And if you asked the Barrie GM about the cost of Barlow, he would say too much.
Somehow prices keep going up. All of Wakley, Leenders, Barlow, Rehkopf could be considered over pays.
Could just be the way the Market is moving these days. What was once considered overpaying could now just be the norm.

DeGray said he wanted the same return Peterborough got for McTavish in 2022 (2 players, 6 picks) and that's exactly what he got.

You are either a player or a pretender
I think you can be a player without badly overspending and limiting your teams “win window”

You can’t just make things up lol. Barrie made multiple offers for Barlow, they were just told no because they didn’t have the pieces needed because OS didn’t like Moses and that’s all Barrie has player wise until Jan 1.

And not really can you say the others were overpays because cost goes on precedent and in the past all of Barlow, Rehkopf and Leenders type Team Canada World Junior players have gone for much more than what they went for this year, and that’s usually for half a season of them whereas Oshawa/Brampton got them for a full season (Leenders for 2 full years)

Are you now saying Barrie did not overpay because Moses is not good and the picks just 4th, 5th? And saying Barrie GM thought too much was asked for Barlow as evidenced by making multiple offers that OS did not like?

Sounds like Isaac Gravelle will get his 1st OHL start tonight in the road in Sarnia.

I think every top team will be in for Konnor Smith and I don't think he'll be cheap. He's exactly what a team wanting to go deep will be looking to add. I don't care how deep you think your D is. He's a monster, he's a leader, he's tough and he can play. He has Mem Cup experience. I'm guessing it will cost your 1st round '08 plus. Could be wrong, Oshawa was able to get Punnett last year for another overager but whoever gets him will be able to slot him in a top 4.

The plus minus stat has always been a questionable measure of productivity and capability.
Definitely. But when you’re a rookie getting a 9 game look, you’ll take any positive stats you can haha. Could bad negative games in a row and the coach starts to wonder why it’s always you on the ice when the other team scores..

A good coach should know a good player when they see one. And when a coach sees a player that’s not ready for the NHL, they send them back to their junior team.

He will definitely be highly sought after. Don't see him going for an '08 first rounder though when full seasons of Rehkopf, Barlow, Leenders, Wakely, Bertucci have netted a combined total of 0 '08 1st rounders. Brantford has a million picks and a brutal D core, they should be alllllll over Konnor Smith

Unless the team has 5 of their top 9 forwards out, then they keep the player until 9 games hit and then sends him back to their junior team.... lol

Good point but they obviously all went early when 08's can't be traded unless its with a wink wink get you later. It will be interesting to see how far teams that may not have a lot of picks will go at deadline.

And a coach worth their salt, isn’t going to judge a player on one game

Yeah that's the thing. If Brantford gets him, they'll likely just give a bunch of picks. If Barrie gets him (not that they would because they have D) they'd likely have to give their 08 because they don't have the picks. Depends on the team

Obviously... They already know what they were doing with Ritchie before the season even started. It can only be changed by him drastically over or under performing their expectations for that to change their mind

Brantford’s window is next year. They may jump on a player like Mews if he becomes available because he’s an ‘06 and returns next year. I dont’ see a reason why they would waste assets on this year unless the player is an 18 year old OR a 19 year old that is 99% sure to return as an OA.

Well for starters they lose Lardis, Thomas, Lavoie, potentially brown, one of moore, Roberts, Nelson, crombie, (Nelson is obvious one for me). Also jiricek on the back end may come I forget if that’s a rumour or confirmed.

They have a bunch of talented guys on their roster this year and a crap ton of picks. If they went out and got 2 good d men and a good 3rd line guy they’d be a whole lot better.

Nick Lardis should be a 100point guy this year if healthy and doesn’t miss too many games from the team Canada camp(don’t think he makes it but I believe he gets invited)

Been pretty suprised with the gens the past few games. Thought once sennecke came back they’d start to steamroll some guys along with Barlow.

They’ve publicly stated that they are building for a run next year. They said this last year in round one of the playoffs against Ottawa.

They are not going to go out in the face of this market and build this year. If they do, they will need three D-Man before they acquire one forward.

I agree with gens updates about Mews then. Would make literally perfect sense for them. They need the defence this year and next. And when some of these guys are gone next year he is great at creating offence. Wonder if they trade a crap ton of picks to Ottawa or if Ottawa would want o’donnell

To be perfectly clear, I am not suggesting Ottawa woudl entertain trading Mews. My overall point would be if they acquire any players, they will be two year players. Depending on their projected OA situation next year, there is a possibility they would acquire a 19 year old that would project to return as an elite OA.

I think it would be more likely they trade a player like Lardis in a package for a player like JVV who would help fill a gap this year while contributing at a higher level next year. Or, they would look at two part deals where they trade Lardis, take the assets received form that trade and flip them for an 18 year old “like” Mews.

Brantford already has Crombie, Roberts and Moore coming back next year don’t think they trade any but if they do maybe Roberts. I think they need 18 year olds turning 19 particularly on d, on teams that won’t be contenders next year. I think mews fits this perfectly though. I’d say christoforo could be a good one too but I think Windsor will be going all in next year in belchetz dy and greentrees dy+2(if he doesn’t make NHL)
