The Leafs need a strong runway to get into the playoffs and not fall ass backwards into the Tampa matchup, then hope to flip on the playoff switch they've never proven to have. But those are the breaks and the way the team has been sleep walking through Western Canada, it's hard to feel sympathetic if they face adversity down the stretch.

I don't disagree with this in principle ideally we see the team start to tighten the systems up a bit as we get closer to April but also think the top teams in the Atlantic are all going to be sleepwalking for majority of the remainder of the season due to the low stakes involved at this point.

The outcome of the rest of the season has pretty much no impact on the leafs playoff outcome?

No man. The Leafs playoff outcome has everything to do with how the regular season ends.

Obviously they are going to play Tampa, but you seriously don't think it matters who is injured, what d pairs have developed chemistry, what forward combos are clicking, or what keeper is doing what come game #1 of the playoffs all because everyone knows that they're playing Tampa?

We can all say 'none of it matters other than how they play in game 1 of of the playoffs' and that is still true but given the gravity of the events of the past few weeks, the opportunity that lays ahead, and the title of the thread, it is silly to think that these next few weeks aren't of tantamount importance, no?

Obviously things like injuries are going to matter - but there's not much controlling for that outside of hoping luck is on our side. Chemistry and finalizing lines also matter too - but that will be built gradually as the guys get to know each other and the coaches.

But can't say I agree with describing it as "of tantamount importance" It's incredibly low stakes stuff/boring hockey until we get to the last couple weeks heading into the playoffs when Keefe will start to tighten stuff up.

He’ll probably be out 3/4 weeks. Come back with a little over a week or so left in the regular season. He’ll be ready to go come playoffs.

So y'all can call me a bad source or w.e if you want. But I got close sources that tell me he's getting surgery this upcoming week on his hand.
i'll play along , how long does your ''close sources'' say he's out ?

Tavares had a broken finger on a similar play in 2019. Looks like got hurt October 16 vs Washington and was back vs LA November 5. So maybe that's our best case scenario, 2.5 weeks.

But obviously it will depend on the nature of the break.

I think ROR is going to be here for the next 5-6 years, and back in the lineup in time for a couple of tune up games with Knies before we go on our epic run of runs (which for us is more than 7 games)

They don't know as of yet - we'll find out. Just know he's scheduled for surgery on Wednesday I believe

Man will ufa be afraid to be traded here at deadline

Yeah I mean if I'm wrong I won't post again, but I have no reason to lie. Guess I'll just keep info to myself from now on

Yeah I hope he's here for a long time.

I had a broken finger sustained from a rugby game when my own teammate stepped on it.

It was broken and it took 4-5 weeks to heal. I think with what Leafs medical staff resources, ROR should be back before that.

My biggest fear when we traded for him was that Dubas or the next GM would re-sign him for 5 plus yrs .

Probably not the same, but last year in the playoffs, Kadri underwent surgery for a broken thumb on June 6 after game 3 against the oilers. He came back June 23, game 4 of the cup finals.

So perhaps during the break before the playoffs start is when he'll return.

The pin in the finger, while surgery, can allow you to start moving the finger right away and the stress of rehab makes the bone heal quicker. But he won't be able to grip and rip til hard callus is formed. 3-4 weeks. I am not a doctor.

Not a confirmed source but possible…

He said he was at YYZ and mentioned broken finger - 3-4 weeks

Again - not sure if this is true. From what I'm told he's having surgery this week at toronto western (prob cause Wickenheiser is a resident here). We'll see if I'm right tomorrow and I'll gladly eat crow if wrong

I told father he's VERY upset. Keeps saying "it's Ballard! It's Ballard!"

I shouldn't have told him.

I'm sure ROR can recover fast though he's tough!!
:handclap:
