I don't know why you guys are being so negative, I thought it was pretty cool but I'm a sucker for opening ceremonies involving team history, cheers for our boys and historic Leafs players.

Leaf fans and hockey fans in general will whine about anything.

That could be true. In the arena it was great and one of only 3 times (Opening ceremony, Orr fight, Kadri goal) people in the crowd made noise. The only thing embarrassing last night was the fans and their pathetic cheering. I left with no voice, after the final horn, many others left with 5 minutes left and hadn't made a sound all game. I was standing, yelling and cheering. People just looked at me like I was crazy. It felt like a 20,000 person library. Only sounds I heard were a couple guys the next section over trying to do the game thing!.

Do you realize that there are others here who were at the game and can testify that you're full of ****?

How exactly am I full of ****? I was there,. it was loud a couple times, but for the most part it was very sad. I defend the leafs left right and center. I defend our fans as often as I can, but the home crowd at ACC is just garbage. There is a reason I go to games in Buffalo, Ottawa and Montreal. The fans who make the trip for those make noise and they do it all game. Last night we had people tell us to not be so loud (when cheering and trying to get a go leafs go chant started). I was very disappointed in the crowd for the most part, but the rest was top notch.

So you can testify all you want, but it was a quite crowd.

Also what part would be the ****? Me watching people leave with 5 minutes left? I didn't say everyone, but a surprising number. Or the fact it was quiet? You would think 20,000 people with scarfs would be swinging them around to try and create some atmosphere, but nope, not in ACC. Some of the best cheers came from things being played on the screen... pathetic.

Last night is the last time I pay to see a Leaf game in ACC, its worth the extra money to go out of town and get a real experience.

Wasn't the game free? I heard the announcers talking about free admission. I could be mistaken correct me if I'm wrong.

I seriously doubt anyone would tell someone at a hockey game not to be so loud. someone needs some attention maybe?

Yes and no. If you got tickets off stubhub (like I did) then you had to pay, in my case $130 a pop for first row purples. But they gave all season ticket holders the game free, plus at least 1000 free tickets, but I heard reports that it was actually 2-3000 free tickets.

They did one really cool thing, gave a lady her seasons tickets for free, for the entire season. I thought that was awesome.

Trust me, we were shocked! I don't expect everyone to jump out of their seats screaming all game, but it was like a morgue at some points. I sit in the 300's because I assume they will be more lively, but that has not been the case the past few games i've been to at ACC.

I was just telling a girl at work about it, apparently it happened to her boyfriend last year too.

That is what going to a Leafs game is like. It's probably got a little to do with why the Team's home record is so abysmal. We've seen how fans can act as a "6th man" in Winnipeg, not like that in Toronto at all. In Toronto the atmosphere and building is way to accommodating.

Whats crazy is before the game in Real Sports it was great, walking over people were happy and having fun, in the concourse pre-game was great. The opening ceremony was top notch in the arena, and post game in RS was awesome. But when those butts hit the seats, a switch is turned.

Like I said, go to out of town games if you want a great atmosphere, go to ACC if you want convenience and a nice place to read a book.

They turn down audience mics so people at home can hear announcers etc better then turn up commercials as well. True story. The crowd is never as quiet at games as fans watching at home seem to think.

By what standard? I've been to plenty of Leafs games and they're always dead quiet. We have the softest fans in the league. (at least compared to other cities I've been to)

The Leafs cannot afford to lose 2+ games back-to-back this year; they should win this one. It will not be easy.

Alcohol is too expensive at the ACC; people are excited at first; as they were pre-drinking.

I think you mean "7th man"; each team has 6 men on the ice at even strength. ;)

I'm not surprised; I had the same experience last year. We were the only ones cheering in our area (again; ****** seats); surrounding "fans" gave us dirty looks.

The ACC experience is beyond brutal.

What did you guys think?

I liked it - thought it was equal parts classy and basic.

A bit embarrassed by the reaction (or lack thereof) that Commander Hadfield got, and just in general how quiet the place was.

Also - was it just me, or did Andy Frost sound incredibly subdued and flat ? Has the magic just gone from his voice or something??

Andy Frost knows like most observant people do that along with an opening ceremony comes a sub-par game from the home team.

Either do them for the fans before warm up, or not at all.

WIth all the ceremonies we do it might cost us a playoff spot.

The real fans can't afford to go anymore.

I was at MLG when a packed house got up on it's feet yelling "Bull...." at the referee. (only one on the ice then)

The final score was 8-7. THe place was crazy.

Now people wear suits more expensive than season tickets where back then. Can't get excited, what would the Client/boss/etc. think?

And at $10 a beer, who can afford to get "excited"?

It really is sad, saw so many suits in the 300's :(

As for the 2nd part, I don't get that attitude by people. When I go with work or a client, I still cheer. Nothing wrong with having fun and showing personality. If only everyone felt this way.

I've never had a bad experience at the ACC. It's always been lively for the most part (once the team was showered with boos before making up a 3 goal deficit to come back and win the game). I saw Winnipeg's home opener and I can tell you that the opposing team shut them up quite good with their team losing. Montreal's crowd wasn't anything to write home about either with the Leafs shutting up the crowd up until the 14th minute mark of the 3rd period. There's only so much a crowd will take before they sit on their hands and simply wait for their team to give them something to cheer about. The ACC was rocking against the Sabres two years ago when the Leafs needed the win to keep their playoff hopes alive and move within 4 points of a playoff spot. The atmosphere was incredible. I remember watching the Leafs comeback from a 4-1 deficit against Nashville - crowd was awesome. And you know what, there were plenty of people wearing suits in those crowds.

I wasn't at the home opener but after the Leafs finally scored, the crowd came alive and seemed to spend a good portion of the remainder of the game standing up and cheering the team up to get that tying goal in the last minute of the game.

And I'm tired of people referencing the 'suits'. What you wear to a game doesn't determine the kind of fan you are in the stands. I've cheered and chanted alongside several guys in their 'suits'. Get off the ignorant generalizations.

When I sit in the purples the games are livelier. The games I've sat in the lower bowl I've had the same experience as Kessely, I had folks turn around and give me cut eye for making noise. Sorry, I don't like Chris Neil so I'll heckle the guy all I want if spend $170 for seats. All-in-all it's kinda like a country club atmosphere down there with people whispering into each others ears and playing with their blackberries focusing on what they're going to eat next.

I like what they do in Soccer stadiums in Europe, there are designated areas for families, fanatics, and opposing team's fans. If you go to a match expecting to sit on your hands and wind up with the fanatics they'll make you stand up and chant. You got guys banging on drums trying to rile everyone up etc.
