To young fans here and those who are lurking, don’t take this for granted, because it won’t last forever. It’s hard to put together a winning season (ask Seattle and Baltimore), let alone fifteen straight and 22 out 23.

Neither was Jeff Weaver, and we all know how he turned out
even in 2007 they were only 1GB from first in september before the lost like 8 in a row.

TLR made some very questionable moves during that stretch, and let’s not forget that Jocketty was at odds with the FO philosophy wise.

NL central race is essentially over. brewers are flat out playing bad baseball.

i dont think the cards can catch the mets/braves for #2 spot in NL. so stupid that a division winner in baseball could now be bounced in a short 3 game series. PHI or SD are really no legit threat to the cardinals if they play their game.

Well Flaherty was okay. Rest of the team no-showed. Boring one to attend. Tough one.

Bad managing tonight, stop overusing gallegos.

lineup needs to start doing the little things, hit and run can always help out during times like these.

Just 1 more. Why care about arbitrary round numbers? 1 more gives him sole possession of 4th place all-time. 700 still gives him 4th place all-time. If he lands on 698, people aren't going to be like, "ohhh, you were 2 short of mattering".
All sports/athletes celebrate those "arbitrary round numbers" because they're huge milestones. Of course he still had an amazing career if he doesn't hit another homer, but acting like reaching the next plateau doesn't matter is laughable.

I'm not saying the next plateau doesn't matter, I'm saying the next plateau is passing ARod. The plateua after that is passing Babe. I don't think 700 is a plateau. Measure yourself against others not arbitrary markers.

Starting July 1st, there isn't a single stretch of time where he has failed to hit at least 3 home runs in 20 games that he has played in. The longest it took him was 17 games (in that stretch he started 10 games and pinch hit in 7 games). Since the home run he hit on July 10th, his longest stretch without a home run is 6 games (in which he makes at least one appearance).

He's not going to play in all 21 remaining games, but he's going to be in the lineup a lot. He's going to be getting at least one plate appearance damn near every game and we have a big enough cushion that he'll stay in some games that he would have been lifted from a month or so ago. Barring injury, I'd be stunned if he doesn't exceed the 10 starts and 7 pinch hit opportunities he saw in his longest 'cold' stretch since July. Especially since we very well might be locked into our playoff seed entering the final 6 games against the Pirates.

He's not a lock to hit 3 more, but he doesn't need a 2-in-1-series effort to get it done. He just needs to keep doing what he's been doing for 2+ months now.
