I used to love formula 1 in the late 80s through 90s. I loved Team McLaren and my favorite drivers were Ayrton Senna (who doesn't) and Mika Hakkinen and I despise the Scuderia. I liked Mercedes and Hammy until they resembled Ferrari and Schumi. The sport will never be the same. I like LM GTE Pro and Am racing classes but that soon will be dead and LeMans Hypercar will take it's place and I think it'll be very interesting.

Athletics put in offer on fifth property. Some are cleared and ready to go. Others would require demolition before building (perhaps adding a year to timeline without new ball park). Sites are to the east and west of I15. Two sites publicly identified as not part of the process.

Final yes/no vote July 7 for Oakland.

So, I alluded to this in the GDT, but I'm on the verge of getting a promotion, which will have me covering the West Coast. I currently live in Atlanta so the Time Zone just doesn't make sense and the company is offering to help move us to the West side of the States.

Don't want Cali, Portland isn't the Portland I remember, so it's really Seattle, Reno/LV, or Phoenix. Talking with the wife, I think LV/Reno is the top so far.

Any places in Nevada for a family with a 4 year old daughter? It doesn't look like the public schools in Nevada are good, so I'm guessing kids go Private?

Don't need a big city...I live in North GA Mountains but just don't know too much about Nevada other than it's hot and a desert

Check out, so I'm looking at houses in Henderson and that appears to be a real nice area. It'd also be a plus having two hockey teams near me (Henderson and VGK).

Thoughts?

Nevada has lots of variations of climate. Lots of family friendly environments/locations.

There's high desert (brush). Some mountain valleys. Reno gets a fair amount of snow if you want to enjoy 4 seasons.

Stay away from the Strip/Downtown and Las Vegas valley pretty much feels like just about any other city/region of 2+ million. Amazon has one-day delivery options, Fresh delivery.

Decent internet connectivity options (and improving).

When I got here, I described Las Vegas as a big city with a small town heart.

I guess the question to ask is what do you want to do when you aren't working? Family outings (day, camping)? Bicycle/hiking? Museums/theater/culture? How far might you be interested in traveling to do that?

The valley boasts:

NFL Raiders. IFL Knight Hawks
NHL Golden Knights. AHL Silver Knights.
MiLB Aviators. (Possible landing spot for MLB Oakland Athletics with new stadium)
USL Lights. On the list for potential MLS expansion.
WNBA Aces. NBA Summer League (and probable destination for next NBA expansion/relocation, especially with new basketball resort being built)
NLL team coming soon.
NFR Rodeo. Bull riding.
NASCAR and other races at LVMS. Off road racing (Mint 400)
A number of national/international horse shows. Numerous college tournaments.

Entertainment options out the wazoo.
The Smith Center for Performing Arts - home to ballet theatre, orchestra, touring Broadway shows and a lot more.
Cirque du Soleil - six or more resident productions
Magic shows
Comedy.
Music (just about every genre you can think of and many big names have residencies/tour stops)

Natural beauty

Red Rock NV State Park
Valley of Fire
Mormon Fort
Springs Preserve
Mt Charleston/Kyle Canyon
Sloan Canyon
Lake Mead recreational area

Not too far from Death Valley NP, Grand Canyon NP.

The Reno/Carson City area is much smaller (under 1m), but great mountain stuff. (And Carson City is the state capital)

@LadyStanley

First off, thanks.

Secondly, I enjoy the seasons, but I can travel for that if I need to. Right now the wife (and daughter) and I, head up to Colorado/Utah/Quebec for skiing and snow, and then down to Florida for beaches.

Weather wise, the only thing I despise is humidity, which is what we have in abundance.

I'll searching for tickets to Vegas, and want to check out Henderson, as it looks like a nice area with good schools, and the fact they have an AHL team is super nice as I expect tickets for VGK are absurd.

Internet connectivity is vital for me, as I work from home and spend most of my days on video calls and running my own private home network. I can't imagine I'd have problems with it in the Vegas area.

I don't gamble, and the idea of a 'sin city' doesn't really appeal to me for THOSE reasons, but everyone I know that's been to Vegas in the past decade has said nothing but fantastic things and how it can be crazy, but it can also be a great and quiet place (outside of Vegas obviously)

@QMT no worry about humidity except during monsoon storms. Otherwise often high single digits.

Most locals do not go to Strip/casinos unless they work there, or have guests in town. (VGK does bring folks for games.)

In Henderson, check out Green Valley specifically. Henderson is geographically enormous and includes what I call "Hendertucky," very old homes in a community that doesn't fit the description of "Nice area with good schools."

Also worth looking at are Seven Hills and Coronado areas, Summerlin, and many people love Southern Highlands, though I'm not crazy about it.

Lady Stanley is right, there is absolutely no reason you need to go to the Strip unless you want to take in a sporting event, concert, or show or pay through the nose for some world class dining options. For most of us, the only difference between living in Vegas and living in Peoria is the brown hue of everything and the existence of video poker in the seven elevens and grocery stores. We go to work, go home, shop and eat in our local areas and once in awhile go to the tourist corridor for one of the aforementioned activities or because friends or family force us into tour guide roles.
