What about a Florida Panthers center?

Barkov/Trocheck/Bjugstad are all signed for a while, but could a wing (or 2) + a D-Man prospect tempt them?

I figure they'd be least willing to deal Barkov, most willing to deal Bjugstad, which makes me lean towards Trocheck.

They love Trochek and won't trade him.

They are down, very down on the guys they extended or signed to long term deals last year that all mailed it in last year.

That leads me to believe that Bjugstad may be available for the right price. He hasn't lived up to that contract at all.

Rangers were very big on Bjugstad in the 2010 draft and were hoping to get him with the pick they took Thomas on.

Actually they reached for Thomas because the two Minny boys they valued highly went before the pick. Tricky Nicky was one of them. Brock Nelson the other.

FLA will be going back to a system that supports their goaltending. The corsi system (IE Swarm Defense) favored by the analytics guys backfired on them (& EDM under Eakins & Noel in WPG).

The goalies ended up facing slot shot after slot shot. They are looking to move back to the more structured system where Luongo and Reimer have to concern themselves about half the ice, while the D takeaway the other side instead of pressuring the puck carrier.

Demers doesn't fit that, that's why they've been trying to move him.

Marc Staal does though.

I wanted to stay away from Bjugstad, but if Staal+ can land him, that's a no brainer. What's going on with Bjugstad? This is a two year slide, and last year was particularly ugly.

Minneosta just got Tyler Ennis in the Scandella deal, so he'll be a depth center option for them. Tyler Johnson is currently up for a new contract, coming off a $3.33M AAV. He's going to turn 27 at the end of the month, but he's an interesting option. I'd be hesitant trading for him though.

I'd rather sign Grigorenko or see if Calgary would give up Sam Bennett. I know the Florida situation has been beaten to death, but maybe we can fleece Tallon.

If we go for a good 3C with upside then JTM should be a good main piece to get that.

It makes sense but Miller is our emergency center. Since we also lost Lindberg keeping JTM became more imperative. On a trade deck Nash, Holden, Vesey before Miller.

Best option for now would be to give Miller another shot at being 2nd or 3rd line Center. But if the difference between him being a Center or a Wing also turns out to be the difference between him scoring 50 and 70 pts next season, then it may be worth it to trade a wing and bring in a Center. Ultimately it would benefit us to have a 3rd line Center who can score between 40-50 pts and win faceoffs, and that's assuming both Zibby and Hayes will stay healthy and perform well as the top two Cs. Not too worried about the 4th C, I think Boo or Andersson will turn out to be fine for the role as rookies.

Also concur with the Grigorenko idea - kid is still so young and talented, only ever played for POS teams in horrendous situations. If he comes here and suddenly blossoms, that's a huge coup for us. Worth a shot, but we have to do it early in the season.

We have reclamation projects each year. Pouliot, Stalberg, Grabner etc

He plays both Center and Wing.

Huh, interesting. For the life of me, I literally can't remember him being a center, but I trust you. I'm guessing he slotted in at C this year when the Panthers were hit with a ton of injuries?

Yea he played 3C a good bit the middle of this year.

Depends on what it will cost. Hayes+Graves? I wouldn't mind that.

If any of our younger roster players or a 1st are involved, I rather just go with Miller

That was my ideal trade. But if Joe's appetite isn't wet by that, I always thought we could swing a 3 way trade and look for a team that could use a cheap young center (and yes there should be plenty of those teams) who might have a D man to ship off. Thoughts?

The Rangers don't match up with the Avs. And, I find it highly unlikely GMJG is going to part with a #1 pick, especially from next year's draft.
