I think he probably did, but I think he could have gotten pretty bad before that ended. And I shudder to think if they still had the last two years of his deal and no Stamkos.

I’m a Toyota guy, but man those 70s Toyota’s weren’t the coolest or nicest looking of cars. It wouldn’t be my car of choice for the 1970s decade, that’s for sure. Surely not in 2024.
Gibson is no-count. He’s been that way since Ray Shero and John Hynes were still tbe top dogs here.
And he seems to get worse every year. Color me shocked a goalie not into his 30s is getting worse?
I’m making 30s sound so old, but 31 (what he’ll be this offseason) is old for an athlete who had his last good season at age 25.
His numbers were above water on the season probably until tonight. They’ve been on a downward trend since the Ducks 9-6 start and regressing to the mean. It was as predictable at the sun rising in the east and setting in the west that he would be underwater before season’s end.

Gibson is basically Cory 2.0, kinda ironic they came from the same country. Identical arcs of being behind a very good starter when the team was competing. In Gibson's case, he eventually got the role he wanted with the same team but Cory was traded here for it. Great run at the beginning and then teetered off as the team began to suck and then injuries fully derailed them

It’s a great comparable and one I’ve been using for a couple of years. Probably ever since Gibson had almost identical 21-22 season to Schneider’s 17-18 season, which looked to be a bounce back after a down year from Schneider before he cratered in his last 10 games and regressed to the mean of the season before. Gibson was on two straight down years and looked to be bouncing back, before cratering his last I forget how many games it was. I looked it up and discussed it not too long ago.
This also happened to Gibson when he was considerably younger. Cory Schneider just finished his last good season he would ever have in the league when he was the age Gibson is right now. Gibson’s last good season came at the age Cory Schneider was when he was in his second season in the league.
