The immensity of the universe is almost hilarious.

And to think that we will see almost 0% of it.

The laws of Science simply won't allow us to travel far within our own solar system let alone others.

Shame.

The hardest part for me at least, is comprehending so enormously big.

At times, it makes you feel so small and insignificant.

As we are. Ultimately nothing in the grand scale of things.

The stars burn more energy in seconds than we will in a million lifetimes. Our own galaxy is but nothing.

I honestly believe there is life out there similar to our own. How can there not be? It's just that we will never get to see it.

Is there life out there? Sure, there's got to be. Is it similar? Depends on the definition of 'similar'. We, as a species, have evolved so gradually and meticulously that I would expect life outside of our planet and galaxy to be different in many ways.

Oh absolutely. I think had we ever come into contact with said life, we wouldn't even know how to process it. It would be so vastly different from our own.

However, if the universe is as infinitely massive as some believe it to be, there should be something similar to us by default.

The human race started as a single cell that slowly adapted to its world. Whatever life is out there will be nothing like us. Not in the slightest. Even if we find planets with life, there is just a minuscule chance they have the equivalent of humans.

Like I said before, if the universe truly is infinite, then minuscule turns into absolute certainty.

Don't be ridiculous.

Disagree. Without humanity all the **** that goes on would mean nothing.

A sentient, evolved lifeform gives the glory of our universe meaning.

We're just as insignificant as a grain of sand in the scheme of things. Many people don't like hearing that they're life practically means nothing in the big picture, but in some ways, it's very relieving.

Ah, but now we are getting philosophical. The meaning of life debate.

Time to find our pessimists, optimists, existentialists and [insert term of choice here] ending with the suffix ist.

I'm going to have to agree with Bob's previous post here. If the universe is really infinite in size, then there are other life forms that are equally as 'great' as humans.

That's putting us at the center of the universe. Who says there's not some intergalactic council with a bunch of species evolved far beyond what humans are.
