At the time of the trade, ‘feel there is a reasonable chance we get him signed’
My guess is 55/45 signed. Many nhl round 2-3 picks get red-shirted as freshman. If he really is a student, the Fronts can get him a tour of Queens while dangling a gold education package.

Why Red Shirt an NHL Prospect as a Freshman? I don’t understand the logic behind that. If the player is an NHL prospect, they cover his scholarship so $$$$ is committed for not playing year one. Then they play year two as a true freshman and potentially leave and sign an NHL contract. To me, it would make more sense getting two full year instead of a year and a bit depending ont he rules for number of games the red shirt can play.

What’s the angle for the schools? Any idea?

But if you go back to the start of the season as your measuring stick, Ottawa is the biggest underdog! Cinderella Story!

The Petes were supposed to run through the East Division. Ottawa IS THE UNDERDOG!
Lead the division, run with it is a bit of stretch
I thought the Gens were supposed to be 10th?!

Idk, but 35-40 player practice roster doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch.
What did Boucher & Ertel play; 6-9 games with 4-5 min TOI? Players are 18-24?

Many of the preseason predictions has the Petes winning the division with the other four East division teams finishing 6-10! GU was one of them.

The red shirts have restrictions. Technically the first of their four years of athletic eligibility start in year 2.

There are two main reasons to Red Shirt a freshman. First, the team is stacked and the rookie wouldn’t get much ice. Red shirt them so you can have them practise with the team and dress a few games and then have them there following four years. Second, the player simply isn’t ready but they have potential so it makes sense to not pull the scholarship. Most scholarships require the player to “make the team.” If a player comes in and isn’t prepared or competent, they can be sent packing. Scholarship pulled. Instead of pulling the scholarship, they give them another year of development etc.

Winning a playoff game and performing well in 2 others is a successful season IMO!

Oshawa is rebuilding almost from scratch! I would have been very happy if Ottawa had managed to pull out a playoff win last year…
I mean... There's a reason there are no actual Oshawa fans posting in this thread

Oshawa is going to have just about the worst possible season they could have here. The one playoff win can sort of be viewed as a highlight, I guess, but everyone including Gens Updates in tweets throughout the year, wanted them to miss the playoffs and get a shot at the lottery.

To make the playoffs, just to get bounced decisively in round one, after trading off your best players without getting an 05/06 born player back, which in turn drained the entertainment value in an effort try to get that higher pick, which you failed at...

The future is still bright but I have a hard time buying this as a successful season by any measure other than the awesome development and impact of the 2006 born players.

It is their turn for the redevelopment/sell off year. It is better if teams can not bottom out to rebuild but someone has to finish at the bottom.

If they had missed the playoffs, they’d have picked 4th. They now pick 6th. It cost them two spots int he draft. Withthe way the draft is someone rigged and negotiated, those two spots wouldn’t really cost the Generals a hell of a lot.

Don’t under estimate playoff experience. The Petes just swept Sudbury. The difference between the two teams was in part because the Petes are a more experienced team but another factor was the fact that most of the Peterborough players have playoff experience. Most of the players they traded for have a lot of playoff experience and the Petes players from last year had the experience from the Hamilton series where as most of the Wolves players have never played in a playoff game.

Ritchie had a season that should make him a first rounder. Roobroeck and Oster (found their future stater) went from nothings to potential NHL picks this year. Two 06 first rounder had great season (Sennecke led all 06s in points) and could both be first rounders next year. Got playoff experience for their loaded young core who will be good next year and possibly the favorite the year after.

In German Spitfires mock they get Roobroeck at 6 who they very well could have picked at 1 anyway (which they only would have had a 10% chance of getting and the guy Gens fans wanted all season).

A guy like Harrison never fetches a 1st or 2nd year stud. Most teams would rather the picks anyway so they can get the 05/06 stud of choice when they are going for it and you know the guys still in the league. Got a good return for an OA too.

If the Gens really thought missing the playoffs was what was best for the team they woulda sat a bunch of guy in their last few years. I guess you could say it was a perfect year for the start of a rebuild.

Honestly cant believe how confidently you are taking about the draft when you clearly know so little about it.

Exactly. Guys like Ritchie, Butler and Gangier won them the game last night... you know the guys with playoff experience.

Sounds like you guys steamrolled Sudbury pretty hard based on the highlights. Surprised North Bay is having problems TBH and Barrie being stood up by Hamilton...

Can we get a rebate on the Harrison trade? lol, kidding of course but he looked like someone who can't wait to be in the AHL. Went completely invisible for multiple games at a time in his entire time here.

Loos like he lead your team in playoff points. Id be more worried about what you gave up for Wright lol. Or Maggio shitting the bed in the playoffs.. I guess you guys have a lot of things to worry about..

That was my concern about Wright. I was thinking he really didn’t want to come back tot he OHL and would probably float around a lot and wouldnt’ care if he didn’t win because it would put him in the AHL/NHL sooner. I’m sure he’d feather play AHL playoffs vs OHL playoffs.

I wasn’t thinking about that for Harrison though.

Didn't the Kraken just clinch a playoff berth? It wouldn't be the first time that the lure of the bigs affected a Junior player's performance.

Kids live in the moment in junior hockey. They get drafted to the OHL and continue to craft their skills on hoping it to make the NHL. They're pretty in content in their first year or so but once they sign that lucrative contract their real only focus is the getting to the show at that point. I mean sure every kid wants to win the Memorial Cup and add that to their resume but it pales in comparison to making it to the NHL....

Ok so this is going as expected and as was expected almost from the beginning of the season. I’m happy the future is bright and hopefully the boys can get 1 more win to extend the series and not leave the last home game memory of a lopsided loss.
