When did all the people from Georgia arrive? I was not anticipating a Braves home game today.

Atlanta's a lot like St Louis, in that regard. Their baseball team's the one they love and the one that's been far and away the most successful (altho in ATLs case only since the 90s). Other sports? Meh. Plus they've both lost teams (Hawks had been in st. Louis, who also lost Rams, atl lost flames and thrashers)
Since the Braves were owned and broadcasted on TBS back in the 90s they might have one of the largest fanbases across the nation so it's not uncommon for them to travel well (i.e. have lots of fans at away games).

Washington sure got a crap returned tho. It's now or never for the Suns. They're all in.
Beal has the only NTC in the NBA so he basically forced the Wizards hand with only "okaying" a trade to select destinations.

I was a huge braves fan growing up. David justice was my favorite baseball player and Fred McGriff. So many great players on those teams!

I mean the big three pitchers? Andruw Jones? They were a little before my time so I didn't get to watch them but just looking at their rosters I'm shocked they didn't do better.

Not sure if the WGN effect on the Cubs worked as much with TBS and the Braves. Cubs fans are everywhere. Almost like an invasive species. I have lived in 4 states and can cound the Braves fans I've encountered on one hand. Nor have I met many from Georgia in my 13 years here.

Braves don't even play their spring ball here. Caught me off guard to see half the ballpark filled with Braves.

Whatever the cause the accents in the park proved there is more Georgians here than I presumed.

it actually goes back to the 1970s. On cable TV in Florida WTBS-17 the superstation (and before that one Tampa station on UHF) was pretty much the only pro sports outside of the NFL... but the Braves were, shall we say, not great until Smoltz/Glavine/Avery and then Maddux all popped up on their roster at the same time, except for a brief glimmer of hope in Dale Murphy's peak years.

They're pretty much The Team of the South - pretty much all of the Carolinas, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana. Even north Florida (esp for the Deion Sanders connection). If you care about baseball there you root for the Braves.

You'll be able to watch all the Suns games if you have an antenna. I pray the Yotes find a deal like this.
They have a free app on just about every device with a screen too.

Edit: I’ll start my own broadcast. $10 a month. Live streamed from my Sony FX3 and a MacBook Pro. Stream will be available on YouTube. It’ll only be one camera angle, but you’ll get a 60 FPS feed and white balance will always be spot on.

Best part about the stream? No Tyson Nash and Todd Walsh. That right there is at least worth $6 a month.

Arizona Board of Regents meeting today, rumored to discuss potential move of one or both of University of Arizona and Arizona State University moving to the Big 12.

Brief background
- The PAC12 has been simply awful in monetizing athletic media rights. Falling down to #5 behind the Big Ten, SEC, ACC and Big 12
- Summer of 2022, USC and UCLA announce they will be leaving the PAC12 to join the Big Ten in 2024.
- Colorado announced last week they are leaving the PAC12 to join the Big 12, effective 2024.
- The PAC12 shared a new media rights proposal with Apple to the member schools today. Reports are it was not well received, with lower than sought rights payments.
- Rumors are the Big 12 is interested in adding Arizona, Arizona State and Utah. Combined with Colorado that would bring the Big 12 to 16 teams.
- Arizona board of regents scheduled a special meeting today with a closed session executive discussion expected to discuss a potential move. Note there is a single state-wide board of regents covering the three big state schools UofA, ASU and NAU.

Article:

Some conferences have been snobby about AAU status, so ASU hastily fixed it. Biggest sign of their intention to leave.

Pac-12 is dead regardless so best get out of Dodge.

Goodbye Sun Devil Stadium... hello Mountain America Stadium. Sigh.
It sucks anyway, but what i don't get is: if i'm reading this right, you have to live in Utah - and only 4 counties thereof - or be related to someone there to open an account. And there are only 8 branches in the Valley (and 2 in Las Vegas)...so...is this some sort of, like, LDS credit union or what? Are they planning on expanding their membership criteria?

Arizona Board of Regents (UA, ASU, NAU) scheduled another meeting for tomorrow. This one explicitly lists both UA and ASU athletics as the topic.

This BoR meeting like the meeting yesterday is “executive session” so no live stream of the discussion.
