I'd like to think so, but I feel like they'll pull it out.

I think they'll SWEEP the Caps. In fact, I think the Caps are getting SWEPT by whoever they play, if they make it in. I hope they don't. They're a drag to watch and a disgrace of a playoff team. Ovechkin is the only thing that will draw viewers.

Maybe the Caps win a game?

Either way, I think the Caps and Red Wings are the two biggest pretenders in the East that are in or close to a playoff spot (the Flyers are done) right now, so I'll be happy if neither of those two sacks of shit get in.

I'm fine with the way it is right now. Carolina passing the Rangers would be sweet.

In terms of first round matchups, I think Tampa could beat the Rangers but that’s about it.

The issue with NYR right now is that they're losing home ice + limping in. Any R1 matchup where they barely sneak in and getting say a heavy Isles team that always plays them well or a Pens team that demolishes them 5v5 is just gonna have them limp into a Carolina series similar to us last year. It's a lose/lose for them if they don't sneak points here v Isles today

The Islanders or Pens will take them to at least 6 which will have them rail roaded for a series v Carolina

I think the Pens or Islanders could beat them, I just wouldn't pick them to.

I think the pretender Red Wings or Caps would be out in 4 or 5 max by them.

Ehh, I don't really consider Winnipeg much of a cup contender. I mean, I guess they are more than someone like Nashville for sure. That's not to say that I can't see them offing Colorado. Winnipeg wins the goalie matchup pretty handily over one hit wonder Georgiev. Georgiev could wind up getting Colorado FLUSHED quickly. Or he could turn it around and they could go on a run. Or he could not turn it around, but they still go on a run in spite of him like they did with the Kuemper/Francouz combo in 2022.

Vegas may be cup contender on merit, but they've been massively underwhelming for the better part of the season.

Yeah while the other bracket Nashville would be second favorite behind Edmonton for me lol
 
I remember at least one main board critter last year who was an Avs fan pounding their chest over the Rangers trading the wrong goalie, because Georgiev had a really good season. A really good season behind the same team that made another goalie that literally had two bad knees and two bad hips who was also playing more than passably.

This year they've gotten Rangers Georgiev. The same Georgiev that had a mediocre season behind the same team that Shesterkin looked like every deity combined into one.

Georgiev hasn't had a horrific season by any means. He's got a +4.23 GSAx on evolving hockey and a +7.9 GSAx and a +0.133 GSAx per 60 on moneypuck. His expected save percentage on moneypuck this year is actually identical to Vitek's this year (.897%), but unlike Vitek he's exceeded that by a couple of points.

Now I don't even know if he played today or not, I haven't even looked. I'm gonna assume he did play at least part of that blowout today. So these stats probably aren't updated to account for today's game.

If they go out in round one this year I just wonder if it won't be so shocking like when it happened last year.

They've since taken the 2 goal lead back.

Yeah, I know, I say this about every goalie, but I am a flat out atheist when it comes to Nedeljkovic. I don't think he's good. I don't buy him. I don't think it's a wise idea to try and squeeze a run out of him. I think they're better off with Jarry, who has his faults. They should go back to Jarry next game.

I think the little man is in the net for this game, isn't he? I'm not paying a ton of attention to it.

Yes, but Pittsburgh losing is good for our coaching search

Anyways ENG makes it 6-3. Penguins are on life support.
