Right here eating a little bit of crow. Today he was a bit more than just a game manager. Played well.

He still sucks and very much so washed.

But to his credit he isn't turning it over, which is allowing us to stay in games.

If the Broncos really want to take the next step they need a QB that can make throws and consistently read defenses. We miss a ton of plays because Russ can't make reads.

I'll eat crow on Russ/this season for sure. Payton gets the most credit tho IMO. He's completely turned it around and the RB's are putting in work. Russ is just managing the game very well. He's cooking compared to last year.

I do still think the future is ugly. I know you can do cap magic in the NFL and push the bill down the road but with the Wilson contract things should only get worse from here unless they pull off a crazy draft class. If the Broncos had a good game manager on a rookie contract/or even a cheaper vet than I'd be alot more excited for the long term. As of right now just gotta hope we make the playoffs and enjoy that.

agreed. This is where we are at. After realizing we will be not be close to the pick needed to draft a legit qb prospect its all about winning games and improving the culture around this team.

If a 50% competition ratio like 130 yards passing and a fumble is your expectation of good football and more than game manager then I think you need to reevaluate.

He could play better for sure. He did throw a pretty nice pass for the td to Trautman and did scramble for a nice td. Seemed to make some nice adjustments/ Audibles today.
I'm just playing devils advocate. I've been saying all year we need a much better qb than Russ to take it to the next level (i.e. compete with the Ravens/Chiefs of the AFC).

Payton's play calling leaves much to be desired from my POV, they both hold each other back.

There was also some NHL level officiating in that game today, some real BS calls against the Donks.

I do agree some of the calls in certain situations are head scratchers, but he was able to put together a playbook that washed up Russ can actually run.
