to players than just a handful of fat old dipshits in suits.

NCAA had ample opportunity to nip this in the bud, maybe even slow it down a little, they didn't, and now we're here. The new system is broken, but so was the old one, and frankly it's gonna have to break a lot more before anyone does anything about it.

And where it's most broken is with coaches. Nowhere was this more readily apparent than John Calipari, who landed the Memphis program in a lot of hot water, promptly skipped down the road and signed for millions in Kentucky, where, apart from one great tournament run, has been largely mediocre. Jimbo Fisher is gonna get over $70 million to not coach.

I don't have an issue with the players getting paid at all. I actually think it can improve the product... IE Nix probably goes to the NFL last year without NIL. Just the way it is now is unsustainable.

That's why I said it's gonna have to break further before it finally gets fixed.

As to HOW it gets fixed, I've no idea. But there will be a reckoning at some point.

Totally agree with ya - and it’s almost as though the NCAA isn’t even trying to step it backward. But rather they seem like they want to run forward with it and nuke everything the sport was in the past. It’s fascinating and sad to watch.

The NCAA doesn't really have anything they can do... NIL was opened up by the courts in basically saying you can't stop adults from earning a living with their own name and outside of a union/CBA there is no genie back in the bottle. The best they can do is open up some things to do it directly instead of through these 'independent' collectives so they and legislate it through there.

And that was their big mistake--instead of admitting the inevitable and trying to at least roll it out slowly and regulating it from there, they just fought tooth and nail until they got their asses handed to them in court and now it's too late.

Yeah they had their head in the sand and thought they could win... but now they can't control it. What is the worst part about it is, if they had just gone along with the union that tried to form, they could have negotiated something very manageable.

Kudos to the players though. I don't mind at all these 20 year old kids getting paid. I selfishly hope it helps college hockey... but I have a feeling it will probably hurt it as Penn State, Arizona State, Michigan, and Minnesota will probably rule the day. Maybe Boston in there too given their donor base.

Never seen Jokic play this badly in back to back games, his wrist must be f***ing up again or something.

700 million is such an insane number. I imagine that's more than a few NHL teams are worth. Makes me wonder what a cap in the MLB would look like.... Not that MLB players or owners even want that.
