If you don't like the experience, then don't go?

The idea that I'm less of a hockey fan than the moron sitting beside me who's knowledge of the team and the game is clearly based on EA Sports NHL 2013 because he is screaming his head off and I'm a quiet guy by nature is stupid. I'm a reserved guy, I don't make a lot of noise regardless of what I'm wearing at the game. Sometimes I have to go straight from work, so wear what wore to work -- a suit.

So if you're a vocal fan your knowledge of the game comes from EA sports games? Riiight. The suit doesn't make you a ****** fan, the generalization that the suits are there to push business agendas does. Not sure if that applies to you.

If you're post was directed at me I'll respond: I don't go to many games, the atmosphere sucks and they're too expensive, plain and simple. The only games I attend are the ones against the Habs with my Quebecois friends. Those are a good time.

No, I was specifically referring to the guy who was sitting next to me on opening night yelling things about players based on their EA sports ratings.. "Come on Liles!! You have an 88 in skating!". I should have made that clear.

No, I've never been to a game for any other reason then to watch a game. But I've gotten **** from other fans because I'm not loud and was wearing a suit.

So you don't go because you don't like it, good. I just don't like it when people whine about the atmosphere and then continue to go back.

Perhaps a lot of Toronto fans just want to watch the game? And cheer or boo when something happens that is worth cheering or booing. That's the way I have always watched sporting events.

And I don't think it's fair to implay that such fans are not real fans.

In fact, I always kind of assumed that the idiots who were scream all night even when nothing worth reacting to was happening were the ones who were not real fans and were just there to drink and yell and didn't really care about what was actually happening.

Already stated I won't be going to ACC again, road trips are far more entertaining.

I didn't say quiet means you aren't a fan, but **** you for calling someone a moron because they are loud and cheer. And double **** you for saying they get their knowledge from NHL 13 because they are lively and having fun while you read a novel, looking up once and a while to see if the period if over. Not everyone has to make noise, that is understandable, but when you have nearly 20,000 fans in a stadium and it is well known by fans, other teams, our coach and our players that ACC is a quiet place, there is an issue. I have never been to another NHL arena like it. How big of a fan you are =/= the noise you make, but when no one makes noise it does ruin the atmosphere.

As for the suit thing, well I just don't get it, if I know I am going to the game after work I bring a change of clothes. I get that you cannot always do it and sometimes a suit is needed, but it is well known it is done at ACC for status, the "look at me, I work on Bay St" mentality.

Anyways, ACC needs to step up their atmosphere, it is pathetic. Thank god it's only a 4 hour drive to Ottawa to hear some noise and see some passion.

Where exactly did anyone say it is real fan vs not real fan? It is about atmosphere and not who is the bigger fan. Go to any football game, soccer game, or NHL game in any other arena with a big name team and you hear nothing but noise and passion. Your fandom is not in question, but the arena atmosphere sure is.

1) That guy was a moron, there's morons is all walks of life. Has nothing to do with how loud or passionate he is.

2) Thats awesome to hear, no one should ever call anyone single person out for that. I will however stand up, swing my free scarf, wave my arms and try and get people going. and I WILL get pissed off when someone tells me to keep it down, they are trying to watch the game. If that's the case, enjoy your couch. A 20,000 seat arena is not a place to expect a quiet night. Plus one of the quiet fans sure was willing to turn around and scream at me for cheering loudly, but not willing to use that same voice to cheer for his team

3) I think that was already stated, thats what road trips are for.

I always like the Montreal Canadiens productions better than the Leafs. They seem to take things more seriously whereas the Leafs always go for this kitschy vibe, like the puckdrop from space, and Andy Frost makes the Toronto Maple Leafs home game seem like a Monster Truck Rally/strip club.

Agreed. I miss Paul Morris.

Our presentations are always very cheesy. Makes me worry about 2017.

Toronto fans have always been fairly quiet. Google 'Winfield Wants Noise' for a way back reference.

1) Totally agreed, my point was yelling louder than me doesn't make anyone more of a fan than me.

2) I'll never ask anyone to keep quiet, but I might politely ask someone not to stand up directly in front of me for the whole game. There a difference between cheering loudly and being a dick, I might get upset at the latter.

Goes both ways.

Sounds like you're a grown up like the majority of us.

People who are not cheering can also be a dick and bring down the night of those who are. i.e. the guy who yelled at use for cheering.

I agree.. I didn't say anything about the amount someone cheers being an indication of their level of dickishness, just that cheering loudly doesn't make anyone more of a fan than me. That's all, all other conclusions you are drawing about my opinion from my posts aren't true.

I've had Season Tickets since '99 and never once heard anyone tell someone to stop cheering.

I have said that several times in this thread if you were reading my posts.

Well I have had it happen to me, know a few others who have had the same thing, and there are others in this thread who have experienced it. Just because YOU haven't seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I mean, I've never seen a midget, dressed like a clown, juggling 5 rubber chickens, while standing on the back of a shetland pony, but I am sure it has happened.

I haven't been reading your posts, I didn't address you with my initial post. For some reason you responded like I was and started cursing at me for saying things I never said.

You didn't address anyone, you did say some pretty dumb things and I don't take back my response, anyone to say that would be met with the same thing.

But beyond that like it has been said so very many times noise level =/= level of fandom, but it does create atmosphere. Why do you think playoff games are so good? Beyond the players going harder, the arena is buzzing and there is an incredible and loud atmosphere. There a reason Rock and TFC games are an absolute blast to go to, and it goes beyond the product on the grass.

You assumed I was generalizing and went off on a rant.

I was referring to one specific person, one that I was sitting next to at the opener. The things I said about him were true, he was literally yelling out EA Sports ratings and saying all kinds of dumb things.

I really don't know why we are arguing, we agree.
