Am I the only one who thinks that Lindholm could eventually be the best player on this team? he's big, strong, great release, and is a great passer. solid at the dot and above average defensively. Thoughts??

Once he starts using his great release to do something other than *just* miss the net to the far side, he has a chance to be special. But the bones are definitely there for a first-liner. And he started about 45 days sooner than he usually starts his scoring, so we may be on to something.

I promise I'm not going to be a dick about this all season, but Hanifin was noticeably protected in the third period. I know Fleury got at least one shift with Pesce in the third. I doubt if Hanifin got a single d-zone start in the third. IMO, Hanifin's spot in the top-4 isn't secure at the moment. How can it be.

Anyhow, very loose both ways, but looking at the scores around the league, maybe this is the way things are going to be. It's fun watching all the coach's heads collectively explode talking about 8-5 games.
TVR was also out for a good period in the 3rd with... I dunno, probably concussion protocol after what happened there. So that explains some of the line juggling.

But yeah, Hanifin, as good as his offensive game is starting to look really looked off defensively tonight. We'll see what happens, he looked a LOT more comfortable when paired with Faulk IMHO.

I mean, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Slavin and Pesce/Faulk and Hanifin worked last year, there was no need to break the pairings up. If chemistry is a thing in hockey, the longer they play with someone they’re familiar with, the better off they (and the team) will be.

Feels good to win in a shootout, looks like Darling could make a huge difference there. I'd call that ugly or gutsy but they pulled it out and that's the important part.

Darlings stats aren't great but I thought he was everything we need him to be. He got hung out to dry too often tonight, gotta tighten that up. Everyone has already chimed in about Hanifin, but yeah. I think he looks a lot more assertive with the puck which is good. His awareness without it though was ugly. That good of a skater shouldn't get beat so often.

Fleury and Kuokkanen both looked solid and not out of place. I'm impressed with Fleury's decision making, and his point shot is a solid addition.

Aho and Lindholm looked really good together. I'd try to keep them together with Rask for a bit, partially because I think TT plays a lot more effectively when he's with Staal. Skinner needs to shoot, tried getting cute and led to too many turnovers. But he'll figure it out.

All in all there's things to work on, but putting up over 40 shots and getting 2 points is a lot better season opener than we've seen recently.

When Lindholm went on his tear last season I was starting to think this way. He's gonna have competition with Skinner & Aho as best offensive player. But when he was a prospect he'd get comparisons of Nicklas Backstorm, Lindholm is honestly starting to remind me of him a bit.

Hanifin and a 2nd for Duchene right now, I'd take it and run.

With Fleury playing a solid, simple game, I'm inclined to agree. I don't think we'd lose all that much honestly moving Fleury into the 2nd pair and bringing up a Carrick or Bean to play with TVR on the third.

And yes, Lindholm was fantastic tonight. Such a good defensive presence throughout the game and looks like he's playing with a lot of confidence. IMO he's turning into a mini-Jordan Staal.

I was also super impressed with Kook. He looked like he knew exactly what he was doing. Reminds me of Aho early last season where he was doing all the little things but the puck wasn't "coming to him" i.e. he was waiting for something to happen instead of going after it. Once he gets a little more confidence he's going to be a good one.

How did Kuokkanen look?

Very solid. As I said above, he reminded me of how Aho played early last season. He looks very much like he belongs. I'm thinking he sticks - or if they do send him down to Charlotte he'll won't be there for very long before he comes back. Already plays a more complete game than anybody else they might call up.

That is great to hear, thanks for the report

Lindholm = Post-Prime Zetterberg.

There are similarities in nationality, situational versatility and goal scoring/playmaking imbalance. I find them to be stylistically similar, as well; Lindholm reminds me so much of Zetterberg along the walls and in the corners in the offensive zone. You wouldn’t think players with that type of on-paper size would be as strong as they are. I guess their frames are so compact that they’re able to generate the necessary leverage to be that type of physical presence that's able to own the puck down low.

Fellas, I don't go often as this is my first game since March 2015, but this was easily the most fun I've had since the Atlanta in early 2009 where Matt Cullen scored 3 minutes in and Kari Lethonen stood on his head the rest of the night.

Don't get me wrong, I was pissed about that last Minnesota goal, but winning in the end damn sure made up for it.

Let's hope this continues, the winning that is, not the bullshit calls.

Man, was it great to be in-house for this one tonight. The electricity in the crowd felt like the old days. Indeed, this is gonna be a fun season...

Also I can confirm that parking at the office building on the corner of Blue Ridge/Westchase is still the truth. Save yourself $20, get some exercise with a bit of a walk... you can't go wrong.

Finally caught up on the game and...

Ohhh myyy those Aho passes were so great. Definitely got some magic with the puck on his stick.

Lindholm looked confident and aggressive. Creating chances. Good to see him looking like that and getting rewarded early in the season, hope he keeps it up.
