Could have landed a big fish

Chris Bassitt (3 yrs/$66M with Blue Jays)

Or these guys who were good potential targets of high ceiling with affordable costs

Noah Syndergaard (1 yr/$13M with Dodgers)
Ross Stripling (2 yrs/$25M with Giants)
Jose Quintana (2 yrs/$26M with Mets)

Those 4 combined cost only $130M
The 177m is over 7 years. Your choices equal 108m after 2 years. That is hardly equal.

There's something very wrong with this Bulls team.

Donovan is overrated and roster isn't that good

I never bought the hype and tried to warn guys around here that they were at best bubble team

Also White is disappointment and getting worse, Williams is bust, and Terry looks like wasted pick already

The Bull's drafting has been crap for a while

Also, team went in on vet pieces at great cost and those pieces are slowly on decline. Trading Wendell Carter Jr for Vucevic was a short-term boom, but Longterm the Bulls are going to regret it

The talent is absolutely there to be a top team in the east. They have beat a lot of good teams. They just play bad team basketball. I think there's either a locker room problem, or coaching is a major issue.

Really seems like Zach Lavine is the issue. Man got paid to be the guy and he looks at times to have no interest in engaging in on defense and even offense.

The main ball handlers, Lavine and DeRozan, are lazy on offense and lazy on defense. The Bulls would probably play better team basketball if one of those two was gone. They'd also probably be a better team if Lonzo would make a miraculous recovery and take over handling and distribution of the ball....but that's a pipe dream.

Lonzo would help immensely but his injury and his history with injuries was always cause of concern. Offensively both can take over obviously they both play iso ball without a actual point guard to run the offense. Defensively don’t mind derozan but Lavine can be ok on that end but just doesn’t try hard enough there

So there's some site that projects which MLB teams are linked to potential signibgscof thectop international crop of free agents...each MLB team has a certain amount they are allowed under the MLB CBA to spend on such international free agents...someveams have more in their pool of signibg bonus money otger teans have less and you can sell-off allocations from your pool available to other teams in trades...

The signing period for the 2023 crop of IFAs starts on Jan15th,2023 and goes till a date in December 2023...but tge bogvfish signings usually cone as soon as the window opens on Jan.15th.

As we know last year for the 2022 crop the White Sox signed bog fish Oscar Colas from Cuba and that was known they had him linkedvto them months before the signibg window opened.. Reports also come out early on links to tgeirvitgerr big fish signing from that crop.

This year...heard nothing about any White Sox links to a top ranked IFA.

So this site ranked the top 33 IFAs based on the expectation these 33 would all be given signing bonuses in excess of $2million....After these 33 on the list the remainder were expected to be given$1million down to very small amounts..

So teams havec 2 basic strategies...blow the signing pool amount on 1 or 2 big fish then hand out paltry amounts for any others from the remainder of their pool...OR spread out the pool money and sign more players from IFA list than you can if you blewctgecwad on 1 orc2 big fish.

So after ranking the top 33 based on exoected signibg bonus of $2milluon or more, this site had sone MLB teams blowing their wads for 2 of the top 33...othgers spendibg one 1 big fish from the top 33 ...and some eg.The Chicago White Sox linked to NONE of the top 33..

It appears the Sox are not lined to any of the top 33...that their strategy this year will be to spread out their bonus pool money to sign a greater amount of IFAs but not get any of
the most heralded who will be getting top dollar from other teams.

This is akin tot throwg sh*t on the wall to see if sonething sticks.

Would be better if Sox added a Colas or two...but it appears they are either trying for numbers at a lower price as the best way for adding depth to their pipeline (trusting their scouts can find some bargain gems) vs. going for home runs by spending big on a really top prospect or 2...Or thatv they would have gone big...but for sone reasons none of the big fish wanted to sign with them even if they offered the same money to a prospect IFA.

We shall see how it plays out for the Sox ...butc there has been zero "buzz" about the Sox and who they will sign as their was buzz labout the Sox and Colas last in last year's signibg period.

Usually Sox are linked to top Cuban prospects but not this year it seems.

Cubs were linked to 2 IFAs in that top 33 expected to sign for above $2mlion..(but more i the middle and later part of the top 33).

And of course the Yankees linked to a top 5 prospect in the IFA rankings by this site.

Sox opting for quantity over quality? That's reading out the bonus pool amount they have provides a better chance of finding a goidvokayer from the intermediate level than risking 1/3 to 2/3of your bonus pool on 1or 2 top ranked prizes whi have to pan out else you may get nothing from your signings .

Years later we will know which strategy paidcoff for teams with tgeir signings of 2023 IFAs.

You should post over at Soxtalk.com. There's a lot info over there and you can tell them 'Parkman' sent you.

I know the Sox were linked to the #41 prospect Luis Reyes. There's some other guys they supposedly are pegged to sign. Also, they've also been known to sell their international cap space, due to a cheapskate owner.

Will be interesting to see how this ends up

If another team walks away, he is not going to get close to what he wants, and it raises a lot of questions on what the Giants and now Mets are concerned about

Yes I did finally see an MLB top 50 ranking for the Top 50 2023 International Prospects and did see that they mentioned White Sox were interested in #41 ranked Prosoect Luis Reyes...a 17 yr old RHP who recently sprouted from a 5'10 kid to over 6'3 now with apporopriate weight gain too.. I wonder if the #41 ranking took that spurt into account or not because MLB only mentioned the sprouting in their description but did not change the height/wt.o fthe kid in their header highlights of this kid.

If tgeir ranking was only based on an earlier evaluation before he sprouted ,he may be a better value than just #41.

It remains to be seen if Sox actually sign him and for what amount.

I did see that Yankees (of course) supposedly preoatedv to offera $4million bonus to get the kid they want...White Sox apparently not going to blow that much of their pool money on justc1 target ...so White Sox not goibg to get a top t10 orctop 15 ranked prospect at lower price they will offer.

There were a few guys in the top 30 not linked to any team ...so maybe White Sox land one of these ranked in the 20s?

We shall see.

I did go over to soxtalk com as suggested above ....and noticed in a comment that apparently Sox had interest in 2 Cuban prospects who under some new rules were ineligible vto be signed in the 2023 signing period till July28th or after (till signing period ends in December).
So this may be Whitex Sox strategy...do not go for very high ranked international prospects in top 20 or top 30 who will cost a heftier signing bonus....target maybe 1 kid in the 40s ...but reserve some pool money for signings later in the 2023 year ...when other clubs have spent all their wads early...the advantage doing this is you get more time to evaluate prospects not signed who will playinh the spring and early summer who may emerge from higher development during this period and who may grow and get stronger during this extra time which makes them better prospects or who like the Cuban kids Sox May be following cannot be signed till Julyv28th?

Still while fans of other clubs go giddy over getting high or higher ranked prospects immediately or sooner after after the signing period opens January 25th,White Sox fans will not be as over the moon because White Sox did not blow their pool ead to land onevorvtwo of the highest ranked prospects..

It will be intersecting 4-5years after 2023 to see which strategy pays off most..
If the kid the Yankees are allegedly willing to give a $4million signing bonus to emerges as a superstar them that cost to get him will be well invested..

If none of the International kids the Sox sign in 2023 emerge as stars let alone we find a superstar, then obviously we chose the wrong pool money allocation strategy.

Only time will tell which strategy proves best.
